Maybe the brother can re arrange the wedding like all those people had to re arrange their appointments when the M25 came to a standstill!

Cressida Gethin jailed for 4 years.

Good.

Ooooh sad! How terrible! grin

Whethertomorrow Wed 24-Jul-24 17:57:36

Oh that’s dreadful!

How can we curtail HER civil liberties! Oh wait a minute ……..

MissInterpreted Wed 24-Jul-24 18:00:13

Oh boohoo - think of all the people who missed vital hospital appointments or things like funerals, weddings, etc because of their stupid protests. My heart bleeds...NOT!

Pantglas2 Wed 24-Jul-24 18:09:21

I watched her mother’s speech and was struck by the sheer lack of awareness or acknowledgement of the detrimental effect her daughter’s actions would have on others.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 24-Jul-24 18:17:55

Entitled people…

maddyone Wed 24-Jul-24 18:24:46

Oh dear, what a shame. Not!

Someone with very advanced cancer missed their hospital appointment, because of her and her mates. That person had to wait 2 months for a replacement date at a crucial time when every day counts. Is this woman's mother seriously off her head making such an announcement? does she think such wanton disregard for people who are ill, attending funerals or simply working people trying to go about their business that such high jinx disruptions will somehow resonate with the general public. Take your protests to outside the embassies of the countries that are the world's worst polluters. I do believe there is a small section of people who inhabit an entirely different planet.

In some cases they should be charged with manslaughter if an ambulance can't get through and someone dies. Lock them up for criminal damage to property and for stopping people getting to their destination. Most of them have nothing else to do but join demonstrations.

And 10 of them arrested at Heathrow today.

Jaxjacky

And 10 of them arrested at Heathrow today.

And they’ve said we can look forward to a summer of disruption.

TerriBull Wed 24-Jul-24 18:53:23

In fact I'd say going inside might do her some good, it may open her eyes to the fact that her cell mates will not be coming from the place of privilege she has experienced, in fact the opposite, usually a life of desperation.

It made it even worse - and gave some insight why "Cressida" and her buddies are such selfish entitled t****s (can't write the word)

Louise Lancaster's husband has done the same "poor thing" speech as his wife will miss seeing their daughter walk down the aisle next summer. That he can be so insensitive to the instances mentioned in court of others missing funerals, cancer treatment appointments etc is astounding and just illustrates how very special and entitled they feel. They totally disregard the chaos the protests caused to thousands of people.

They are doing their cause a disservice, alienating everyone. However, they are right, we should be taking drastic steps to do something about the climate emergency. We had a speaker at WI last month, who explained to us what a dangerous situation we are in and how close we are to the point of no return. Still people are flying off on holiday and going on cruises, which are two of worst things for climate change. Instead of gluing themselves to motorways they could be educating us and asking why our politicians, of all colours, are not telling us the truth. During the election campaign there was scarcely a mention of the subject. I am an elderly WI member, not a radical protestor, but maybe I will become one as I care about what kind of a planet we are leaving our grandchildren.

maddyone Wed 24-Jul-24 19:13:19

Perhaps the many thousands of owners of private jets could be targeted, and not the people who save all year to be able to go on holiday via an EasyJet plane.

Politicians are telling the truth. We are all aware of climate change. I think the speaker who came to the WI meeting sounds somewhat like the Just Stop Oil protesters. Maybe she’s a member.

TerriBull Wed 24-Jul-24 19:15:31

Roger Hallam has a number of gas guzzling vehicles. As previously been asked, how do they get to their place of protest do they walk m? I'd be interested to know whether Cressida and Co have taken any flights recentlyhmm

Rosie51 Wed 24-Jul-24 19:24:44

rubysong Still people are flying off on holiday and going on cruises, which are two of worst things for climate change. actually they're not, road transport is still the biggest transport contributor although plane and cruise ship contributions are rising. The biggest contributor to carbon output is the use of fossil fuels to provide energy for homes, industry etc

MissInterpreted Wed 24-Jul-24 19:26:18

It is possible to be deeply concerned about climate change, while still condemning the actions of these protesters.

bikergran Wed 24-Jul-24 19:26:31

Well I hope they don't fall soft and "let them out for the day"

Rosie51 Wed 24-Jul-24 19:28:20

posted too soon in error. I have a child who lives with his family in her country of birth. I need to fly to see them once a year or would you have me never see them in the flesh again?

Climate Change is a real emergency for the planet, as is pollution of the oceans and the extinction of species due to human activity. I do not support the actions of JSO or their incarceration, nor am I gleeful that their families are impacted. There could be much more constructive ways they could be punished. People miss appointments etc everyday on our roads because of the actions of careless drivers, we shouldn’t pretend otherwise.

Rosie51 Wed 24-Jul-24 19:48:21

vegansrock yes accidents happen, and not always because of careless drivers, that's why they're called accidents. Nobody has denied that accidents, or careless driving doesn't happen? I've yet to hear of any accident that caused days of roads being blocked and thousands of people being affected. The actions of JSO are done to deliberately cause this mayhem. There was no other constructive way to punish these conspirators (and it was for conspiracy they are being punished) because they were on bail for previous transgressions, and vowed to keep causing the same disruptions. What would you do to stop them? I'd like to hear your constructive punishment and how it would work in their case.
