I recommended one of these for a friend of mine who suffers from terrible facial pain. It works.

Sorry, I'm here. Yes, it was recommended to me by a lovely man in Holland and Barrett for my breathlessness and sometimes it seems to relieve it a bit and other times it doesn't seem to make any difference and I have to keep up with my inhalers or just sitting back down to get my breath back.

So if anyone else has used them, please let me know how they have gone on for you, I need some hope to be getting better from this terrible feeling of not being able to breathe properly. smile

rubylady sorry don't mean to interfere but have you seen the doctor about your breathlessness? I am asthmatic so know how upsetting it is when you feel you can't breathe properly. Don't know anything about the salt pipe but hope you feel better soon smile

If it's allergy related, as mine is, then gargling with salt water is extremely effective, heaven only knows why. Try that first? You just put a couple of tsps. of salt in a mug, dissolve in boiling water, find a lid to put over the mug and have a gargle every few hours. It's effective, and acts very quickly. You should really notice a difference after a day, if it is going to work for you.

I now worry about how much salt my body is taking in instead, though. hmm

Crafting It's fine, you are not interfering. Yes, I told my doctors at my former practice over 16 months ago. They didn't even give me an inhaler until I went to my new doctors in November last year and they give me inhaler and in January I had two courses of antibiotics too. Recently I had another course of antibiotics and steriods but they seemed to make it worse. I really struggled to get to the precinct in our town to go to Holland and Barrett for the salt pipe. I take Simvastatin and wondered if this has anything to do with it and so am taking myself off it for a while and seeing how I go on. It's not knowing what is causing it that is the problem and just being thrown drugs at it because doctors are encouraged by the drug companies to use them, is not my way of doing things. I like to know the cause and then treat, not treat the symptoms without knowing what is causing the illness. It must be the nurse in me, I suppose. smile

jane I will try that, thank you. It's going for a quality of life, not quantity. It's no use to me being around for the next 30 years (I'm 51 now) feeling so rotten all the time. If you are gargling with the salt water, then I wouldn't worry too much about what your salt intake is. It's much better to feel good. Just keep an eye on your blood pressure and if that is ok, then there's nothing to worry about. Have you tried a salt pipe? The salt in it is supposed to be different from table salt. And I'm going to try an epsom salt bath, lavender one, see if that makes any difference. There is magnesium in epsom salts which can help with other conditions too, just not to over do it.
Thanks for the tip though, I will try it and let you know how I go on. smile

It certainly doesn't cure it, but it's far easier. Honey and lemon before bed seems to calm things down a bit, but not enough on its own, the salt thing works well with it.

Yes I do have a very large bag of Epsom salts. The effects don't seem to last very long, but at least there is a time of relief. I make my own lavender oil and add that to baths. I grow a lot of lavender.

I came off everything, I used to be positively rattling, now all I use is pirinase nasal spray. Yes ok, I may occasionally lay there wishing I could breathe properly, but really I don't feel any worse now that I am off them all! A saltwater steam head bath is also good.

No, I haven't tried a salt pipe, it looks interesting but as long as the gargling works (I have learnt to do it quietly!) I shall stick to it.
