Wembley this evening, no more masks for me..

45,000 footballs fans in Wembley stadium this evening shouting, hugging and cheering.
Some shirtless, all maskless.

I have been dutifully wearing a mask, I’ve nearly frozen having windows and doors open whilst having work people in the home, buried my mother with only a handful of mourners present and my son and fiancé have postponed their wedding until next year.

No more mask for me, they are all going in the bin.

Philippa: it does make you appreciate simple things like a sunny day or a beautiful sunset, doesn’t it….

I know how you feel it’s annoying. I actually feel a little safer wearing a mask so may continue to do so even when they say we can relax them! At the moment though we don’t have a choice!

So, we are world leading once again in the UK, with our infection rates exceeding the rest of the EU countries put together - yes I know hospitalisations and death rates are lower.
But - people may still fall ill, unable to work, and that impacts the economy - so how is the UK making the best use of the highly successful vaccination programme?

It’s a government trial for mass gatherings.

So why were they reluctant to publish the results of the Liverpool events then.

I'm guessing that we are unlikely to see any results from the so called "test events" of Wembley or Wimbledon.

Fully agree Stella14 - my wife's brother in law has COPD, and he wears a mask - I suspect much of the lanyard wearing approach is down to vanity and/or selfishness.

We are wearing our masks and most people in shops are. What is the point of giving up now with this new variant on the rampage and the school holidays about to begin? We will be keeping away from all attractions just like the last 18 months.

GrowingOldDisgracefully - you commented:

.... cheap rubbish masks from China ....

You do know that most of what you use, buy, wear - like your laptop or mobile phone, is actually made in China.

They are now building a battery factory in Sunderland for Nissan's electric cars - so I guess they are cheap rubbish products too?

It said on the news that Ian Duncan Smith (failed party leader but he seems to have forgotten it) wants infection and death rates to no longer be published each day because (albeit being true and accurate) they ‘scare people’. Is he a member of the Covid Recovery Group by any chance I wonder. But I bet they’ll still want to publish the vaccination rates because if they didn’t Johnson wouldn’t be able to slip the word ‘vaccination’ into every comment he makes. Especially at PMQT even when not even being asked a question about the pandemic.

Test results from Wembley.

Wimbledon's just started so I guess we'll have to wait a bit.

railman don’t worry WHO have issued a warning that Europe is starting a fourth wave so we won’t be on our own.

I’d rather be looking at positives personally.

MayBee70 Thu 01-Jul-21 14:00:18

Is Europe starting a fourth wave due to the U.K. letting the Delta variant in by any chance?

I don't have to agree with the policies to continue to try and protect myself, my family, and those I come into contact with. I will continue to wear masks and nobody will be entering my home without one.

Flakesdayout Thu 01-Jul-21 14:08:42

I suffer quite badly with hay fever and went out yesterday with my mask on as I went into a shop. I struggled to breathe but my mask stayed on. I will be keeping mine on - it is not worth the risk and I feel safer wearing it and protecting others.

Sago l know its annoying but for now if going shopping or indoor eating you need it.l hold no truck with this government and project fear! But l do as asked mask wise so l can get on with life the rest l ignore. The Government i" do as l say ,not as l do "policy has worn thin with me.

helenmabr Thu 01-Jul-21 14:27:07

Well don’t be surprised when you catch something then!

GrannyGear Thu 01-Jul-21 14:28:07

I don't enjoy wearing a mask and I doubt if they are much use - for ordinary folk - it's different for medical personel treating Covid patients. I wear it because I'm told to, but only when going into shops/cafes etc. When walking or cycling in the open air by myself I'm glad to remove it. It's uncomfortable and awkward and I constantly want to scratch my nose. I can't use my glasses effectively. There are plenty of other procedures I don't like but endure because they are necessary - eg injections.

chattykathy Thu 01-Jul-21 14:29:18

I'm ordering N95 masks because if other people aren't going to wear any masks then I want to protect myself. If it's just me wearing a mask I'm protecting others but they're not protecting me.

football first ,lives second, all very sad

SooozedaFlooze Thu 01-Jul-21 14:50:43

I don't get it how everyone was tested & jabbed but so many have come back with Covid.. Just does not make sense

Kaggi60 Thu 01-Jul-21 14:59:50

I waiting for 2 operations and if people dont wear mask and dont have the jabs. I think very are felish i have had friends die from covid. Have not been out of the house yet only to appoinments hope people will wear till we are a bit clearer.

Jang Thu 01-Jul-21 15:12:27

Cases do not equal hospitalisations/deaths as far as I am aware! With so many shop assistants not wearing masks but still being close it makes a mockery of it and in any case they don't work and can harbour more germs. I say enough is enough: if G7 can get away with it then so can I. Also haven't other big events been held previously with no masks and no rises in infection recorded? I am fed up with being made to feel like a bio'hazard and not a human being.......

Gae46 Thu 01-Jul-21 15:17:48

I don't know about throwing masks out I have hay fever and I've found them very handy when working in the garden. They certainly have helped.

growstuff Thu 01-Jul-21 15:19:53

What evidence do you have that masks don't work? How do you know that there wouldn't be an increase in transmission without them? They're not 100% effective, but even simple ones reduce the spread of infected droplets, which is how Covid mainly spreads.

GrandmaMia1 Thu 01-Jul-21 15:20:32

How very foolish! The increase in Covid rates in schools has increased since the wearing of masks is no longer compulsory.
The 'Swiss Cheese Model' is the way, I do not understand why you are choosing not to wear a mask. Will you be expecting the NHS to look after you if you become ill?
Selfish stupidity!
