OVERWHELMED BY WORLD EVENTS

I might be way out of my depth here and this might not be the right place to put this on but here goes .
I have watched news from ‘abroad’,(I’m in Scotland but have travelled) from a ‘comfortable distance’ and been upset, shocked, very sad about the state of the world, be it wars, acts of god etc.
I am in my 60s now. Yes I did not live through the Second or First World Wars as my parents and grandparents did. I have only seen this reproduced very articulately in many films and heard stories. Yes we have lived through a Covid pandemic - many compared it to the Spanish Flue epidemic of 1918 killing over 215,000. And then of course, after that, the War. But I have never been so, not just touched, but devastated by the last few years of actually living through and acknowledging how dispicable men who crave war can be. And yes, I think it is indeed men. What do they crave? Land? Why? Power over reserves? Why? Power over people? Why?
Why are men so hell-bent on distructing? I am not a ‘reverse-misogynist’ but it is men who seem to have to always instigate and therefore manifest this un-harmony in the world. It is men who send our sons and their own to war to give up their lives.
I have travelled - not all over the world - but everywhere - everywhere- I have gone I have respected every country I have visited - their rules, their culture - and I have connected with so many lovely people from all walks of life just living their lives and happy to talk openly, to chat, to discuss different countries and ways of living, to laugh at the same things, talk about family, friends and even to be able to laugh at ourselves and our own countries eccentricities.
I am so saddened and appalled at what is happening now. Am I being unreasonable in thinking this? Does no one remember banter and laughter?

….And took the milk away from school kids
freya I m well aware why she took us to war, was it worth it ? why shouldn’t Argentine have that bit of land on their doorstep why should we ‘own’ it ?? I have no understanding of why lives should be lost and ruined for a small island on the other side of the world, we should have given it to them in good grace 3500 population, descendants from a variety of European countries Really ….

My thoughts too BlueBelle

I'll never forget seeing Argentian conscripts in "dress shoes " fighting ,a bedraggled and hopeless bunch. Or the monsterous Thatcher urging us to rejoice after hundreds of lives had been lost.

The news is desperate. Its a struggle to continue with our own little lives some days.

I’m trying hard to dwell on what’s going on around me I know that sounds ignorant and selfish but I try because otherwise I m overwhelmed by something entirely out of my control I don’t mean I don’t listen to world news but I try not to dwell on it or analyse it as much as I would have, or else I will become mentally unstable and totally useless
I believe, in WW2, from what I ve heard it, it was all about how to deal with ‘your’ daily problems brought on by the war so how to get to the bunker, how to get enough food how to manage the daily things to keep life normal for the children How to get wool to knit for the soldiers how to manage substitutes for everyday things this must have kept theirs brains involved

We can’t alter the minds or deeds of those causing the wars so we have to use our energies to deal with the results that we are involved in

Thankyou for starting this thread because I live alone and fear this world and the future of my granchildren and future lifes . I cry sometimes when I hear the world news and fear a world war . It feels an unkind world . I try to smile at people and be kind to brighten their lifes because it feels as if no one cares anymore . It will help me by following this thread .

Thankyou yes it's a very scarey world at times . I find some people angry . Where I live was once a friendly over 60s cul de sac , people waved and smiled but now new people and no one even looks up any more . I always smile or say a good morning but often get a grumpy nod . No community feeling whatsoever sadly . The world does frighten me and I feel I don't belong anymore. I am a friendly person and I will always offer support or help but when I go indoors and into my quiet world I am alone and on my own . It helps to know it's not just me feeling afraid of the future .💕

There is an old saying:-

Praise the god of all, drink the wine, and let the world be the world

At my age (80 in a few weeks) I guess I wont be around that much longer to put up with all this drama. There is nothing I as an individual can do to influence events so I am taking the high road and opting out.

I worry about the state of the world that my grandchildren will live in as adults. Climate change, declining standards of behaviour, the incessant 'wokeness,' gender ideology, more and more people being diagnosed as something or other, ever increasing reliance on technology instead of social interactions...the list just goes on.

I try not to think about it all too much, as there's nothing I can do about it.

I agree that past generations had their own troubles, but even so, the planet itself was not under threat.

So many conflicts are immensely prolonged by government leaders who are on a personal mission to not lose face with other government leaders and the folks at home. They are driven to protect their vast egos at any cost, but it's ordinary people who they fully expect to pay for it.
When was the last time a Head of State was on the front line of a military confrontation? Too busy, methinks, hiding behind the Cannon Fodder.
