How embarrassing ?

I talk to myself while walking my dogs. The other night in darkness we were trotting along the pavement , me talking as usual, suddenly someone appeared from behind, as they walked past they gave me a strange look. I just said loudly to the dogs. " You two know what I'm talking about don't you." I added of "course you do," and carried on with our stroll. I think I'm too old to be embarrassed about most things.

I have always talked to any cat that I come across, love them. I also love being able to wear a mask in the supermarket, now I can sing along to the background music with no embarrassment!

I too have conversations with inanimate objects. I also talk a lot to our dog and cat. Mind the cat does seem to reply sometimes, she is very vocal!

Think we need to give ourself a good talking to sometimes....I had words with hubby before I went to bed last night...Couldn't sleep...Got up made a cuppa and told myself out loud in a stern voice to get up to bed and get to bloomin sleep and stop being so upset.. Things will be fine in the morning and guess what they were

this has happened to me, the work men had been in and out of my house so the door was wedged open, i heard them talking about me out on the landing of my building so i said to them don't worry i am not daft i was talking to my late husband....it was funny how they finished the work very quickly and as they left i said it's okay if it is not done right, he won't complain but i will ......just so you understand i live in a h/a house and they were getting re-furbs with the people still in them and the company doing the work were cheap but not very good.

My DH gets a bit annoyed as he can't always tell when I'm talking to myself or talking to him. He only knows when I as if he's going to answer me or not. He complains he never knows and he probably thinks he's married to a complete nutter. It's good to know so many of us are the same.

Nothing wrong at all with talking to yourself - I do it all the time! At least you won't (often) disagree or answer back. Luckily, I have a little dog and cat!

Best conversations are had with myself

I don’t talk to myself but I do answer quizz questions out loud. Daft but it is as if I have to proof to myself that I know the answer by saying it out loud and hearing it.

If you wear a mask you can even talk to yourself in shops.

Or even sing along to any music that happens to be playing. (I did this in a Cornwall Sainsbury's and as I passed another masked woman, I could hear her doing the same..)

I was in town today and took particular notice of people’s vocal activities. A lot of people talk to themselves, it seems, or else they’re talking to someone on their hidden phone.

Apparently, I hum to myself when I’m shopping. I only discovered this when my teenage daughter asked me to stop. ?

I think lockdown has made everyone more wrapped up in themselves and we've all developed quirky little habits, which don't matter and are quite endearing really. I think a lot of people now do use earphones to talk to people on their phones and it's not immediately obvious that they are doing this.

PS I didn't believe the story about the mobile phone, but it's probably because I can't imagine ever putting my phone in my bra- and also if it was poking above the bra/clothes there is a danger of it falling onto the floor and breaking . It would be so uncomfortable as well.

I wasn’t talking to myself, but to our dog - the usual (for me) extreme baby talk, ‘Mummy love oo!’ etc. Out loud!

I was in a very well wooded part of the nearby park, and (as I thought) completely alone. That is, until I heard the sound of extreme mirth - there were two young blokes up a big tree, absolutely wetting themselves laughing!

Oh, this could so have been me! I feel for you, I truly do!

Well i start off speaking to the cat,whilst am busy in the kitchen, but he eats up & slopes off, leaving me unknowingly speaking to myself??

Only yesterday I was in a shop and someone asked "Are you talking to yourself?" I just said "Oh yes. I do it all the time!"
I also love singing along to the radio but I suspect more than those who have to listen !!

I remember being in my mid twenties, and having just dropped my two young sons off at school, I set off for a walk with our dog.
As I waited to cross the very busy main road, I 'forgot' that the children weren't with me, and did my usual road safety spiel along the lines of, "Make sure there's nothing coming. Check both ways. Right, come on, we can go across now - quickly but don't run", etc.

I felt such a fool, when I realized that I was talking to the dog

That was my first, albeit unintentional, experience of talking to myself.
Nowadays I knowingly do it quite often. As others have said, you get the most sensible answers that way.

If you had one of those ear pieces you could pretend you were talking to someone on the phone! I talk to myself but not aloud. The imaginary cat is funny!

For all he knew you may have been talking on 'hands free' on your mobile. Unless you were asking yourself questions and the 'other you' was answering them. Now that would be weird.

When MrOops went to Australia on his own (I wasn’t well enough to travel) for nearly 4 weeks, I ended up having long conversations with myself, answering myself even arguing with myself.
It stopped when he came home though, but I’m still a bit of a mad lady who talks to herself if I’m on my own for a while, I try to disguise it by pretending it’s a talking part of a song that I’m singing, not sure if anyone is fooled though.

I am afraid I am guilty of answering the self service tills in the supermarkets. Some of them sound like they are nagging. "don't forget to take you receipt" "remember to take all of your shopping" I can't help but say " Ok Ok, I'm going as fast as I can" or "Yes, I am doing that"

Talking to yourself is completely normal-it’s when I answer myself back I get worried ?

Someone once said they spotted me out in my car and that I was singing along to the radio.

I just agreed and silently vowed to stop talking g to muself so much!!!
