I enjoyed watching the film ‘Grease’ on Sunday afternoon - it brought back memories of a lovely time in my life. I was concerned to find that the following day, according to several newspapers there was a storm of protest on Twitter calling the film misogynistic and all manner of other accusations - ultimately calling for it to be banned from transmission on TV. Is this what we’ve come to ?

Fabulous film, I remember going with my girls to see it. Happy memories.

You can`t beat a good film and Grease is just that, perfect entertainment.
As for those faceless idiots who think it should be banned, get a bluddy life.

I wish they would stop pulling apart these iconic productions for no reason.
The producers won't have tears on their pillows as it is the highest grossing musical of all times.

Toxic woke flakes? Dear oh dear. Love a tolerant poster ……

Ten of us, three generations, are doing to see the stage show next month, we will all be singing along I’m sure.

I have no problem with these films being shown but, as entertaining educational tools... This is what we leave behind, not glamour to aspire too.

MissAdventure Wed 06-Apr-22 14:54:09

I very much doubt anyone aspires to it.
I'd look ridiculous in those skin tight shiny leggings that Sandy wears.

Blossoming

It is misogynistic, with the central message being that Sandy has to turn herself into a tarty male fantasy to ‘win her man’. A lot of old films are misogynistic.

I don’t like musicals, but it’s your choice if you want to watch it.

I can remember not wanting my young DD to see it because the message was that, to win the heart of the bad boy, you had to change yourself from nice girl to tarty girl.

Other Mums and I managed it until it came on the TV, was shown on a screen at youth club and all the young teenage girls lapped it up!!

Speak for yourself. I spend hours with the curling tongs every weekend to get the Sandy look. Loads of hairspray too. Because I'm worth it!

Answer was to poster above me.

I meant you Missadventure.
Hopelessly inept GN dropout me.

Do you think I'm a tad too old for them now?
Does my bum look big in these?

MissAdventure Wed 06-Apr-22 15:09:59

I always thought Sandy and Danny met in the middle

He toned down his bad boy attitude, and she decided for herself to loosen up a bit (except in the trouser area)

Just in case anyone feels the need to give someone a fun sponge.

Did anyone see John Travolta on the news this week?
He's filming in Norfolk, been seen in Morrisons and a local cafe and is quite happy to have selfies taken with people.

Now, where are my leather leggings.....

MissAdventure Wed 06-Apr-22 15:12:17

"Do these trousers make my bum look big"?

"Nope, it's not the trousers, love".

Singasong Wed 06-Apr-22 15:15:24

I bet John was buying burgers and ice cream in Morrisons Callistemon21?

Callistemon21 Wed 06-Apr-22 15:17:03

sad

Well, John's not quite as lithe as he was either!

I think he went to Wetherspoons too.

Sara1954 Wed 06-Apr-22 15:18:50

I bought some of those incredibly high heeled sandals Sandy wore, sadly I couldn’t walk in them!
I agree with MissAdventure, they met in the middle.
Anyway, I don’t really think she was tarty, just Super Sexy!

Singasong Wed 06-Apr-22 15:22:12

Hope Wetherspoons do cherry sodas Callistemon21. Danny's tipple.

Blossoming Wed 06-Apr-22 15:40:40

The Exorcist came out around the same time Callistemon and that seems pretty tame now too!

Callistemon21 Wed 06-Apr-22 15:46:06

I used to like cherryade (Corona) Singalong

I've never seen The Exorcist, too scary for me Blossoming!
