Serious question - what is the male point of view, and how does it differ from the female one? Do all the women on GN have the same POV, and if not, why would any male posters?

It’s classic for a predatory male to want to come on to a site like this for a power trip.

We don’t know how many men we have here on GN, we just assume if a poster is called Daisy or Lily that they are female.

Unfortunately there have been same bad experiences with men on this site, I think most of us will remember the dreamer and the antipodean!

On a positive note we have Mick our wonderful Gentleman on the morning thread.

Exactly, I don’t think ‘Dave’ is quite as he described.

I am surprised that ANY men continue to post. The mere possession of a Y chromosome is enough to set some sensitive antennae twitching. Yet some posts by supposedly female usernames telling of abuse by mothers-in-law or daughters-in-law (with obvious continuity errors in the facts they describe) have elicited pages of posts full of outrage and support.

My antennae twitch at improbable OPs, and gyrate when the OP doesn't come back after the first post. I don't believe in a 'male POV', so I don't care about the sex of posters unless they bang on about being male all the time, which on the whole they don't.

Dave is welcome if he contributes, but as he hasn't, people are suspicious. Nobody has called for his execution as was suggested upthread, though . Everyone has been very polite.

It’s no surprise to me that so many women are scammed.

This was posted at 03.36am, the trolls and scammers are usually nocturnal.

And I think all the long family drama posts are trolls as well. Long time on MN has made me very wary of that kind of nonsense.

There is a big difference, men very often don’t understand the emotions of women, or her need to have security. The man would happily live day to day without a second thought, older men would have a much better awareness, younger men are often clueless.

That's interesting, as that is not remotely my experience. Some women are clueless, some men are emotional and need security. I really don't think that those things divide along sex or gender lines, and definitely don't think that sex divides points of view, which again, I see as varying between individuals, and whether they are male or female is irrelevant.

Having checked the I'm on link, I see that I have, as far as I can see, stuck to topics on which there is no discernible male point of view, as opposed to that of a relaxed and rational human being - and no obvious female view, either.

I intervened on one of the trans women related threads, when somebody asked why men never contributed to the topic, to say that I had no personal experience of trans men or women, but believed strongly in safe places, and fair sports, for women, defined as females. Those may not have been my exact words, but they were and are my views.

By way of background, my age is such that I remember the 1953 coronation, I was brought up by my mother, who divorced but remained on good terms with my father, and was a successful businesswoman, and boarded at a prep. school that was presided over by the widow of the founder, who kept a sharp eye on the male teaching staff. After all that, a male boarding public school, and an all male college at university, did nothing to persuade me that males were in any way superior to females. We are all human beings.

Well said, grumppa. You don’t post enough, but when you do you just muck in, like the rest of us, rather than doing the ‘speaking as a man . . .’ thing. (Obviously it’s different if the question is about whether there is a male point of view, though .)

It hasn't been my experience either, you simply can't make generalisations and we are all thankfully very different from each other
