Maybe the brother can re arrange the wedding like all those people had to re arrange their appointments when the M25 came to a standstill!

Cressida Gethin jailed for 4 years.

MissInterpreted I agree.
The law was broken and this incurrs sanctions. Why are these law breakers more worthy of our pity than others?

There could be much more constructive ways they could be punished
Like Rosie51
I'd like to hear your constructive punishment and how it would work in their case.
This punishment is effective in showing those convicted, not only how it will affect their lives, but how it affects their families.
In this instance the parents speeches are doing a good job of showing how effective the punishment is by making them, and everyone else aware how a crime impacts others.

I'd imagine that Little Miss Privelige will probably be dealing with a darn site more than mithering about missing her brothers wedding if the prison ùber-bully has her in her sights......

Can't say I would have say sympathy. My sympathy goes to the woman who missed her cancer appointment. Middle class entitled twat.

Have sympathy.

The silly brat and her pals should try pulling a similar stunt in China.

I wonder how Cressida's mother would feel if all the guests to the son's wedding were unable to reach the venue, due to a protest by JSO.

Well that would be different wouldn’t it?

So what?

Anniebach Thu 25-Jul-24 00:13:54

Katie Hopkin as Cressida’s mother is great,

Lovetopaint037 Thu 25-Jul-24 01:29:15

Good. Missing a family wedding is less traumatic than missing a hospital appointment or an operation.

Having read Cressida Gethin's mother's speech in defence of her daughter I am reminded of the comment written on the bottom of a letter from parents announcing that their (extremely oppositional ) daughter would be wearing her duffle coat to school in future despite very strict rules forbidding it: 'no wonder she is like she is.'

The point of making protests that break the law is to say 'I feel so strongly about this that I WILL take the punishment.' Had a relative in a similar position who was fined for his protest (not this issue and years ago) - but 'a wellwisher' paid the fine. He was outraged as he Wanted to be jailed.

Athrawes Fri 26-Jul-24 11:25:42

I think such protestors are NOT thinking about other people and other people's predicaments. I have been a war protestor in the past and it was very well organised and well planned. I'm afraid I find many of todays type of protestor thinks only of themselves and not of the effort on others

I can’t understand how throwing paint at a painting will help their cause.

well done the courts.

I think very few people disagree with the need to find alternatives to oil and it is being worked on. These things take time and cannot be suddenly be produced out of thin air.

Disrupting the lives of people who are less entitled and actually have to work for a living does nothing for their cause, but they couldn't care less about that. Don't forget the words of the protester who when told their protest had prevented a man reaching his dying father replied "I'm not sorry because I know I am right!

Sakura4 Fri 26-Jul-24 11:42:44

Sorry my dear, your choice, your responsibility.

Leavesden Fri 26-Jul-24 11:47:17

I have no sympathy for her, if you do the crime you face the consequences, she had no thought for the people disrupted by this.

The Judge’s summing up of the case & sentencing was succinct & to the very point.

I think that the sentences given are not the maximum possible for this crime & there is a risk that those convicted if they go to appeal - hence the careful wording of the Judge, the evidence used in the trial & the statements made by the defendants - that the sentences could be increased.

There is a potential, that a) given that the defendants are guilty by the evidence given & b) their own comments in court, that some may take out civil proceedings for damages. But then Hallam & the others in real life - rather than his ideological fanatical persona - may have little to offer.

Cressida’s mother has just made the point that her DD cannot gel right from wrong & believes herself not be subject to UK law & order, & the responsibilities/restrictions of peaceful protest. Indeed Cressie’s mummy suggests the entitled apple has not fallen far from the tree. Almost funny…but not for the impact, well beyond what was presented as evidence in court, for people & everyday lives.

Oh dear, how sad, never mind

GrannySquare Fri 26-Jul-24 11:51:40

Ugh, apols for typos.

Ali08 Fri 26-Jul-24 12:03:59

Oh well, never mind! She'd probably ruin it, anyway.
