Being told where to walk my dogs !

Today, DH & myself went for a drive out with the intention of stopping for lunch .

Our original destination had been a small local town, but it had a Thursday market & no parking so we drove around the local area until we found a country pub .
When I say “ drove round the local area” we drove for miles on country roads .
I went in & asked if dogs were welcome , which they were . I then took our 2 KCC for a little walk down the min street .

As we crossed the road onto the pub side of the road we passed a few cottages whose doors opened straight into the street . Before we crossed the road I could hear a dog barking as we crossed I realised the dog was inside one the houses . You know old stone cottages with 3 steps up from the street ,no front garden .
Before we got to a front door ,a woman appeared on the step ,asking “ are you alright ?
My response “yes, thank you , just walking my dogs before we go for lunch “
Her response ,”Your dogs re making my dog bark. , turn left at the pub ,you can walk your dog there “!,,,,

I mean ….wtf …!!!

Good grief, it's a public road! If she doesn't want her dog barking, she should train the dog not to be reactive!

Your puppers are adorable. I like KCCs. If I had been there, I would have admired them and asked if I might pet them!

Agnurse,
Thank you , everyone loves these two & they always attract admirers every where we go .
As it turned out that pub had the friendliest publicans who also adored our pooches & said bring them back soon 🐶🐶

WTF indeed, who does she think she is

keepingquiet Thu 30-Oct-25 19:34:47

Another dog owner?

Smileless2012 Thu 30-Oct-25 19:36:49

I'd have told her I was quite happy walking them where I was.

Jaxjacky Thu 30-Oct-25 19:59:21

I’d have said thanks, walked on and forgotten about it.

Your dogs re making my dog bark.
Priceless. She needs to contact Graeme Hall!

Incidentally, dog owners, wherever you go with your dog, be sure to carry a poop bag with you even if Fido has already performed before you go out.

A woman in Northampton was fined £100 for not carrying a poop bag, even though her dog had not done a poop!

How very rude! If you were on public land, bad luck her!

Chaitriona Fri 31-Oct-25 14:09:36

I don't expect it is very pleasant for her neighbours having her dog barking every time another dog walks along the street. Perhaps that is what makes her anxious. Or perhaps her dog is especially nervous. Whatever the case, it obviously upset you. But at least it was a one off for you. For her, it must be constant stress trying to police the public pavement in front of her own front door every time another dog owner goes past.

I do not believe you would be fined for not having a poop bag....That is not true...or enfor able

valdavi Fri 31-Oct-25 14:22:31

Granted all the points Chaitriona makes, it's still very rude behaviour.

mumofmadboys Fri 31-Oct-25 14:23:42

Perhaps she was being friendly and trying to recommend a nice place to walk dogs?

Kate1949 Fri 31-Oct-25 14:24:23

Public pavement. She doesn't own it. Perhaps she should move or get rid of her dog. She has no right to tell people where they can and can't walk. It's her problem not anyone else's.

valdavi Fri 31-Oct-25 14:24:29

I have seen the warnings about having a poop bag elsewhere - I think it came in about 6 months ago. I always check I've got a spare one since!

ArthurAskey Fri 31-Oct-25 14:30:06

There’s always a Karen !

Kate1949 Fri 31-Oct-25 14:32:40

A lady was fined £100 last week for not having a poo bag.

i totally agree.
Even more so that the women lived there and is not just visiting for a jolie on a day out.

Dogs seem even more entitled than people these days

4allweknow Fri 31-Oct-25 15:54:43

Pomgirl. It is true. In many places, dog walkers are supposed to be able to produce a poop bag when requested by official. I don't own a dog but look after a friend's now and again. Every pocket in jacket, trousers has poop bags in them, just in case.

I don't tell whoppers!

It was on the main BBC or ITV News 😲

I did wonder if it was a scam because I certainly wouldn't pay an on-the-spot fine to anyone. But apparently it was not.

Allira Fri 31-Oct-25 16:24:27

Thanks everyone, especially Seakay
