Lush and a company called Gender swap are offering young girls chest binders which they can collect without their parents knowing .This can damage chests and ribs but from the comments on Lush page the girls are flocking to buy these.. Sounds dangerous.

What is the obsession on this board about safeguarding children.

Calistemon Wed 10-Nov-21 20:52:59

Galaxy

What is the obsession on this board about safeguarding children.

I take it you think that's wrong?

Galaxy Wed 10-Nov-21 20:53:23

Also beyond words that when other cultures do it that's horrific but when western countries do it that's fine.

Calistemon Wed 10-Nov-21 20:54:42

Hithere

What is the obsession of this board with conforming to the gender you are born into?

Adults can choose to be whatever they want to be.

Galaxy Wed 10-Nov-21 20:54:45

I was being sarcastic calistemon. I think this board talks about this because they think safeguarding is important. I agree with that concept smile

VioletSky Wed 10-Nov-21 20:56:19

People have mentioned the potential damage they can do. This is reduced by using a proper made for purpose binder rather than a home made one. Also, the same sorts of damage are caused by badly fitting bras.

welbeck Wed 10-Nov-21 20:58:09

Hithere, are you saying that the ends justify the means.
what about possible bodily harm.
let alone psychological, when there is already so much pressure on young girls re their bodies, and issues of confidence.
this may also tap into those who veer towards anorexia nervosa,
trying to suppress the natural development of the body, shew any curves etc.
do you not see any problem with it at all ?

Smileless2012 Wed 10-Nov-21 20:59:39

So the potential damage is reducedhmmnot good enough IMO, not nearly good enough.

I don't know what happened there, Galaxy, I thought it was Hithere who had posted that. A fast-moving thread!

Yes, I agree, safeguarding is of paramount importance, more important than any woke ideas and way above any profits Lush might think they can make from jumping on this particular bandwagon.

I hope their stores are boycotted for their exploitation of children..

Sigh

Chewbacca Wed 10-Nov-21 21:51:17

Sigh indeed Callistemon, but not surprised.

nanna8 Wed 10-Nov-21 21:58:49

I’ve never heard of this, Australia tends to be a bit behind some of theses ‘trends’. In this case I am glad. Reminds me of the stays and liberty bodices they had way back when, albeit with a different aim ( or perhaps not ?)

Hithere Wed 10-Nov-21 21:59:53

What about heels then?

Should they be forbidden too?

MissAdventure Wed 10-Nov-21 22:04:02

I wouldn't want a child of mine being given heels to wear for hours every day, by an organisation I had never heard of, by people I'd never met.
My child, my rules, and the saying goes.

Chewbacca Wed 10-Nov-21 22:07:02

High heels vs chest binders? In what parallel universe is that the same?

Calistemon Wed 10-Nov-21 22:07:07

Hithere

Heels?
What's that all about?

Hithere Thu 11-Nov-21 00:37:20

Heels are proven to be super harmful and detrimental for health.

Shall they be banned too?

MissAdventure Thu 11-Nov-21 00:59:28

They should be for adults to decide upon.
Not given out to children.

Hithere Thu 11-Nov-21 01:20:18

The reality is that heels are available for minors,, just socially acceptable.

This is another transphobic thread

nanna8 Thu 11-Nov-21 01:23:41

Transphobic? Wha? Where did that come me from?

grannydarkhair Thu 11-Nov-21 02:40:07

Much though I find this abhorrent, it is preferable to young healthy girls opting to have double mastectomies. Scottish doctors have sent at least 51 girls/young women to England to have this operation done within the last few years. I have no figures for English or Welsh referrals.
How many of these young women might have accepted they were lesbians or even heterosexual if they had been given time to mature and reflect.
There is a growing chain of thought that exposure to porn is/can be involved in this. Young girls seeing porn and how abjectly the women in heterosexual porn are treated then think “I don’t want to be a woman if that’s what it involves”.
When I first heard this theory I was sceptical but as more and more trans boys and men de-transition, porn and how it portrays women is mentioned by virtually all of them.
Re. Lush and it’s partners; although Stonewall (and perhaps Mermaids) is not mentioned, I’m very confident they will be involved in this.

welbeck Thu 11-Nov-21 05:27:59

Hithere, do you really not see any ethical issues in all this.

GrannyMacawell Thu 11-Nov-21 07:13:14

So we should let girls do this and support them in damaging themselves. If we don't we are transphobic?

I hope Lush fails as a business for this. how the f**k did we get here. ..The absolute hate for women and girls is off the scale.

Oh don’t be ridiculous

Lucca Thu 11-Nov-21 07:42:14

However I don’t think it is being promoted as something specifically to be done without parental consent.
