The Sussexes & Hypocrisy

Prince Harry said earlier in the week that social media is as addictive for kids as drugs and alcohol. They can be bullied and become anxious and depressed.

Instagram seems to be the worst apparently, although he didn't mention that by name.

However, AIBU to expect Harry and Meghan with all their virtue-signalling, to be less hypocritical? The Sussexes have just set up an Instagram account and already have over 3 million followers apparently !!! Is this not blatant hypocrisy?

Before this, Harry's topic was a climate change lecture to young people while he and Meghan zipped about in private jets for her baby shower and his trip back for Valentine's Day.

I have always been very fond of Harry but since he has become New Agey and got on various soapboxes, they both have had a marvellous chance to practise what they preach..... but are not doing it.

I'm disappointed in him.

I think quite a lot of us are showing our integrity. Not sure about Harry and Meghan though. Having strong moral principles cuts both ways and what about honesty?

Callistemon Fri 05-Apr-19 23:14:35

"where is your integrity"
Fully intact and functioning.

Eloethan Sat 06-Apr-19 00:42:14

I think it was most unwise of him to criticise social media and then to make use of it.

However, Charles in particular is also very good at making pronouncements re other people's behaviour, which he does not apply to his own behaviour. So I suppose it's no surprise that his children follow suit.

Frankly, I think they are all over-privileged and cossetted people who are stuck in some sort of time warp and totally out of touch with the lives of the average person.

I agree with you Razzy ,they do take economy flights a lot of the time etc. I don't think Meghan is a shallow person at all Craftycat ...what makes you think that? I personally think she is a stunningly beautiful woman & don't find it in the least weak to hold her newly wed husbands hand on occasion.

Marylou1977 Sat 06-Apr-19 05:09:37

Wow! Such nastiness! They haven’t even been married a year yet and have had many changes under world scrutiny. I wonder how many of us could hold up to such scrutiny? Marriage is hard under any circumstance. She has to get used to marriage, pregnancy, a culture different from hers, royal dos and don’ts, moving and refurbishing a new home, all under the pressure of the worlds’ eyes. Give them a break!

vigdis Sat 06-Apr-19 05:58:54

Well said Marylou1977

The spiteful comments on here are like the mean and nasty observations made by the DM readership.
Boy, have people got it in for this woman... and for Harry for having married her!
I suspect a lot of the tittle-tattle about the couple is embelished in order to keep the malice boiling - which of course promotes the paper ... probably the whole point of the exercise.
And I don't even care for Royalty! Just sad to see what a mean and spiteful country we appear to be these days.

What a lot of fuss about 2 light weight minor members of the Royal family, who act and are, merely, 'celebrities' photogenic, but not of much importance.

vigdis Sat 06-Apr-19 07:12:38

... "minor members" they may be, but there is sufficient interest for the tabloids (one in particular) to scrape the barrel and dig out any tidbits to offer up to a (seemingly) ravenous readership who just can't get enough of the Wills-Kate-Harry-Meghan soap.
Bread and circuses...

M0nica Sat 06-Apr-19 07:48:07

Just ignore it. There are people 'out there' who get excited about conspiracies to conceal from us that the world is really flat, not round.

Anja Sat 06-Apr-19 07:48:35

Marylou vigdis and others who deplore such nastiness, jealousy and sheer vindictiveness...some of these comments remind me of the old hags who used to sit knitting, and watching Madame La Guillotine do her job.

Annecan Sat 06-Apr-19 08:33:57

Harry seemed at one point to be quite good person, but now!
He has been sucked into a celebrity cult and has forgotten his role as a dignified representative of our country.
He appears to be no more than a jet setter and married playboy.
As for Megan, God help us...preaching women's rights...who on earth does she think she is
I think their actions are obscene and totally hypocritical.

Anniebach Sat 06-Apr-19 08:41:36

She had to get use to marriage ? This is her second , and this couple are in their late 30’s not teenagers , as for refurbishing their new house, what a strain ?

Annecan Sat 06-Apr-19 08:44:54

If they put themselves out there, acting in the way they are(privileged, entitled, pampered, and on Instagram!) the they are setting themselves up for comments and opinions from people who dislike their actions and are disappointed in what should be a dignified royal couple.
If they provoke strong feelings it is because they choose to act in a certain way...of course we respond , and of course a lot of us are very unhappy ....it's not jealousy of vindictiveness...its deep disappointment, particularly at their hypocritical actions.

Think I’ll stay for a week.

Ilovecheese Sat 06-Apr-19 10:57:38

Spot on Anja

Callistemon Sat 06-Apr-19 11:35:21

I think that Harry has his heart in the right place - I'm thinking of his obvious delight at meeting Daphne Dunne again, the elderly Australian woman he first met many years ago in the crowd, and understand he kept in touch with her right up until her death a week ago.

Anniebach Sat 06-Apr-19 11:35:35

Anja ilovecheese. You never , ever criticise?

alchemilla Sat 06-Apr-19 11:41:57

Another here thinking 90% of the stuff punted out is clickbait from the tabloids inciting the casual anti-foreigner sometimes racist reaction. I suspect the Instagram site is more an attempt to control what's put out, though I doubt it'll work. Buck Pal rarely if ever contradicts tittle tattle - only occasionally going after people eg photographer who took pix of Kate topless. And then you get the trolls - was it 12 of them identified as responsible for hundreds of shit-stirring and inaccurate posts on the DM site and others? Busy little bees.

Callistemon Sat 06-Apr-19 11:45:57

They certainly cheered up this old lady

vigdis Sat 06-Apr-19 11:46:52

How can anyone possibly be "very unhappy" because they think this couple are not being "dignified" enough!

The media are deliberately highlighting the antics of (as someone earlier said) "minor royals". They haven't killed anyone, abused anyone, advocated harm. For goodness' sake!

I'm pretty sure the greatest damage to our country is being done by our rpreaentatives in Parliament - all of them.

The Redtops don't like Markle and frankly nothing will ever meet with their approval - the woman is not your traditional upper class Madonna. There will be a steady drip, drip of poison from these so that we continue to inspect and deplore everything this couple do. The Press are basically stirring the pot. Gossip, gossip, malicious gosspit... that's what it is, and it's unedifying.

MM is not above criticism... but articles, photo's... reams and reams of them every other day? I despair.

Anniebach Sat 06-Apr-19 11:51:24

Reams and reams ? I wouldn’t know, don’t bother with following them in the press

vigdis Sat 06-Apr-19 12:13:56

@Anniebach
You don't need to "follow them in the press". I don't "follow them" either, you only need to visit these papers from time to time to see the extensive coverage.

As a Republican I don't take much interest in Royalty, but I do look at newspapers from both right and left wing, and I do know when I'm being manipulated by the press to think a certain way, and I will not be part of the gossip-mongering that IMO wants to drag this woman - and Harry - down, regardless of my feelings about the Monarchy.

Anniebach Sat 06-Apr-19 12:38:54

So the photographs posted by Callistrmon are attacks and cause you dispair ?

vigdis Sat 06-Apr-19 12:42:39

MOnica

I had to laugh at your comment about the flat earthers grin

I know I should ignore the sleaze in the red tops, but I hate to see anyone - even my 'enemies' being verbally 'mobbed' and targeted. It can lead to some very nasty and dark places. The vulture elements in the Press can literally hound people to death, and I think it is both dangerous and ugly to continually put the spotlight on MM and Harry and encourage the spiteful and vitriolic comments - I've only read a few such comments, but that was enough.

vigdis Sat 06-Apr-19 12:49:20

No Anniebach (sigh) . I think you know exactly what I'm saying about the media, so please stop trying to trip me up.
