AIBU - To feel a tad disappointed

(32 Posts)
maydonoz Tue 12-Apr-22 20:52:53

I have been a GN member for about two years now, although I am not a regular poster, I have been posting mostly at weekends only.
Recently I returned from being abroad for two months and decided to write a post on Sunday last on the Good morning thread.
However, I was left feeling rather disappointed that not even one poster wrote a "welcome back " or "nice to see you posting again" message.
I just felt I was completely ignored and to be honest don't think I'll bother to post on the Good morning thread again.
If a topic of a thread interests me I'll post if I feel like it.
Tha ks for listening.
Over and out.

I think it is probably the same for the majority of posters unfortunately. It is a hard thing to get your head round that posting comments is not like having a conversation with friends all in the same room. I find it very rare that I get a response to anything I post in a thread and when I start a thread I’m often seen as too blunt which gets me a lot of criticism. It’s very disheartening. I also find that there are certain posters who seem to know one another and they go back and forwards together.
I only post on chat as that seems to have the most attention from others.
Anyway welcome back and I hope you keep posting.

I only come on here now and again and others are probably the same. If others post a new thread at the same time as you it can mean your post gets a bit lost in the order of things. I haven't explained very well but I mean that you aren't being deliberately ignored.

snowberryZ Tue 12-Apr-22 21:22:33

I don't know you maydonoz,
But Welcome Back!smile

kittylester Tue 12-Apr-22 21:22:47

I'm sorry you felt like that Mary but please don't take it personally.

I don't treat the GM thread as a discussion thread but more a sort of an update - which was what it was like in the early days. I rarely go back to it after I have done my weather forecast and update and if you were later post I wouldn't have seen it - or lots of other people's posts either. I suspect a lot of us are like that..

grannyrebel7 Tue 12-Apr-22 21:23:55

I've noticed that if you post at the weekend you get less of a response. I suppose it's because everyone is out and about then.

Redhead56 Tue 12-Apr-22 21:40:55

I recognise your name from previous posts. I don’t post on morning because I’m always busy but I do join some threads. Don’t be disheartened I think a few people have said they have felt ignored. I wouldn’t take it personal contribute on threads that interest you other posters will get more familiar with you.

Farmor15 Tue 12-Apr-22 21:42:58

Hi Maydonoz - I don't post much either, but have never posted on the Good Morning thread. I've looked at it a few times, but it seems there are a lot of regulars there who know each other. They probably didn't ignore you on purpose - just didn't notice you! Best to stick to threads on topics that interest you smile

Pantglas2 Tue 12-Apr-22 21:49:52

I’ve seen your name May and might have commented but I wouldn’t get too upset if folks don’t appear to have missed you.

I don’t always post, especially if I’m not up to much or as was the case whilst on holiday recently, others there were having a tough time with health issues and it seemed insensitive to post about a jolly!

Keep on keeping on as it were, these things often take a little time x

MerylStreep Tue 12-Apr-22 22:00:23

Maydonoz
There have been dozens of posters, who, like me have been with GN from the beginning ( 2011) many of these posters have left or just don’t post anymore.
The majority of these missing posters are never mentioned.
It’s nothing personal. It’s the way forums operate.

Hello, and welcome back!

Don't get discouraged, sometimes timing is important. I think on the good morning thread, the responses die off before noon. I am in a different time zone, so sometimes I will post something but it's the middle of the night in UK, so my posts get a bit lost.

I do find there are a few threads that are a bit ... not cliquey in a snobby sense, but clubby in that they are all familiar with each other.

Esspee Tue 12-Apr-22 22:17:00

Gosh, I wouldn’t expect anyone to notice if I wasn’t around, far less welcome me back.

MerylStreep Tue 12-Apr-22 22:19:32

I know several people on GN right now who have changed their name for one reason or another, hardly anyone has noticed.

brook2704 Tue 12-Apr-22 22:21:40

So sorry that you felt disappointed maydonoz please don’t take it personally as the Good Morning thread is usually very busy and often posters aren’t responded to individually
Please post again on the thread whenever you can, it’s lovely to hear your news and to have you back with us ?

dragonfly46 Tue 12-Apr-22 22:24:53

I know exactly how you feel Maydonoz. I wonder too how some posters are more missed than others. I just carry on regardless and like kitty I say my piece and move on.

aggie Tue 12-Apr-22 22:28:10

I read the Good Morning thread , but seldom post on it , my life is too boring !

maddyone Tue 12-Apr-22 22:35:59

Why don’t you try posting on the soop’s kitchen thread? Everyone is really lovely there and you won’t be ignored.

BlueBelle Tue 12-Apr-22 22:40:12

I m afraid I wouldn’t really notice if someone had been away unless they were a very regular prolific poster
I rarely notice names just read with interest what someone’s got to say however I only posted on the ‘good morning’ thread a few times, years ago, but felt that there are regulars who talk to each other about what’s going on in their life and I wasn’t included however in fairness it probably takes time to be noticed or included……. and that’s how it goes
Don’t worry i post most days but often talk to myself haha that’s life

crazyH Tue 12-Apr-22 22:48:54

Welcome back May - sorry you feel like that. TBH, I come on here almost everyday/ night and sometimes, just read. If it’s a topic I know something about (usually, not much) I will comment. I love the ‘Games’ thread.
Dont leave maydonoz

ginny Tue 12-Apr-22 23:01:05

Maydonoz I have been a regular poster on the GM tread but recent , for various reasons, didn’t post for a month or so. I don’t think anyone noticed I’d been missing either so don’t take it personally.
I don’t have very good recall of the names on threads and I expect others are the same.

Maggiemaybe Tue 12-Apr-22 23:06:59

Esspee

Gosh, I wouldn’t expect anyone to notice if I wasn’t around, far less welcome me back.

Same here, Esspee. I hardly ever get, or expect, a comment in reply to my words of wisdom. And I’ve been here for 10 years. smile

I don’t do the regular cosy threads though. But I must say that when I did have something to say in the kitchen, the lovely soop made a point of acknowledging me both times. I don’t think you’d feel left out there, May.

Marydoll Tue 12-Apr-22 23:28:39

maryd, Frankly, I'm a bit surprised at your post, please don't take it personally, that no-one welcomed you back to GN.

I have been a poster daily on that thread for years and despite going AWOL at times, due to ill health, I don't expect to be welcomed back to GN. when I do eventually post, nor do I expect posters to actually comment on my posts. It is nice when people do and offer support, but no great deal if they don't. There are a fair number, who post regularly on that thread, so its difficult to respond to each post. Perhaps you could try again and people can get to know you.

For me it's/ was just an outlet for my musings and to witter on. Being CEV, I have to be very careful about socialising and I am a very chatty person, as some grans will verify! I miss social interaction and my life can be quite lonely at times. That thread helps me to connect to others.

I find it quite cathartic to offload my worries and then move on to my next novella. .

Kate1949 Tue 12-Apr-22 23:41:10

Sorry you feel disappointed. If I didn't post for a long time and then came back, I wouldn't expect anyone to notice. Posters come and go.

Marydoll Tue 12-Apr-22 23:41:43

Pants, I did respond to your post, but it seems to have disappeared into the ether.
I just wanted to say that I love reading about other posters' jollies. Just because I have a hard time of it sometimes and can't go on jollies, doesn't mean I resent hearing about others having fun. Quite the opposite!

maydonoz Wed 13-Apr-22 07:32:49

Hi all
Thanks for your replies and comments and of course, in general I don't expect individual responses to my post. It's just the fact that I explained about my mishap and had been suffering from a sprained shoulder due to a fall.
However it's not a fracture and I am hoping the pain will ease up slowly.
Also on the positive side it is my left shoulder as I am very right handed and can get on with doing most things.
Enough of my ramblings, my woes are very minimal in comparison to what people in Ukraine are suffering or indeed other parts of the world.
Wishing you all a good day, the sun is shining where I live.
