"Conservative MP Jacob Rees-Mogg says he is "completely opposed" to abortion, including in cases of rape or incest."

Day6 Fri 08-Sept-17 16:27:17

Tegan - But we also have a right to be concerned about the fact that someone in a position of power 'might' be swayed by their beliefs and take away our rights to things such as abortion.

It ain't gonna happen.

No one man can take away our rights. It's naive to think so, but do carry on trying to scare those who might not be aware of how politics work.

Labour scare tactics, again, for those who'll read just a headline and jump on your bandwagon.

Project Fear - the hard left tactic.

I do know your patter lemongrove don't I. Rats, I can't remember just who.

GracesGranMK2 Fri 08-Sept-17 16:32:45

It ain't gonna happen.

Now I wonder how many said that about others who got to power and overturned all they held in high regard.

(That's unless you are actually God and know something we don't about the future of JRMgrin|)

Baggs Fri 08-Sept-17 16:34:28

being honest is not by itself admirable

Really?

Gosh!

I'd always thought it was ?

lemongrove Fri 08-Sept-17 16:38:16

Me too Baggs
Honesty is honesty! ?
Day6 exactly.

devongirl Fri 08-Sept-17 16:40:59

As said previously, would being honest about being, say, a white supremacist, make that person admirable?!

Anniebach Fri 08-Sept-17 16:41:40

Well, lemon isn't the former poster who sent PM's telling posters to ignore a certain poster, even I recognise that poster and I am hopeless at that game, in fact I don't play it, it's just an excuse to pick on posters , better things to do than ponder on that childish past time

Baggs Fri 08-Sept-17 16:42:18

No, but the honesty is still admirable.

Baggs Fri 08-Sept-17 16:42:35

That was in answer to devon

Anniebach Fri 08-Sept-17 16:43:46

That they were a were a white supremist isn't honourable, than they were honest and said they were is

Anniebach Fri 08-Sept-17 16:44:42

What isn't honourable is claiming to be a pacifist whilst supporting terrorists

Day6 Fri 08-Sept-17 16:45:56

I am not sure why posters are complaining that Anniebach's concern about Corbyn's socialist dream is unwarranted.

If we are talking about MPs with worrying beliefs, Corbyn is right up there and he and hard-left Momentum are the scariest thing to have happened in British politics for a long time.

Their beliefs have to be examined too. Not just one man, but a huge hard left section out to purge the Labour party of moderate MPs.

They have also set out to influence a whole swathe of very young, first time voters who uber-liberal, naive and idealistic (beer) goggles to view the world. Glastonbury is an example of Corbyn's stalking. He had a captive audience of young people ripe for the revolution.

Venezuela. Says it all.

Mogg ought to be Moggy, a pussycat by comparison.

lemongrove Fri 08-Sept-17 16:47:31

You could say that JRM was rather brave for coming out with his own unpopular views, as well as being honest.
Most politicians either lie outright, prevaricate or deflect.

Baggs Fri 08-Sept-17 16:51:02

Anyone who thinks honesty in a person is not an admirable quality needs their head examining.

Please note, it is the honesty that is admirable. The person may be full of all sorts of other faults and imperfections (like the rest of us) but the fact that they are honest is admirable in spite of any other faults (like holding the wrong political views).

devongirl Fri 08-Sept-17 16:57:00

Baggs, thank you for clarifying. Your previous post picked up on an earlier post saying being honest is not by itself admirable, I see you do agree with that.

GracesGranMK2 Fri 08-Sept-17 17:00:04

Honesty would tell us more about who exactly a person is wouldn't it?

GracesGranMK2 Fri 08-Sept-17 17:00:56

But though we might, for a moment, admire the honesty that doesn't change the person does it?

Baggs Fri 08-Sept-17 17:02:10

Not who but what. In JRM's case know who he is already. As he has become more noticed in the media we are learning what as well, things like honest, articulate, good hunoured, always voting the wrong way, etc.

Baggs Fri 08-Sept-17 17:02:36

weknow who...

GracesGranMK2 Fri 08-Sept-17 17:03:08

They are still exactly the same person who, for whatever reason, we have despised in the past aren't they.

GracesGranMK2 Fri 08-Sept-17 17:04:10

I like the honesty that tells me who a person is - anything else would be dishonest ... wouldn't it?

Baggs Fri 08-Sept-17 17:04:27

A person can be seen as a collection of qualities good, bad and indifferent. But the qualities themselves are separate from the person so a single quality, honesty for instance, can be a quality of several people who differ very widely in other things.

Anniebach Fri 08-Sept-17 17:13:57

Strange how not one self claimed socialist - apart from me ?- have not mentioned Khan and Burnham prevented from speaking at the party conference . This is suppose to be the party for all , well that's what Corby said when became leader , yet these two men have been gagged . Suppose they come into McDonald's class of f*****g losers

GracesGranMK2 Fri 08-Sept-17 17:40:25

But the qualities themselves are separate from the person

You are joking, right?

Tegan2 Fri 08-Sept-17 17:54:09

No; I don't trust Corbyn either. And I often have ding dong battles with Red Labour on facebook. But it will take a lot to stop me voting for them at the moment given that I find the Conservative Party absolutely terrifying and, alas, the LibDems tend to be a wasted vote sad.
