I can be heard shouting at the TV when actors hold cups/mugs around the outside instead of using the handle properly.

Hugging a cushion elicits the same reaction from me.

NanKate
Yeah...those things annoy me too, mind you I don't watch soaps or fiction on tv where most of that drivel is to be found. They always seem to hug mugs. A mug hugger...hate 'em.
'Myself' and 'yourself' used out of context, ' fort, fink, frew, etc instead of thought, think, through and gunna (going to) plus leaving out the 'ing' ending of multiple words.
Let's just say that I hate illiteracy.

Oh dear so many. the main one is as everyone does here in Sweden, use a tooth pick at the table excavating their teeth in front of everyone still trying to enjoy their meal, makes me feel sick
People talking loudly on their phones, particularly while on the bus, obviously leading a boring life, giving details.

sue01 Wed 14-Nov-18 10:25:45

People saying "Wrap up warm".

Even the BBC do it.

It drives me absolutely potty !

Marthjolly1 Wed 14-Nov-18 10:26:07

Sitting in the 'quiet coach' on the train with other passengers who have also reserved a seat in the quiet coach who completely disregard the notices requesting observation of 'quiet'. Taking or making phone calls, chatting loudly to their companions or striking up conversations with obvious strangers - and then there's crisp packet rustling. angry.

Another rant, getting on a plane and waiting behind numerous people who take their time taking coat/jackets of putting their hand luggage up, unaware of a hundred people waiting to get to their seat, why doesnt everyone take outer clothing off before boarding the plane, so much simpler.I think I will write to plane companies to announce passengers should do this, and speed boarding and subsequent flying on time.

Oh my goodness I've just read all the above and my head is aching with the nodding. ?. I think I am definitely becoming a grumpy old woman. Also, whenever these threads get on to irritating grammar I always add one of my pet peeves, the pronouncing of mischievious wrongly. I want to scream when I hear 'mischeeveeous'. I've never seen any grans agree so is it just me??

lizzypopbottle Wed 14-Nov-18 10:39:49

I'm on a roll now! People who say nuculus (biology teacher!), nucular, sickth, haitch, crate or cuh-rate (instead of create). I'm still thinking of more...

If you can pronounce the word clear, you can pronounce nuclear and nucleus.
If you can't pronounce sixth, how do you manage sixty? Sickty?
If you can pronounce the word cream, you can pronounce create.
Haitch is simply wrong.

4allweknow Wed 14-Nov-18 10:41:55

You should ask how much it costs for a bag/laptop to have a seat and mention you hope it is comfortable. It's the same on trains, I just lift them up and ask who "this" belongs to. Usually have a seat in seconds

mabon1 Wed 14-Nov-18 10:43:13

For goodness sake stoping moaning about nothing at all. Just think of all the really ill and needy people in this world, get out there to help them.

Nanny27 Wed 14-Nov-18 10:46:29

Never sure what to say when I'm asked how myself is. Do I say 'myself is fine thank yourself'?

Grannycuddles Wed 14-Nov-18 10:47:53

Im quite laid back, not alot bothers me. My husband,on the other hand,is irritated by EVERYTHING! And this has now become my irritation?. Every time he moans about something minor it irritates me that he's irritated by something there's no need to be irritated by! ? if you can't beat em' ,join em' ?

chrissyh Wed 14-Nov-18 10:52:37

When the person in front of me at the supermarket check out waits until they finish packing their bags then hands over a pile of coupons that have to be sorted through to see if they have actually bought the items, they then find their purse and pay, while I stand there fuming angry

EllanVannin Wed 14-Nov-18 10:58:19

Nanny 27 there are only two " i's " in mischievous anyway so those who pronounce it wrong obviously can't spell either.

What annoyed me greatly at one time was when boarding a plane and more than half the passengers were getting ready to sleep,or were already asleep------in the morning ! I once asked one of the cabin staff, loudly, had they been there all night.

GabriellaG Wed 14-Nov-18 11:01:23

Add stupid drivers and those who can't park their vehicles correctly or turn indicators off.
Till or bus queues where people seem to not realise that they need to pay until after being served, then scrabble about for purse or card especially after packing shopping.
I could go on but the list would be long...very long. grin
I was on a bus recently where an elderly man (probably younger than I am) boarded with his wife in a wheelchair.
No card presented until he'd felt in all his pockets and asked wife if she had it...then the scenario of her rooting in her bag.
Another wait whilst he manoeuvred her chair then, when driver patiently waited for him to sit before he pulled away, the guy produced a webbing strap which he spent ages figuring out how to fix it with the driver anxiously looking round to see what was going on.
I eventually had to speak when there were 2 buses backed up waiting to let passengers off/on. 'Hey mate', I said, 'How about sitting down and letting the driver keep to his schedule?'
Hewasn't best pleased but the driver was.
I can't stand people who take ages to do stuff or don't prepare in advance. angrygrin

henetha Wed 14-Nov-18 11:03:26

I get irritated by people getting irritated about small unimportant things. grin

Scribbles Wed 14-Nov-18 11:05:12

lizzypb, I filled in the forms and jumped through all the hoops to try and put a stop to RM-delivered undressed junk at my previous address. So far as we could ascertain, it had no effect whatsoever!

Something else that winds me up: not being able to turn off predictive text on this stupid Asus tablet. Grrrr!

Anniebach Wed 14-Nov-18 11:09:17

Constant critcism of how people pronounce words incorrectly and criticism of spelling errors.

Parcels covered in sticky tape

Carol Malone , because she has such a loud voice

Scribbles Wed 14-Nov-18 11:10:05

Oh, heavens! Predictive text strikes yet again! Undressed junk might be really interesting but I was trying to say "unaddressed"!

loopyloo Wed 14-Nov-18 11:17:49

Pedestrians that are so engrossed in their phones that they don't see your car coming.

Bazza Wed 14-Nov-18 11:18:15

Heighth instead of height. Drivers who use indicators as optional extras. Holding a knife like a pen. Upspeak. Most of the above. I do think I’ve got more intolerant as I’ve got older. I do try to keep it in perspective. It’s just irritants.

lovebeigecardigans1955 Wed 14-Nov-18 11:20:50

I hate being expected to multi-task just because I'm a woman. I prefer to concentrate on one thing at a time. Does this make me weird?
I hate seeing someone hold a pen/pencil wrongly, trivial I know but it annoys me.

cwasin Wed 14-Nov-18 11:26:08

Jewllery of jewellery. Even on the Antiques Roadshow! Grrrrrr

Camelotclub Wed 14-Nov-18 11:27:08

MissAdventure - I'm afraid I'd say something re the bags on seats!

I am irritated by:
- TV adverts, except the Xmas jumper one and the Worcester cats
- People starting every sentence with "So"
- The word 'like' out of context, know what I mean, like?

I expect there are loads more but I would be Grumpy Old Woman!

Camelotclub Wed 14-Nov-18 11:28:35

Oh yes, "From the get-go".

Where did that come from? US I expect, like most banalities. What is get-go? What's wrong with 'start'?

Camelotclub Wed 14-Nov-18 11:29:17

Oh, and "sickth" instead of "sixth".

Must stop now.
