I can be heard shouting at the TV when actors hold cups/mugs around the outside instead of using the handle properly.

Hugging a cushion elicits the same reaction from me.

Chewy, I have a colleague who carries walnut pieces in her pocket and nibbles them all day, while talking to me, while on computer etc. She says she's on a diet but the amount she gets through must be quite fattening. I just want to throw them out of the window!

mabon1 Wed 14-Nov-18 11:30:43

People who say " different to" instead of "different from". Evan Davies from Newsnight, The Bottom Line and Today says it all the time!

Nanny123 Wed 14-Nov-18 11:34:08

When you hold a door open for someone and they walk through and dont say thank you

Babsbada Wed 14-Nov-18 11:52:29

Yup! All of the above plus adults who allow children to sit in priority seats on the bus while elderly or infirm people stand. Grrrrrrrr!

polly123 Wed 14-Nov-18 11:53:34

Has anyone else noticed the latest affectation of dropping 't's all over the place such as in 'getting' becoming 'ge...ng'? Often heard on bbc and other news channels. Grrr.

DoraMarr Wed 14-Nov-18 12:18:54

Ooh something else- people- usually elderly couples, who get off the escalator in shops, then stand and have a discussion about where they are going next, so that you cannon into them when you come up the escalator behind them.

Oh yes that one is really irritating Dora

jangeo44 Wed 14-Nov-18 12:24:43

People who end an "ing" word with "ink". So many tv presenters seem guilty of this. E.g.. something becomes somethink

GillT57 Wed 14-Nov-18 12:25:31

I agree with most of these irritating things but I am with polly123, the absolute worst is dropped 't's. I have to turn it off and can't take seriously anything being said by someone who drops their 't'. As soon as I hear sa-urday, or wa-er, I tune out. It is not always young hip presenters either, often people old enough to know better. harrumph

grandtanteJE65 Wed 14-Nov-18 12:25:49

People on television or in real life sitting down to eat or starting to prepare food without washing their hands first!

People with long hair preparing food or looking after babies with their hair hanging all over the place instead of being tied back or put up.

Craftycat Wed 14-Nov-18 12:26:47

You mean apart from DH??

My current hangup is people starting sentences with 'so'. It is very common these days & drives me potty - 'So- I went out this morning' 'So - I like a coffee after dinner' etc.
TBH I hate all the 'Americanisms' that pollute our language .

Purplepoppies Wed 14-Nov-18 12:32:20

Irrationally it's hiccups that annoy me. I mean really really annoy me. It started when I was pregnant and my baby had hiccups I think.
The bags on seats can be irritating but I always tell people that I need a seat and to move them. I have even been known to ask young fit able bodied youngsters for a seat, especially when they are sitting in seats that are meant for disabled people like myself!! I'm not particularly shy like that as I know if I fell on a bus it would likely mean a stint in hospital.... be bold if you can, you'll find most folk are obliging (or embarrassed) and will give you a seat!

People who come out of shops and just stop, right in the doorway are very irritating indeed.
Sniffing is another bug bear. I have offered tissues to sniffers on public transport. Spitting is definitely worse though. Just vile...

Patticake123 Wed 14-Nov-18 12:34:53

Currently what is irritating me is my husband who has a cold. If I have to listen to his deep meaningless sighs for much longer, I fear I shall scream. I’m going to the supermarket now to get away from it. And before I get replies about how lucky I am to have a husband, I do know that and yes, his moaning and groaning must be preferable to silence, but right this minute.....Tesco here I come!

Jane43 Wed 14-Nov-18 12:45:26

I’m the same as MissAdventure when I go on the train. People with handbags, coats etc taking up a seat when others are standing. I haven’t noticed this on the bus but what really irritates me on the bus is young people going one or two stops before getting off. Why on earth don’t they walk? I also bet very irritated when watching a programme such as Daily Politics and some guests constantly interrupt others when they are trying to answer a question they have been asked by the presenter.

Lancslass1 Wed 14-Nov-18 12:46:12

I am with you Dora May regarding yourself instead of you etc.
I hate "between you and I" and "almost unique"and several more grammatical errors like "revert back"
I hate children being called "kids"
I dislike grown ups being addressed as "guys"

Ironmaiden Wed 14-Nov-18 12:47:40

I have less junk mail since I started marking the envelopes ‘unsolicited, please return to sender’ and putting them in the post box.

Theoddbird Wed 14-Nov-18 12:49:24

People moaning about everything and anything and being continually negative when they should be looking at the positives in their lives.

BonnieBlooming Wed 14-Nov-18 12:55:23

The journalists who stand outside Number 10 and shout questions at politicians! When are they going to realise they never answer.?

Jaye53 Wed 14-Nov-18 12:59:19

Mobile phone conversations: people who DART out on the zebracrossings with no thought what'soever for drivers:

Cherrytree59 Wed 14-Nov-18 13:01:24

Droning on about minor health issues.
After the first few symptoms my eyes glaze over.
cant you just take an
aspirin or lemsip

Wish I could be more sympathetic but know too many people who have or had debilitating illness and have got on with life the best way they can.

Northern Island - I always ask which one!
How difficult is it to say Ireland

barbh Wed 14-Nov-18 13:14:51

I'm with you there, DanniRae. It really gets under my skin whenever people say 'haitch'. But since my lovely 29 year old intelligent, legal assistant granddaughter started saying it years ago when she was still in high school (in Australia), because her Catholic school teachers used the 'h' aitch as the norm, I've had no choice but to keep my mouth firmly shut, as she's far more clever than I am! But still, every time I hear it said, ee, it's agony. Ivy!

Magicmaggie Wed 14-Nov-18 13:15:47

I hate PM’ s Question Times on the BBC. It’s just been on.
I’ve had to go into another room as my DH insists on
watching it.
All that shouting each other down, harrumphing and
loud laughter really p*** me off.
Totally pathetic.
?
watching it.
All that shouting and harrumphing.

KatyK Wed 14-Nov-18 13:19:08

Oh yes the sixth thing. Why is that word so difficult? Most of the newsreaders say 'sick'. Also interviewers who ask 'what was you doing at the time?' People who stand for ages in long queues in supermarkets and start mooching about for their money when asked to pay.

blueskies Wed 14-Nov-18 13:19:59

People who end a sentence with “whatever”.
