New update on my reclusive neighbours.....

Today they set their kitchen on fire.
First I knew of it was a knock on my door from other neighbours who had already rung 999. Smoke billowing out of their front door next to mine.
There have been three fire engines, two ambulances and two police cars here all afternoon.....the man next door has gone to hospital and the paramedics spent ages I think trying to persuade the woman not to stay in the house tonight...she sat on the fire engine step for about two hours... ....but eventually she went back in.

Firemen had to check my loft for smoke. My house is smoky.
I have been staying out of it..these people are too weird for me to deal with. Not happy with this situation though.
I just went out to get an update from a fireman, and apparently various people will now be involved in the next few days and I have been asked to ring environmental health tomorrow.
Could also ring councillor who helped before!

AIBU to dread having to go on living next door to them?

Oh let us hope that they go and stay away. I have everything crossed.

Hope they sell the house...won't get much though.

All change here, as I have also met the new neighbours the other side (empty since my old neighbour died), and they seem ok.....!
I left a note in the house about the fence I am going to put up between these neighbours and myself....to keep the DOGS out from No. 10....this is going to be a birthday present from my sister! He is ok about that.

Latest: two firemen dropped in in case I didn't know..house has been obviously empty. The man is still in hospital as they wouldn't release him to a derelict house...she is somewhere in a ground floor flat, so presumably he will join her.
Env. Health are apparently seeing to sorting out the house.

I was a bit wary of the house not being boarded up, but the firemen say it is almost impossible to get into. A bit like that castle in the fairytale, hemmed in by brambles.

What a very unsettling situation for you to be in. I can't recall if they own the house or not. If so I expect they will have the final word on what happens to it unless it is unsafe, but then obviously your own house will be affected.

But at least you won't have the worry of them setting the house on fire again, Alie!

I do hope things are sorted out soon and also that the authorities keep you informed - those neighbours have caused you more than enough worry.

There are definite pros and cons in that situation, Alie, though on balance it looks as if the outcome should be good. Good riddance, as long as it's final.

AlieOxon Thu 23-Jul-15 19:52:36

Yes, they own it.
It's nice to know a bit more.

Going to be a lot of hassle having it all done next door though.....

Modern society? At least the hunter gatherers are thought to have been equal in everything they did.(Reading about pre-history can sometimes be illuminating)

AshTree Fri 24-Jul-15 16:23:49

How very random confused. Have you opened the wrong door friends123?

AlieOxon Fri 24-Jul-15 16:49:54

I think someone is on the wrong thread......

Nelliemoser Fri 24-Jul-15 17:10:47

Oh dear! It is quite easy to post on the wrong thread.

AlieOxon Fri 24-Jul-15 18:21:52

If we get any sun, I will try and post a picture of next door!

tigger Fri 24-Jul-15 23:45:14

Keep a log going no matter what occurs and photographs try to support your position

PS after living next door to a family like this you have my utmost sympathy. Chin up nothing is forever.

What this doesn't show is that all the front windows are broken.....

dustyangel Sat 25-Jul-15 17:41:22

Words fail me, sad I hope it is able to be sold.

I'm glad you are feeling a bit better AlieO Take care. flowers

Here's the back sitting room window, over the back hedge.
The window is smashed and jammed up with bits of insulation and plywood.

It might be on 'Homes under the Hammer' shortly.

NfkDumpling Sat 25-Jul-15 20:12:15

Oh my goodness Alie! Words fail!

AlieOxon Sat 25-Jul-15 20:15:53

Believe it or not it was WORSE than this when they started to clear it before. The house was all covered with ivy and it was getting into my roof, the gutters were blocked on their side and overloading my (shared) gutter....
......but their roof is now worse at the back and sagging with tiles slipping off.

Bellasnana Sat 25-Jul-15 20:20:19

shock

annsixty Sat 25-Jul-15 20:45:15

What a horrible situation to be in and I really don't know how it will be resolved unless the council take steps to demolish and make your property good which still not may not make your house sellable. I would hope they would reinstate the property to it's original condition but that seems difficult looking at your photographs.

AlieOxon Sun 26-Jul-15 08:40:09

The concrete (yes) frame of the house will still be ok I think but the roof needs at least partly replacing.
Seen worse Hammer houses on the outside.....but the firemen said the inside is as bad...........I hate to think

Iam64 Sun 26-Jul-15 08:54:25

Nightmare for you AllieO, who got rid of the ivy? I do hope it can't get into your roof and cause damage.
