Rehousing issue for Grenfell Towers survivors

Shouldn't we wait for the result of the enquiry ?

Presumably some will have insurance money ( some residents have good jobs) others will use the money for everyday purposes, there should be no food bank use needed and I would be very sceptical about that claim.

In the meantime, there WAS a woman who had to use a foodbank, because there was a glitch in the system which would not allow her any money, and another who was disabled left sitting in her own faeces because her carers had forgotten about her.

Perhaps you ought to read the link before commenting on the people involved.
Or do you think all Grenfell survivors are just out for what they can get?

She didn't sign her own piece of paper to get food from the foodbank - or maybe some of you think she did.

There was only a glitch for one person? You would need to know if the groceries were just for a few days and then it was all sorted out, which am assuming it was, and these things do happen.Can't believe that a survivor of Grenfell was ignored when she needed help.The money given is quite generous,and hopefully it would be a very short time before it came through.As for the disabled lady being forgotten, I guess that may happen ( even though it shouldn't ) for anybody, not just survivors of Grenfell.
In an ideal world, there would be no administrative glitches, but nobody should be in such a rush to condemn the council, or government or anyone else, because the goodwill is there to help them, and most are being helped.

I was saying that most people are being helped in all sorts of ways that we can't know about, and many ways in which we do know about.
Trying to constantly denigrate anybody in authority, be it the Council or Government is idiotic.

Tell that to the people of Grenfell. They've been trying to get a proper response from their council for years.
Denigrating their council was all they had left.
You don't really expect praise for Kensington and Chelsea, do you?

Because the Council didn't pay attention to the residents concerns about fire risks, allegedly, that doesn't mean that the residents are being badly treated now in fact.

Actually I can see that there would be a problem for the Grenfell survivors to access money. Think of all the info you need to open a bank account. These people will have no IDs, no utility bills, no rent or council tax bills, many of them will have difficulty getting new passports. In fact I can see lots of problems. What I can't see is why anyone would imagine that any amount of money would compensate them or why anyone would question their accounts.

of course, there will be a lot of problems, anyone who has had their house burned down, and all their paperwork with it, will have problems starting up again, but I believe that the Council is doing all it can to be of help, including money.Housing is also being found, bought especially etc.
No amount of money helps with trauma issues, but it does help a family to continue living.

This woman lost four friends in the fire.

It was a short time, in my opinion for the charities to start distributing funds. Within 6 days. I don't know if that includes the person who had to use a food bank.

The whole quote from Emma Dent Coad is
"Another survivor family was having trouble getting their money out of the council because of a computer glitch and ended up going to a foodbank"

I think that 'out of the council' is a salient point here.
She was complaining about the council response and the council run 'Care for Grenfell' team.

I think it's difficult to judge this situation, given that the charities have no reason to lie about the distribution.

What length of time should a family be without food?
The council shouldn't be running Care for Grenfell. They are not trusted or trustworthy. If they were, this wouldn't have happened.

By the way, it's now over a hundred days since the fire. They should have sorted things out by now.

This is a very interesting interview with Emma Dent Coad about Kensington and what went wrong, and what has been done right there.

I watched Newsnight last night on people from the tower,how different to the residents portrayed on this the thread. Here we read of underprivalaged immigrants, placed in the tower by a brutal white middle class council.

Some residenents have lived there over twenty years, flats were light and airy, residents from different walks of life , professional and manual workers . nothing like the people described in this thread, the programme gave the residents dignity and respect.

I thought you weren't getting involved with the discussions. I thought you were waiting for the inquiry.
