My British Values. (You can't just hi-ack them Leavers)

Leavers seem to think they are the only people who represent Britain. They constantly talk about taking control and being British. But their British values are not mine. So I'm posting mine here. They don't match Brexit in fact some of them are directly opposed to it.
1.Democracy (which means we are permitted to challenge all you say and fight to rejoin)
2. Welcoming. (Britain has always taken in those who need help from the Hugenots to the Kindertransport and should continue to do so.)
3. Tolerance (No one in this country should be treated differently regardless of where they were born or their beliefs)
4. Support and care for the weakest (through government, through charities in this country and elsewhere)
There's 4 to start with.

I think quizqueen is referring more to the huge numbers of young men who attempt to get to the UK, not refugee families with children. The young men have left their families behind, so presumably they are not in danger.

GillT57 Mon 03-Feb-20 12:21:40

I think Quizqueen is really Katie Hopkins.

Yennifer Mon 03-Feb-20 13:42:47

Sorry that's no sense x

Iam64 Mon 03-Feb-20 14:00:27

quiz queen, I have to ask, have you worked with refugees and asylum seekers? Do you know of of these groups of people.

I've some experience through work and more recently via health carer assistants who were supporting friends in end of life care in their own homes. There wasn't one white British carer. There were some local women, from our established Pakistani Muslim community. The others were from various war torn parts of Africa. They had achieved settled status so they were able to work. The compassion and care they provided was excellent.

I find your approach to this attitude cold and I wonder if it's ill informed.

Oh dear, you were doing so well up until that last sentence. Why the personal attack? - Why not stick to your factual evidence?

GrannyGravy13 Mon 03-Feb-20 14:28:19

I do have experience of young male refugees, our dear friends have housed and assisted many, got them into education and in two cases they are in university.

They have also had males claiming to be 15/16 who were eventually identified as being early twenties.

It is such as shame that these "Values" do not include respectful debate. hmm

ananimous Mon 03-Feb-20 14:35:48

One-Upmanship is not a "value" - imo

GrannyGravy13 Mon 03-Feb-20 14:38:46

Chestnut if the young men are gay they are definitely in danger of being hanged, beheaded or stoned to death.

Callistemon Mon 03-Feb-20 15:02:47

The four values you mention are good ones trisher and part of being British.
I don't see any reason why British values should not continue.

1 Democracy is still in evidence and no reason why it should not continue as usual

2. Welcoming. (Britain has always taken in those who need help from the Hugenots to the Kindertransport and should continue to do so.)
The two you mention were many years ago and, interestingly, two examples of refugees from oppression in Europe.
I hope, too, that we will continue to treat refugees with care and compassion and not just leave them to fend for themselves as happens in some countries.

3 Tolerance I wonder if social media has a lot to do with the perception that we are more intolerant now? I think that, with some exceptions, most people we meet in RL are in fact as tolerant as ever - not all were and not all are now but I think the majority are.

4 Support and care for the weakest should continue. As for charitable causes, the British public have always proved to be very generous with their money and their time.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 03-Feb-20 15:05:11

Callistemon totally agree with your post.

Callistemon Mon 03-Feb-20 15:09:02

Just another thought - if all nations were as democratic and tolerant as the UK there may well be no asylum seekers or refugees.

Yennifer Mon 03-Feb-20 15:47:35

British values are literally Democracy, individual liberty, tolerance and respect x

trisher Mon 03-Feb-20 15:55:56

Callistemon if all nations were as democratic and tolerant as the UK there may well be no asylum seekers or refugees
If we stopped interfering in other countries there might well be less refugees as well. As it is we use the Middle East as a sort of war playground.
Does anyone else feel that Dominic Cummings may well be a threat to democracy in the UK?

Nezumi65 Mon 03-Feb-20 16:15:06

Yes. I can’t quite work out what motivates Cummings. Johnson is transparent (& not that clever). Cummings is the power - but who knows for what cause. Given his previous public comments about the Tory party he isn’t keen on them. Yet he’s probably controlling the Party.

Did you see the weekend news about his network of spies in expensive restaurants near Westminster. It made me giggle all weekend - senior politician and special advisors having to meet elsewhere in case someone snitched on them to Cummings.

Nezumi65 Mon 03-Feb-20 16:15:45

More accurate to say controlling the parliamentary Party maybe

pinkquartz Mon 03-Feb-20 16:26:05

I want to add another to the list of four.
I want to add that women are always treated equal to men.
Never let men dominate or abuse a girl or a woman because men are not better than women.

Hetty58 Mon 03-Feb-20 16:31:59

Trisher, your post makes no sense whatsoever. Many (if not most) of us share your listed values. They have nothing to do with leaving or remaining!

Callistemon Mon 03-Feb-20 17:30:45

trisher I do agree that it is our interference that has caused some of the unrest in a misguided attempt to bring democracy to the Middle East.
We should have had more sense.

What a load of tosh quiz queen talks about refugees, I just can't be bothered to answer such a load of old c... today.

Callistemon Tue 04-Feb-20 18:17:19

Is it just me who keeps misreading the title of the OP?

merlotgran Tue 04-Feb-20 18:21:26

I keep thinking Maw ought to have been along by now and tutted it should be those leavers. grin

lucywinter Tue 04-Feb-20 18:35:05

It's a case of Eats Shoots and Leaves too.

Pantglas2 Tue 04-Feb-20 18:44:53

Apart from the missing letter, I thought it just needed a comma after ‘them’ rather than change of word.
