There is an enormous range of jazz so I don't understand why people dislike all of it. If you look on You tube you 'll find a lot. Miles Davis, in his early days - beautiful trumpet. Also EST - Esbjorn Svensson Trio. Sadly he was killed in a diving accident several years ago. But an amazing pianist.

Couldn’t agree more. I love both these artists. Jazz is as diverse as classical music. I very much miss Chick Corea. However, if I had to listen to Acker Bilk or Dixieland jazz I would have to shoot myself.

For Margomar, you've had a few good suggestions, but I'd fight back with playing him Chirpy-Chirpy-Cheep-Cheep, or The Smurfs song, or Lily the Pink, perhaps Agadoo (Black Lace), or my personal pet horror, anything by the bl**dy Hollies. Max volume. Maybe as someone said banish him to the shed!

Oh, yikes, you’ve reminded me of one of the worst nights of my life back in the 70s, new boyfriend took me to see Miles Davis, possibly in Reading. I had no idea who he was, but eagerly agreed as aged around 23….. Once it started, I simply could not bear to be in the hall, and retired to the bar for the rest of the night, accompanied by many other females! Much huffing and puffing from the bloke about ticket prices, yada yada, didn’t end up together… 🤣

I can't stand modern jazz but used to love traditional jazz.

DS bought a banjo on Tuesday, brought it to show me and played it a little. When he came yesterday he told me his wife and eldest daughter were not enjoying him practising for hours and would like him to go away.
My house has always been full of music, we had a piano, organ, keyboards, violin, guitars and an electronic drum kit. You learn to tune out the sounds you don't want to hear.
DS would like to play folk music as a family group but I can't see that happening 😆

Watch TV with head-phones, too. I know it's not the best solution, but it's doable.

Tizliz another favourite is the Marcin Wasilewski trio (Polish). Their Spark of Life and in particular Sudovian Dance is really beautiful. We find lot of new music from streaming services as we have “suggestions” turned on.

At the other end of the jazz spectrum I like Nubiya Garcia, Ezra Collective and Moses Boyd who are all London bands.

If you have a house.. why onearth don't you sound proof one room and allow him to enjoy himself? Frankly you sound very uncompromising..

Soundproof a room!!! Just get an electronic keyboard and a set of headphones for him and problem solved.

I understand your point Chestnut but if I co-owned or co-rented a house with a partner I would feel rather aggrieved at not being allowed to play the sort of music I liked.. and would make a space where it is possible. especially if I preferred a real
piano.. This way they could both play to their hearts content without disturbing the other.. £2,000 well spent

No where near ass beautiful as Miles Davis in his early years. He did change in the 70s from the melodious trumpet player that he was. Try "in a Silent Way" for a beautiful sound

No, an electronic keyboard isn't anything like a piano but a good digital piano is just like a real piano - and you get the chance to plug in some quality headphones too !

Exactly. I bought a Casio digital piano from Argos during lockdown for my daughter for £400. You need a cover (less than £10) and some decent headphones and away you go. Someone who just wants to unwind can tinker away on it for hours, and can always play the real piano at other times. I can't see the problem with this. 🤔
