The Sussexes & Hypocrisy

Prince Harry said earlier in the week that social media is as addictive for kids as drugs and alcohol. They can be bullied and become anxious and depressed.

Instagram seems to be the worst apparently, although he didn't mention that by name.

However, AIBU to expect Harry and Meghan with all their virtue-signalling, to be less hypocritical? The Sussexes have just set up an Instagram account and already have over 3 million followers apparently !!! Is this not blatant hypocrisy?

Before this, Harry's topic was a climate change lecture to young people while he and Meghan zipped about in private jets for her baby shower and his trip back for Valentine's Day.

I have always been very fond of Harry but since he has become New Agey and got on various soapboxes, they both have had a marvellous chance to practise what they preach..... but are not doing it.

I'm disappointed in him.

Day6, two good posts.

Mahawthorn, please stay.

Bridgeit Fri 05-Apr-19 18:00:40

Yes Goodpoint Sparklefizz, But there again I guess we can all be a little guilty of doing this at times.

They both have advisors who are not realising the problems caused by the conflict between what they actually do and how they come across.
Do they take any notice of their advisors?
Yet another one is leaving.

So many being sucked into the media circus of Royalty/Celebrity bashing
I do think that, in the main, our Royal Family is good for us as a country and our reputation in the world and was pleased when Harry settled down to marriage and starting a family.
However, I am beginning to have misgivings about some of the decisions they make. Do they run any of this past the Queen first? I'm not sure that she would be happy about all this extravagance in their private lives.

Callistemon Fri 05-Apr-19 18:21:44

They're only there to make the rest of us inferior ..subjects instead of citizens
That's odd
My passport tells me I am a citizen. I am no-one's subject.

merlotgran Fri 05-Apr-19 18:24:29

I'd never heard of Meghan Markle before Prince Harry fancied her. I'd also never heard of Amal Clooney before she married George. These women are now key players on a world stage. Smart career moves.

Of course none of us had heard of Kate Middleton before Prince William started going out with her and she had to endure years of negative comments and taunts before he finally married her. She hasn't put a foot wrong.

I doubt MM would have lasted that long in a relationship without the kudos, position and wealth that marrying a royal brings.

Lucky for her it was a whirlwind romance and a short engagement.

Anniebach Fri 05-Apr-19 18:29:50

I certaintly don’t feel or think I am inferior, I am sorry for anyone who does, or thinks of themselves as ‘a subject’ I am a citizen

Calendargirl Fri 05-Apr-19 18:30:35

It's the constant cradling of the baby bump that irritates me.

maddyone Fri 05-Apr-19 18:33:01

I’m a citizen too Annie.

Absolutely Merlotgran, a very good post.

maddyone Fri 05-Apr-19 18:34:45

My opinion only, but Meghan appears to have emasculated Harry.

eazybee Fri 05-Apr-19 18:56:00

I am very disappointed in the conspicuous consumption displayed by the Sussexes, and I certainly don't care to be lectured by either of them.
I hope that when the baby arrives they will develop some common sense.
ps. I hadn't heard of Amal Clooney either before she married George Clooney, but she was an international lawyer with a high flying career.
Had anyone heard of Michelle Obama before she was the President's wife?
Unfortunately, even in this modern world, it is still marriage that gives a woman the best chance of security, if not always happiness.

Must admit to being slightly impressed that some people seem to have an insider knowledge of their life together.

Tantrums; staff turnover; feuds with the Cambridges….

Clearly I'm reading/listening to the wrong media. Where does all this tripe appear?

vigdis Fri 05-Apr-19 19:11:52

Oh boy, snarky digs at Meghan and Harry!
Enjoy yourselves... you're doing just what the Press want you to do, and that is why they keep raking over the tidbits of these two's lives so that they can find some little morsel to extricate, inflate and serve up to the salivating public, in order to continue selling their wretched rags. Who cares if it's true... the public just lurve Royal gossip.

Anniebach Fri 05-Apr-19 19:13:58

The advisor who has worked for the royals for some years was part of the team chosen to work with her when they married, as was a female security officer and a secretary, they have quit

Grandmama Fri 05-Apr-19 19:22:11

I'm sorry about the direction in which Harry is going, I fear the worst, he seems to have been swept off his feet.

I wonder what effect their new advisor Sara Latham will have - she was a senior advisor for Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign and worked for Barack Obama.

The Queen put a stop to Harry and Meghan setting up a sort of separate court.

Callistemon Fri 05-Apr-19 19:58:38

Had anyone heard of Michelle Obama before she was the President's wife?
I hadn't actually heard of Barack Obama before he ran for and became POTUS.

Framilode Fri 05-Apr-19 20:02:15

Well I do have inside knowledge and yes it is all true.

Anja Fri 05-Apr-19 20:06:55

Oh course you do Framilode ?

Callistemon Fri 05-Apr-19 20:09:27

and why not?

Tish Fri 05-Apr-19 20:40:05

Don’t even get me started on her US baby shower...

sazz1 Fri 05-Apr-19 20:45:29

I have no time for any of them and don't see why anyone should bow or curtsy to another human being. They are all a huge waste of taxpayers money. Their security police would be better employed policing our streets and money spent on the while RF could go a long way towards housing, schools, NHS, support services for elderly and disabled etc etc.

sluttygran Fri 05-Apr-19 21:22:14

I have nothing against the Royals as individuals - I do however think they could do just as good a job without quite so much extravagant pampering and expense.
What really gets on my nerves is the fawning sycophancy and grovelling that goes on whenever they speak, or laugh, or even manage to produce a baby.
If I met any of them I would flatly refuse to curtsy. I might allow them the honour of shaking my hand.
I think I’d make an exception for the Queen - she’s very old, very respectable, and has never put a foot wrong. I would make her a cuppa and offer her the comfiest chair!

Anniebach Fri 05-Apr-19 21:45:44

The royals cannot be blamed if some choose to curtsy or bow , it certaintly isn’t compulsory

Grandma70s Fri 05-Apr-19 21:46:21

I would definitely curtsey to the Queen. To other senior royals I might just incline my head a little. I would treat Meghan like anyone else, because to me she is not royal at all.

No one has to curtsey to the Queen. It isn’t a law, just a custom. Nothing would happen if you didn't, so no need to get worked up about it.

HellsBells Fri 05-Apr-19 22:16:19

What is the matter with you people - you dont know these people where is your integrity - it always begins with yourselves -
