Bah humbug. Christmas is what you make it, not what the supermarkets want it to be, Christmas is about family, not mounds of food and presents. The real meaning is being lost through cynicism, greed, and pushing an agenda that I try and block out. Dislike all the Christmas adverts, all they want you to do is spend money. As for Christmas cards, I buy charity ones, so all get a little Christmas cheer, in the real sense of the season, and I like to receive them too. Part of our culture which I love.
Having my neighbours 5 year old telling me she hates Christmas, guess why, I'm glad our country still celebrates it. Long may it remain.

Christmas cards go straight in the bin, here. blush

I feel rotten, but I don't want them.

I think the supermarket adverts have to come out early. If you're ordering Christmas food to collect or get delivered, items run out and become unavailable if you wait too late.
It must be a logistical nightmare for them in terms of stock control.

I received my first Christmas card today 🎄

Crikey! 🙄

I detest all the commercialism and pressure selling........it's just not Christmas any more!

Don't get me wrong, I don't spend just because it now seems the norm but I simply feel that people have lost sight of the true meaning and it is just an excuse to eat and drink as much as humanly possible and spend money on tat that breaks before the New Year.

It’s not just the supermarkets, I saw a house with the Christmas tree and decorations all up this afternoon. I don’t get it.

My GP surgery has a tree bedecked in tinsel in the foyer I nearly had a rant about it but decided not to, it’s hard enough to get an appointment as it is.🤬

Missinterpreded I agree not my time of year at all and must totally dilute any excitement others might have If the decs are up for weeks if not months, awful

MissAdventure Thu 07-Nov-24 19:09:00

The only ad I ever liked seemed to disappear, probably because it dealt with something non frothy.

I'm afraid I can't get sentimental about a bloody carrot.

Somebody near us puts their tree up end of October and doesn't take it down until February. It all seems to be a competition now on how soon people will put up the tree, who will put loads of lights on the outside of their house, who will buy the most unneccessary presents, and who will have the biggest bestest Xmas dinner attended by the most family and friends. And if you don't tick all the boxes you are not enjoying Xmas.
I've stopped trying, just go with the flow and do the absolute minimum until New Years Day then the tree and decs come down for another year.

Devalues... that is my feeling exactly.. I feel sorry for parents of youngsters, how can you get to Christmas and make it special when it has been ongoing for almost 2 months?

MissInterpreted Thu 07-Nov-24 18:45:32

I don't get it either, but then I loathe xmas. But apart from that, I genuinely feel that the earlier someone puts up their tree and decorations, the more it kind of devalues the whole thing.

I have just passed a house with a fully decorated Christmas tree in the window!

Can somebody confirm that today is 7th NOVEMBER please?
I have just 'experienced' 3 different supermarket ads in the last 30 minutes!
Can we not just have November PLEASE?
By 25th December we are surely all heartily sick of it...
