If 'that's all you need to do' why have still so many folk caught covid, and are still doing so?despite taking vitamins &'fresh air' folk are still catching it, passing it, and yes, dying from it??

I totally agree with you Nannan2, it’s naive and ignorant to believe the 128,000+ dead and the hundred of thousands suffering with long Covid were all unhealthy people who spent their lives indoors not having healthy diets and lifestyles - sadly I know of three dead who were all healthy and lived good lifestyles with perfectly good immune systems !

Frankly that's hardly the point. Doing what you do has protected you and others.
Also it's been well reported that these big events are research experiments to see how I'll people get in these conditions ( there have been comments by senior medics in the press that this fact has not been adequately explained to those attending).
So, please keep up the good work - it's so important

You have to protect yourself and your family not copy idiots who get themselves infected. In Australia they reckon it only takes 5 seconds to catch Delta from someone you’ve just passed in the street so even having had the vaccination I’m keeping my mask and staying away from crowded places.

Yes. And because their contact tracing system is so good they know exactly how and why the new variant is spreading. I just hope Australia does manage to contain the infection as I’m seriously worried for them.

I will still be wearing masks, can't understand people that don't do it just to make a point, still carry gel, which I use, wash my hands etc, to me anyone who doesn't follow the guidelines deserve to get covid, I feel sorry for the family, friends etc, they pass it on to. That's my view on this.

I’m seeing more and more people not wearing masks in shops.
My daughter wears a lanyard because she finds it very difficult to breath with one after having pleurisy some months ago: she has never been challenged for wearing it.
One of my elderly neighbours asked me to order one on eBay.
She uses the bus a lot and has never been challenged.

This pretending to be exempt really annoys me. It is selfish snd places others at risk. 80% of the protection they afford is to others, 20% to the mask wearer. A mask does not interfere with breathing whether or not a person has had pleurisy a couple of months ago! I have asthma, as do two other members of my family. We all wear masks with no problems. If they caused any issues with breathing, how would NHS staff manage to work in them for 12 hour shifts? ?

Sago if you intend to break the law, why announce it publicly? Are you hoping you can persuade others to join you? Inducement makes it more of a crime than simply breaking the law yourself, so be careful.

Face masks do help, I do get cross when people make unfounded comments without checking their facts.

Yep, throw your masks away and breathe on everybody as you wish. Then, when we are forced back into lockdown because the latest vaccination avoiding mutation of the virus has taken off you can complain vociferously about how the Government are restricting your freedom and how they didn't act forcefully enough to halt the virus in its tracks.

It's amazing how few people know about home testing when we are supposed to be doing them twice a week. A real lack of communication. My family are all doing them as a matter of course.

Sago I do believe it is still law to wear a mask indoors in a public place, so you don’t have a choice at the moment.

All of these events where people are mixing, are outdoors, and put in place and carefully monitored afterwards as a test to see if we can move forward, they are not just some random groups of 45,000 people who fancy watching a football game.
We have all made sacrifices over the past 18 months and we are nearing the end of only people can just hang in there and not book trips to Harry Potter world when their children are sent home to isolate and carry on following the rules for just a while longer❤️

We are not anywhere near ‘nearing the end’, unfortunately, Scentia. We need to keep going. The next mutation or variant may be the one that defies the vaccine or our immune systems. It’s going to be a long haul.

Even if they are formally ditched in the next couple of weeks, I shall continue to wear them. We’ve a long way to go on a bumpy road and I fear that Johnson’s optimism is misplaced. No one wishes I am wrong more than I do!

As a scientist and as someone who's DIL has had Covid despite 2 jabs I fully intend to keep wearing a mask and taking great care for the sake of others as well as myself.

Nearly 2000 Scots tested positive after attending Euro football matches. It remains to be seen whether the risk was worth it. I won’t be abandoning my mask in the foreseeable future

I couldn’t give a stuff what football fans are doing , test event or not. I only care about doing MY part. I will continue to wear a mask in an indoor setting for some time yet. I’ve gone 18 months with not a hint of a cough or cold and plan on keeping it that way.

I think indoor mask wearing is for the greater good and that’s good enough for me.

I haven’t worn a mask for at least two months and I carry a lanyard. There have been several scientific studies which have proved beyond doubt that masks do not protect you from viral particles, they are two tiny. It’s like trying to catch sand in a football net. Furthermore, they don’t do you a lot of good because you are re-inhaling some of the carbon dioxide and bacteria that your body is trying to get rid of.However, if you feel safer when wearing one, then that’s what you should do. I think everyone should have freedom of choice.

Professor Mike Yeadon, ex Pfizer VP, whose specialises in immunology and virology, has stated on many occasions that Covid variants never deviate more than around 3% of the original and if you have immunity to the original virus, your own immune will recognise any variants. You have to remember that members of the Sage group who are constantly advising further restrictions and booster jabs for variants, have, in many instances, financial links to the pharmaceutical companies & others, who have vested interests in keeping the pandemic going.

My young teenager wears his mask in school most of the time, occasionally taking it of at his desk when he can’t stand it any longer. He always wears it in shops but generally avoids them. He doesn’t have to wear one. His asthma makes him exempt. He chooses to, to do his best to protect us, his older brothers and his little nephew who is vulnerable. Last week he was saying that the hot weather was making it very difficult but he felt he should do his best.

…….. and then, you see the football and Wimbledon and worse, Matt Hancock having …… well, failing to socially distance with Boris saying “no worries” and I wonder why we we bother. However, I personally, will keep on keeping on for the greater good. My son will be dispensing with his mask.

Although it was a highly regulated event , for the rest of us the message can be confusing. Not easy to see so many people in a carefree 'normal' environment when most others are still being asked to be cautious. I think events like that send out an inappropriate message but I do understand that we have to try and move on. I'll still be wearing my mask in shops and galleries etc and as someone else said they can also prevent us getting colds and flu. I won't be eating in busy restaurants indoors or going to an indoors dance class etc for a while and I am concerned that we will be having more lockdown in the autumn, if not sooner. So I am enjoying the summer weather and just taking it one day at a time and having gratitude for the good things in my life.

I’m going to continue wearing a mask for as long as I wish regardless of whether it’s legal or not. If it reduces transmission of COVID, flu and other illnesses I’m all for it. How wonderful it’s been not to have had even a cold in the past 16 months. I’m happy to protect my family & friends. We’ve all worked so hard to stop the spread of infection let’s try to maintain that without more severe measures like full lockdown

This pandemic has really shown how selfish many, many people are!
