I saw this idea online of crocheting around a piece of fleece to make a baby blanket and had to give it a go!

The last one I did! Gary, whose holding it is 6'3""

janerowena Tue 15-Sep-15 20:58:47

grin I don't think I would show that to my knitting club, they would have a collective fit!

Indinana Tue 15-Sep-15 21:33:25

That is quite an achievement Galen smile

It is an achievement. smile

It looks so soft and cuddly

(can't see Gary very well, he could be soft and cuddly too)

That is beautiful Galen. What stitch is it? Is it filet crochet? I've been trying to do that for years but could never figure it out.

You're back Galen. Hope all went well. That is lovely. Is it for a new baby GD ?

I joined a local crochet/knitting group in a very lovely hotel in our high street. It's great fun. We drink coffee, they light the fire in winter months. I taught myself to crochet using pinterest. In four months I've made three beautiful blankets. Rows of wonderful colours using just one stitch. When I look at my blanket it reminds me of my caravan holiday (I took it with me) and laughing at funny stories on Friday mornings. Tee hee

eccentric that sounds lovely.

I have found a brilliant, easy baby blanket that I have just completed (the blanket part) and used up my "stash". It's great because you don't have to cast on! Here's the pattern - I adapted it by crocheting around the edge, I couldn't be bothered sewing on the lace edging afterwards. But I might make another one and just do the lace edge at the top and the bottom as suggested.

A shawl for a friend's DGC1!

Indinana Sun 20-Sep-15 20:47:59

Gosh, I bet there's been a lot of time invested in that, mcem! It is very lovely and I'm sure your friend's DD / DiL will be thrilled with it.

Galen Sun 20-Sep-15 20:58:31

That's very good indeed. Better than I can do! Well donegrin

Grannyknot Sun 20-Sep-15 22:25:04

mc that's beautiful.

rosequartz Sun 20-Sep-15 23:07:29

That is lovely, mcem
An heirloom!

Nelliemoser Sun 20-Sep-15 23:14:01

mcem That is lovely. I still can't do anything like that without arms complaining.

janerowena Mon 21-Sep-15 12:16:01

I made one like that for my babies! smile Mind you, they had to share, I wasn't going to do another one after that!

janerowena Mon 21-Sep-15 12:17:17

Grannyknot that looks really good!

Hi Jane here is my attempt (I'm still a novice at crochet) - it's for a young friend who wanted a cream and grey blanket. It hasn't been finished or washed but I'm happy with it. Because it is knitted diagonally, it is squishy and stretchy.

Grannyknot Mon 21-Sep-15 17:03:52

Just realised its not really cream! Oh well. grin

I crocheted this one a few years ago. It does good service in the summer, when I need a little extra warmth at night. I am warmer than DH at night, (menopause). He has a single duvet if needed.

Grannyknot Mon 21-Sep-15 17:33:02

Wow Hilda !

janerowena Mon 21-Sep-15 17:47:09

Indeed! I thought it was a rug! Lovely.

What wonderful creations! My inferior offering is a cat blanket for Battersea, made from oddments of wool. It is very uneven and needs edging. I am another who hasn't mastered the art of crochet. Any suggestions on how I might could achieve a neat result?

What a very talented lot of GNs you all are!

I have RSI but find I can knit if I use circular needles so the bulk of the knitting rests on my lap.
Crocheting is a complete mystery to me, even my exceptionally patient best friend gave up on me (she's a crochet-er par excellence).

My stash of yarn is stealthily hidden around the house, heaven help me if DH ever susses me out!

Galen Mon 21-Sep-15 17:51:13

I must get on with the rainbow cardigan but can't find the energy

janerowena Mon 21-Sep-15 18:04:09

I would hardly call that inferior, shysal!

Can you do blanket stitching around the edge?
