"Conservative MP Jacob Rees-Mogg says he is "completely opposed" to abortion, including in cases of rape or incest."

lemongrove Sat 09-Sept-17 13:27:37

So much fake news and assumptions and innuendo around,
Which is a worrying turn of events.

Anniebach Sat 09-Sept-17 13:35:13

I too would like to know about this group Rees-Mogg is part of.

GracesGranMK2 Sat 09-Sept-17 14:00:23

"His obnoxious views should not be used to attack the principle."

Have they been grumpa? I thought they were put forward as a good reason why he should not be Prime Minister - an opinion we are allowed to hold. On that, as long as the Tory party go to the country should be become their leader, we will all have a chance to express an opinion. But I wouldn't trust the Tories to do that so we are limited to discussing it on here.

Perhaps you should google "natural family planning" durhamjen, it might help to assuage your unhealthy interest in the sex life of JRM.

Baggs Sat 09-Sept-17 14:32:19

Natural family planning is very effective if you know what you're doing.

This article in the Telegraph seems to be about the repatriation hoohah. Seems JRM did not realise quite how nutty the group was when he accepted the invitation to speak at a black tie dinner.

lemongrove Sat 09-Sept-17 17:32:32

Ah, a bit different to saying these are JRM own views.
Having read the link, it seems to be only the views of somebody who invited him to speak, and JRM did not agree with said views.

Igranma Sat 09-Sept-17 17:47:52

Jacob is a really good constituency MP, a lot of people agree with most of his views on abortion if not all of them.
I agree with Sarah Vine he is to be admired for giving a honest answer when challenged, we could do with a few more people of his principles in parliament.
Abortion should not be used as contraception

paddyann Sat 09-Sept-17 17:53:14

abortion ISN'T used as contraception ,thats a myth .It needs two doctors to sign off an abortion and councelling before it goes ahead ...its not something MOST women do lightly but its something that if not available could ruin multiple lives .

devongirl Sat 09-Sept-17 17:57:22

sorry Igranma I simply find it impossible to believe that all people in his constituency agree with his views - which you suggest to be a possibility

GracesGranMK2 Sat 09-Sept-17 18:05:11

Great for the rich but not at all great for the poor it is inflicted on in some counties by priests who will never (one hopes) have to worry about such things.

Mmm.

GracesGranMK2 Sat 09-Sept-17 18:09:28

So if Hitler had told a journalist honestly that he intended to gas the Jews, your first thought would be to admire him for his honesty Igranma?

Madgran77 Sat 09-Sept-17 18:14:07

GracesGran"Gassing" anyone is murder so not really a comparison to be made to abortion or gay marriage imo. (some would say abortion is murder!!)
JRM - he is a refreshing change from the usual politicians spin/waffle/cover up/avoiding the question/ not answering the question etc etc ..even though I don't agree with all his views

GracesGranMK2 Sat 09-Sept-17 18:16:10

But you would have to admire him for telling the truth whatever it is according to some comments on here. Let's not get down to the dirty business of his politics, he's such a nice man isn't he - so refreshing.

Madgran77 Sat 09-Sept-17 18:20:39

Well yes, I think I do think he is admirable in terms of being honest about his own personal views despite that being unbelievably rare in politics these days ....yes, lets leave his actual politics aside!! [hmmm]

trisher Sat 09-Sept-17 18:40:43

So honest and caring. He would not allow woman who had been raped to abort a child, but if it was her third pregnancy and she was on benefits he would cut her benefits and allow the family to slowly starve.

I agree, gg. Self-imposition is the only sort I'd condone though I'm not sure being rich has anything to do with that. It's more a case of knowledge. Money isn't required.

Baggs Sat 09-Sept-17 20:12:38

Saying someone is refreshingly honest is not the same as saying one approves of the point of view they have honestly expressed when asked for it.

Baggs Sat 09-Sept-17 20:13:17

Someof you seem to love to hate.

POGS Sat 09-Sept-17 20:36:03

Ye Gods.

Hitler/Gassing Jews/ Personal Sexual Habits/False Allegations / Allowing Families to Slowly Starve To Death.

GracesGranMK2 Sat 09-Sept-17 20:44:19

Why is this honesty seen as unusual. Have some people been reading too many of the comics of the news business? Many, if not most of our constituency MPs are honest but don't have his extremist views.

How many people in the country at large knew about Jo Cox before her sad death? All over the country there are honest, brilliant local MPs. Let's not big this guy up because he answered a question - to which we all knew the answer - without lying. That is really not all I want from a politician; that is setting the bar far too low.

I want to know what they will do for the country, or in his case to the country - he is a far-right Tory after all. I do not want someone who appears to be living whimsically back in the 1817 - I am really not ready to be a peasant to his idea of the ruling class.

Chewbacca Sat 09-Sept-17 20:47:12

This thread has taken a decidedly toxic turn for the worse and gives a unpleasant insight into the mental pschye of certain posters. I feel tainted just reading some of it. If these are the opinions that you're happy to post on a public forum, God only knows what's going on in your heads in private.

GracesGranMK2 Sat 09-Sept-17 20:54:03

Is that because you don't see things in the same way that others do Chewbacca. Shall we call your views 'toxic' because to me they are if you are supporting the far-right.

POGS Sat 09-Sept-17 21:03:23

'Hitler/Gassing Jews/ Personal Sexual Habits/False Allegations / Allowing Families to Slowly Starve To Death.'

Now 'Supporting the Far Right'

Sigh

trisher Sat 09-Sept-17 21:03:44

You don't HAVE to read any of it Chewbacca, It is a choice you know. As for what's going on in my head, well it's pretty much what I post. I believe in a woman's right to choose, I believe that all children should be properly supported and cared for not just the first 2. I don't like the fact that someone like Rees Mogg born into privilege, living in wealth ,should be able to cause devastation and deprivation in the lives of people who have been born into circumstances less affluent than his.
