To be shocked by Jeremy Kyle

My DH is addicted to Jeremy Kyle. I have asked him why this is and he just says it is because he cannot believe such people exist. The whole programme upsets me as I feel he is a nasty piece of work taking advantage of people less fortunate than ourselves and unable to help themselves. I have to go and sit in another room and even then I can still hear it.

That's an insult to the horse MissAdventure grin

While JK may not be everyones kettle of fish,I like his direct approach saying what a lot of us think, to the "guests" So many of them are obviously on there for the "fame and celebrity" status they believe they gain in the eyes of like-minded people. Many of them appear again and again, bragging about their behaviour and showing themselves up. I call them sub-humans .Then there are the stories of families being re united, successful therapy for addicts and genuine ,ordinary people who are desperate for help. I wouldn't choose to appear on there if I had problems but for many it's the last resort.

Marydoll Thu 29-Nov-18 08:16:49

No what what they have done, nor how they behave, sub -humans is a dreadful term. sad

Anniebach Thu 29-Nov-18 08:34:58

this is the cruelest thread I have read on this forum , says more about some who watch the programme that those who are guests on it.

MissAdventure Thu 29-Nov-18 08:39:25

Just so, Annie.

EllanVannin Thu 29-Nov-18 08:41:12

Ask yourselves if you were in business would you employ these people ? Or the " house-swap " programme ?

Marydoll Thu 29-Nov-18 08:49:57

Therefore for the grace of God go I.
What gives us the right to be so judgemental? I'm shocked at some of the comments on here.

I hate to watch the programme and especially the arguing and shouting but these are real people and we should all think there but for the grace of God go I. I especially hate that they are put up to ridicule by the audience and JK. I have known many people through the years who have got themselves into situations beyond their control but it does not make them subhumans because they go on a tv programme to ask for help.

I remember years ago watching Jerry Springer and a lad brought a lovely girl on to tell her that because she had slept with him he could never marry her. She was devastated. It was then that I stopped watching any sort of reality tv as it is exploitative and helps nobody.
Maybe Mary Whitehouse had the right idea and these programmes should be banned. Unfortunately they get the viewers and they cost very little to make.

Anniebach Thu 29-Nov-18 09:02:18

the grace of God has nothing to do with it, to say it has is saying ‘ I am chosen by God to be superior,

sodapop Thu 29-Nov-18 09:03:15

I read this morning how viewers felt Anne Hegerty was being exploited on the jungle programme, reality TV has become quite sad.
Gillybob one strives for perfection at all times.

EllanVannin Thu 29-Nov-18 09:06:11

So rather than say no to my question, I'm being judgemental ? Mmmm. So easy to sidestep online,eh ?

dragonfly46 Thu 29-Nov-18 09:08:51

Gosh you really have it in for me haven't you Anniebach. This will be my last comment!

Anniebach Thu 29-Nov-18 09:09:20

It was a silly question,

Anniebach Thu 29-Nov-18 09:13:33

No drsgonfly i never ‘have it in for anyone’, I do not believe people are chosen by God to be anything , not to be of any class .

Marydoll Thu 29-Nov-18 09:20:59

Annie , my understanding of that phrase means , if you are talking about someone who is in a bad situation and you say There but for the grace of God go I, you mean that you are lucky not to be in the same situation as them and you feel sympathy for them.

Anniebach Thu 29-Nov-18 09:24:13

I know some think of it as that Marydoll, i don’t and said so, if I have caused upset i apologise.

gillybob Thu 29-Nov-18 09:38:02

My personal opinion about God is that assuming he or she exists ( and I suspect not) then he/ she shows little grace to some poor souls .

It’s not just about having money or not having money either before anyone suggests it

I happen to agree with dragonfly . I was born on a rough estate. I lived in the same rough estate for many years as did my son, DiL and their children until only a few years ago, my dad in his 80’s wouldn’t leave there now. Was I glad my DGC got away? Too bl**dy right I was !
Sodapop calling me patronising ! Ha what a joke . Stay up there on you pedestal working toward perfection .

EllanVannin Thu 29-Nov-18 09:38:37

Why do people volunteer to be in shows like these ? Especially the jungle when not one of them needs the money. GP's have signed people off work for less than Anne Hegerty's suffering right now she's not exactly a fit person to be where she is.

Marydoll Thu 29-Nov-18 09:39:12

No Annie, you haven't upset me at all.

gillybob Thu 29-Nov-18 09:40:39

I see people in the school playground every damned day that I wish I could pick up and shake and say “ listen to yourself” , talking they way they do in front of their poor little children who know and see no other.

gillybob Thu 29-Nov-18 09:41:55

I’ve got no time for JK or I’m a 3rd rate celebrity hasbeen or wannabe either .

oldbatty Thu 29-Nov-18 09:57:07

Annie, why are you being so mean, because I know its not really you at all.

I know your faith is important to you but " there but for the grace of God go I " is an everyday saying.

dragon seems kind and concerned to me , unlike some others.

Anniebach Thu 29-Nov-18 10:14:55

batty. I am not being ‘mean’, all I have said is I do not believe we are who we are through Gods grace. No different to giving my opinion on anything said in a thread , as you have just done by accusing me of being mean.

maryeliza54 Thu 29-Nov-18 10:35:56

Although I come at it from a very different perspective from annie I share her view that God’s grace has nothing to do with how we end up. It’s much much more complicated than that - there’s a huge variety of factors involved and many of them are not always under our control. If overall our lives have turned out reasonably well, then I think it behoves us to have some sympathy for those where things haven’t turned out so fortunately. We could all make a start at not watching programmes like JK, CPWP, Benefits Street etc - getting entertainment from other peoples inadequacy, misfortune etc - these programmes don’t give any eenlightenment or enhance our understanding at all anymore than Cash in the Attic or Bargain Hunt give us an understanding of the antiques trade - but the latter example can be labelled genuine entertainment and enjoyable and no one is exploited or made a laughing stock.

oldbatty Thu 29-Nov-18 10:46:10

I don't think dragon meant any harm not did she when she said she played with " poorer" children in her childhood.

I suppose many of us trot out things and although we try not to offend ,we may accidently do so. Also the nuance of our points doesn't translate well to the typed word.
