I think this may have come up before but I’m having a go anyway!

I know some of you love the games but I really think they should be in their own section.

13 this morning.

Am I alone?

Kim19 Thu 27-May-21 09:18:17

Ixion, you have made me smile. Thank you. Full points for trying. Stony ground I'm afraid.......

FannyCornforth Thu 27-May-21 09:11:19

The only workable solution from GNHQ's perspective, would be to totally hide Games threads from the Active list.

This would be the same method that MNHQ use with threads on their Sex subforum, ie they don't show up in Active.

Interestingly, during the torrid first months of the Lockdown, threads on the Staffroom subforum were hidden.
This was because teachers were getting so much abuse.

Ooh, loving the bindweed analogy BlueBelle

I've made this point before, but here goes anyway.
I also think (know) that the proliferation of Games threads on the Active list is the main reason why we get so many duplicate threads.

It is not just the sheer number; it's also the amount and speed of traffic that they attract.

This is particularly evident first thing in the morning. Someone will start a thread early doors about, for example, the reported death of a prominent person.

Before you know it, said thread will slip off the bottom of the Active list; resulting in someone starting a duplicate thread.

Sometimes, depending on the night before's news events, this can result in half a dozen duplicate threads.

To conclude: First world problems and all that.
Nothing will be done about it.

Reporting in - Games appearing in
Last Hour - 0
Last Day - 0
Active - 0.

It is at least 24 hours since I have seen one on the above forums.

FindingNemo15 Thu 27-May-21 08:53:34

I think the games should be on a separate thread too. I get fed up with scrolling down to the topical threads.

Lucca Thu 27-May-21 07:54:38

Correct bluebelle.

BlueBelle Thu 27-May-21 07:46:19

But nansnet surely you must understand that if you only have two forums you are interested in and go straight to them then you won’t see any games threads Most people use GN to read a whole variety of opinions and topics and enjoy dipping in and out of various subjects and the best way to do that is to read your news feed every morning or whenever you go on GN and see what the latest news, and discussions are and dip in and out of those that interest you, however if you newsfeed is clogged with games threads you may well miss interesting discussions
No one is asking to get rid of the games feature, just isolate it so those that enjoy them can use them and those that don’t don’t have to be overrun like bindweed in your garden

Kandinsky Thu 27-May-21 07:39:54

The ( literally) 100’s of games threads are the reason I hardly come on GN anymore.

H1954 Thu 27-May-21 07:21:14

Oooh! New game for GN! 'Count the number of games' game! ?

FannyCornforth Thu 27-May-21 07:16:50

Grumppa I can't believe that someone reported a limerick of all things!
How funny!

Nansnet Thu 27-May-21 06:38:19

Sorry, that should read, "I've already noticed that there is a 'Games forum'

Nansnet Thu 27-May-21 06:35:14

I'm guessing most of you must navigate the threads by going to active threads/latest/currently trending, so if the 'gamers' are pretty active then you are going to get mostly games threads at the top of the list.

I've never had an issue, as I always go straight to 'Forums', and simply choose one the 'Forum Topics' which I like to look at regularly ... usually 'AIBU', 'Ask a Gran' and 'Grandparenting'. I've never seen any games threads on any of those. Only recently have I looked at the 'Chat' thread, and participated in a little game for the first time, which I found quite entertaining.

I've also noticed that there already is a 'Games' thread, so I guess the posters who start games threads should try to remember to post them there, instead of posting them on other threads where people like to have discussions. I don't understand why those at GNHQ can't simply divert any games threads to the 'Games Forum' ...hmm

CanadianGran Wed 26-May-21 23:20:25

I agree. I always click on "Active" to see what is going on, and usually there are over 20 games threads. Also because I am in a different time zone, I miss a lot of discussions since the nighttime gamers push all the interesting threads off the board.

If someone posts in the evening, it could very well be that their thread is not noticed because of all the games taking over during the night.

Esspee Wed 26-May-21 22:57:59

How many times do we have to ask for such a simple thing before anything is done?
Surely those who like word games would love to have a section devoted to them while those who find them a source of irritation need never see them again.
It’s a win win situation.

Personally the improvement I’d like to see most is all the OP’s contributions highlighted.

grumppa Wed 26-May-21 22:10:02

I daren’t say. I might be re-reported!

NanKate Wed 26-May-21 22:00:01

Was your Limerick naughty Grumppa? ?

grumppa Wed 26-May-21 21:40:18

Mostly I just use Last Hour and I’m On (there’s vain!). The only time I took part in a game thread (a limerick) I was reported, so I am happy to scroll past and leave them to others.

Can’t see the problem.

LovelyCuppa Wed 26-May-21 21:25:15

I think you would get more people posting if the active topics wasn't mainly games. All the games leave few spaces for other topics so it looks like it's not a very active site and there's not much going on.

Namsnanny Wed 26-May-21 21:20:32

I dont like them popping to the top all the time lemongrove!
I understand I'm lazy but scrolling through them is a bit of a pain blush

So Yes I agree with th OP

Floradora9 Wed 26-May-21 21:02:42

Yes yes yes

lemongrove Wed 26-May-21 20:58:26

Games are as viable as any other subject on GN ( some would like to hide politics and news ?) and if games are the most popular then so be it.
Not exactly difficult to find other topics is it.

NanKate Wed 26-May-21 20:39:39

I think if the games were separated out there wouldn’t be many threads left.

GrandmaKT Wed 26-May-21 20:34:07

I agree about keeping the games separate.

BlueBelle Wed 26-May-21 20:12:39

Why do mobile uses have to change to desktop and vice versa it’s all so tedious and time consuming and pointless

Grannynannywanny Wed 26-May-21 20:11:37

Kim19 I agree, I dip in and out of the games and find them an enjoyable distraction from other trials and tribulations in my day. I seem to gravitate to them at bedtime to try to clear my head for sleeping.

I only look at a few but I know just a couple of folk participating keeps the thread active and it’s not everyone’s cup of tea.

I’d be happy for them to be grouped together somewhere easy to find. I’d also like to see a room 101 sub section where all the endless threads about Meghan and Harry could be diverted ?
