Ten German Bombers

I feel ashamed to be English after reading about our loutish football fans singing this odious song with their stupid models of bombers, in the beautiful country that is hosting Euro 2024.
The German response has been measured and gracious but I think the fans should be arrested for hate crime and banned from attending future matches.
Or is it ok because it’s Germany and it must forever pay and be ridiculed for Hitler’s crimes? I hope they win the tournament and so far their playing has been glorious.

I agree with you Oreo. A bit of a sweeping statement, Grandma70s.

My DH, DS! and SIL are very much football fans and certainly not loutish. I take myself off to the conservatory, when there is football on.

rafichagran Sun 23-Jun-24 12:19:32

I find Grandma 70s post unpleasant, I have been to football matches both home and away, I sat in the terraces not some private box. I love the chanting and the atmosphere, plus I bought the unhealthily burger I could find and enjoyed it.

I find there is a snobbery around football as it is deemed a more working class sport. Would you encourage your sons not to do rugby?

Callistemon213 Sun 23-Jun-24 12:27:58

It's stereotyping.

DS is a family man in a professional job and he and and his friends would never resort to the kind of hooliganism which some fans all over the world do, nor do the majority of fans.

Jaxjacky Sun 23-Jun-24 12:32:27

I was a season ticket holder some years ago, before I got my allotment.
The Prince of Wales and I can be unpleasant and uncivilised together along with a myriad of others across a large section of society.

Callistemon213 Sun 23-Jun-24 12:33:21

😁

Rosie51 Sun 23-Jun-24 12:35:03

I love football and happily watch as many matches as possible. I am not unpleasant nor uncivilised, and likewise my husband and sons.
Prince William likes football, does he come under your blanket snobbery Grandma70s? Oh dear, he's encouraged Prince George to attend too!

Callistemon213 Sun 23-Jun-24 12:36:05

DS has taken DGD on occasion. She plays too 😯

Rosie51 Sun 23-Jun-24 12:36:13

Cross posted Jaxjacky I see you've made the same point grin

Football is such an enjoyable game at (almost) every level, and at its best it is “the beautiful game”. It’s not surprising supporters are so passionate about it.

Well the posts I reported have been deleted. I suggest that taking a careful look at what you are criticising is important. It's fine to disagree and oppose someone's views. It is not OK to make personal remarks about them, much as they may irritate you.
I would never have dreamed of reporting anything on this thread until paddyanne54's post was reported and deleted. In my opinion if some people want to engage in slanging matches they are quite entitled to do so. What isn't OK is choosing to report one post because you don't like what it says or the poster saying it and ignoring others because you agree with them. I find that unacceptable.

I reported paddyanne54’s post due to its content.

I do not engage in ^slanging matches^

I don't think you were involved in the slanging match. You did however choose to report one of the posts involved in it, conveniently ignoring the others, because they didn't fit your views.
I actually think that's worse.
If people want to spend their time insulting each other why not stay out of it and let them?
If you find posts that personalise things wrong why not report all such posts?

Why are you continuing with all this Glorianny let it drop, haven’t you noticed the thread has moved on. It will be goady to keep on about it.

Scotland out of the Euros now so football fan news will feature the countries still in the contest.

Oh wow the Thread police strike again. I was replying to a post. Sorry I didn't realise there was a time limit on such things. It is "goady" to tell people what they can and can't say on a thread.

Thank goodness it wasn't an English referee! 😯

The Scotland manager said that only European referees should be allowed to referee at the Euros, saying of the Argentinian referee, one of the best in the world ^'he probably doesn't speak the language'.
Scottish English or Hungarian? 🤔

Oreo Mon 24-Jun-24 11:23:09

Are you actually interested in the thread subject Glorianny which is football and behaviour of fans?
Why don’t you comment on that?Do you think along with the OP that English fans should be arrested for hate crimes?

Oreo Mon 24-Jun-24 11:25:09

Haha Callistemon the manager is casting around for blame, when the Scottish fans are blaming him🤭

Indeed I would. Rugby’s even worse, though for different reasons.

I suggest you read my first post on this thread. I have no problem with chants. I have no problem with bawdy songs. I have no problem with people being rude to each other. I just like to see a little equality in all of this.

Rugby is more dangerous for its players but just as entertaining to watch, from a spectator view, as football.
The only boring sports to watch, to me, are golf and cricket and unfortunately my DP is addicted to watching them as well as all other sports I don’t mind watching.😖

Iam64 Mon 24-Jun-24 11:58:42

You couldn’t write it!!’ Doesn’t speak the language, a real foreigner, we wis robbed. Can you
Imagine the outrage if Southgate or Kandsaid this

Snooker and darts .....
If you can call them sport. Like watching paint dry.
