It's worth checking every day as they are trying to take on more vans and drivers all the time.
One day I could get a slot for weeks. I tried again a couple of days later and got a delivery the next day.
Waitrose ask if you are over 65 or vulnerable but it doesn't mean that you get a slot.
Most of them have numbers you can ring if you are. Just keep tryi g every couple of days. They are doing their best. I even got most of my order and reasonable substitutes.

I fear the breakdown of law and order on top of everything else. Just read Boris has received a positive diagnosis.

I also think it’s best not to spend too much time on GN at the moment. Read a book instead, FaceTime your family, do some exercise, indoors if need be, watch a film, sit in the garden if you can and get some sun. We’re all worried, we all have specific issues and concerns, and some may find support and help here. But it’s really not helpful or healthy to spend too much time reading about worst case scenarios, what if, what if, and the neuroses of others. We need to look after our mental, as well as our physical, health.

Supermarkets are idiots! By keeping vulnerable people from getting deliveries they are FORCING US to go out,even if we should NOT,i think its so we will buy more when we are in there,just same as always!- yes you can get only 2 or 3 of things,BUT if we buy 2/3 of several more items than we would normally get,then thats a whole load of lining their pockets,isnt it?(Tesco have announced an 80 item ban on your shop today though.)But what of people who have a big family,how does that help them?? Theres no right answer to any of this situation

Just about to dig out the Milton tablets I use for the shower head. Up to now have tried not to stress about wiping deliveries down but after reading these posts may become a bit more careful without becoming neurotic. Next Click & Collect next Friday, so time to plan and also live without fresh vegetables too. We have a big barn near the house so all deliveries go there for three days isolation.

Nannan2 that thought has struck me too about not getting rid of this disease. Isolation isn't long enough by far. Some borders are still open and all flights were never grounded-----which is the only way of being sure that nobody still has the virus. The only problem left would be the carriers who don't have symptoms.

dragonfly: in your place I would phone Boots and complain about the messenger boy's behaviour. He obviously hasn't understood the precautions he has been told to take.

annodomini: I think you are referring to potassium permanganate, but check with a chemist. I know it was used as a disinfectant before the days of M&B and penicillian.

Does anyone know if the corona virus is killed off by putting things in the freezer? I haven't been able to find that information, and not all vira are killed off in a deep freeze. Samonella survives happily there.

Tillybelle; your advice is sound and has calmed me down a little bit (for now). I don't think I will feel safe until my partner sends his staff home as his office is on the side of the house. This means everything they touch, I to will be touching indirectly. I am auto-immune so quite vunerable. When I try to talk to him about it he gets cross and says I am over-reacting. We have children and Grand-children. I would be grateful for any advice.

In 1945 I had scarlet fever and was in an isolation hospital for 3 weeks with just that alone. Family home including my bedroom was fumigated before I was discharged from hospital.

No doubt it is scary but we must try not to panic as that will do no good. I tell myself that loads of people will get it and die but loads of people won't get it so I must do everything I can to make sure we are in the latter group by minimising all risks. A professor online said to regard everything coming to or through your door as being a potential risk even the mail. So all post is moved to oneside with a grabber and left there unopened for 3 days, grocery deliveries are put in the dining room wearing disposable gloves and if possible left there. If not I wash milk bottles in washing up solution before putting them in the fridge, vegetables are rinsed well in a jet of running water as advised and then well cooked. I wash my hands all the time even after taking the gloves off. I don't regard this as neurotic or paranoid just being wise and taking all precautions one possibly can.

We live in a large block of flats with mainly retired residents. Several people have underlying conditions. All delivery men are stopping at the door and supermarkets are delivering orders in plastic bags. The residents are all avoiding getting into lifts with other people but my main concern is visitors being let in to the building and people who use the flats as a holiday/weekend home coming down from London. As far as I know only one person has a nurse and carers making regular visits.

Gagsville-is your OH supposed to have shut down by now? Or is he in one of the 'allowed' categories?

I have contact with my daughter who comes home to her family after working with covid19 patients each night. She is a frontline nurse who is doing a good job and I worry more about her than I do about things being delivered to my home. If you don’t approve of delivery people go to the pharmacy and collect it yourself

I’ve never used bleach inside. Not got any now. Bleach is horrible and leaves bad smell, can ruin clothes and make you ill if it gets onto food stuff. I’ve bought my shopping each week but not washed any packets, boxes etc.
There is no official recommendation to do this as far as I can see. I’m staying home, walking daily but keeping my distance - as anyone I’ve seen has also been doing. Having spoken on the phone to friends and family, none of us are neurotic - yet!
I guess some people may find some reassurance in constant cleaning but I doubt it will make much difference. Once you cleaned obvious surfaces, there’s no point in doing them again. Unless you’re not socially distancing, going out to various shops throughout the day and letting people cough over you. For those of you not yet overdoing it, just be sensible and find something else to dwell on.

Soap and water is the very best thing, better than disinfectant sprays for virus as opposed to bacteria. Liquid soap not so good. See Which website.

No, I'm not neurotic. I'm self isolating and that's it. What about freezer stuff? Can't see anything about freezer stuff. Today, I will have fish from the freezer ...

If you really went overboard thinking about this, there would be no end to your anxieties. I am just taking moderate measures hygiene wise and leaving it at that. You can never eradicate all the ‘germs’ there are around us-nor would we want to otherwise we would have no immunity to anything, Could the virus continue to exist in a freezer anyway? (seeing comments about putting stuff in there).

All post and parcels are cleaned with antibacterial wipes before they come into the house . My daughter works in a supermarket and has to strip in the garden and go straight in the shower and her uniform put straight into the wash . I would be rather be safe than sorry .

OMG! I wasn't feeling neurotic til I read all this! Now I'm thinking I'm not being careful enough! We are high risk (letter from hospital) but hadn't even thought of washing veg in soapy water - doesnt cooking it destroy the nasties then? Guess I need to stop gardening and catching up on books and jigsaws and sewing , Zooming my grandchildren and generally enjoying the solitude, and start scrubbing and bleaching everything in sight - probably twice - won't do the lovely manicure I gave myself yesterday much good though! Any ideas as to how I manage the cat? She doesn't know the words to Happy Birthday!
