What are you making in the New Year? I'm going to have a stab at making crocheted socks. Wondering what other crafty grans are planning to make this coming new year.

I have just remembered you are making a Pirate Witzend, can you post a photo when completed please?

Witzend Fri 25-Jan-19 17:13:05

Stuffing and sewing up my pirate - 42 separate pieces so a major operation! Will take at least another whole day.
I hope he's going to look sufficiently swashbuckly and ruffian-ish when he's finished. His beard is certainly worthy of a prize ruffian.

Your quilt is fabulous Mamissimo - well done!

I’m knitting my granddaughter an Aran cardigan, then I’ll get back to my own Aran jumper and finish sewing up two jackets.

Welcome Millie and well done Mamissimo your Christening quilt looks great.

Mamissimo Thu 24-Jan-19 10:29:45

I posted this in the kitchen the other day - here’s my Christening quilt for my GD. It incorporates lots about her family and what I wish for her in her life, in a fun way. It took a long time....and my DD has recently told me she’s expecting number 2.....I’m already planning the next quilt. ?

Hi - I’m new to Gransnet. What a great forum! I took up pottery about a year ago and can highly recommend it. Potters seem to be lovely, calm people and I’ve made lots of new friends as well as some interesting pots. Clay is sooo lovely to handle too. Pottery is a totally absorbing, creative activity - much better than therapy!

Elegran, Yup! Did it last night trying to find the right colour wools from my stash to do a tiny tapestry patch. Now, of course I need to tidy it again.

I've just found this thread and have enjoyed reading about everyone's lovely projects.

I just need to sew some buttons onto a cardigan I knitted for my 1yo granddaughter. The yarn is Sirdar Crofter, which is multicoloured and knits up like fair isle. Very pretty.

I've now started a crochet blanket using yarn in my stash. I've a lot of cream wool so the base is cream and I'll use different colours to make stripes through it.

Elegran Wed 16-Jan-19 12:24:12

MOnica That is a familiar tale. I waste spend more time tidying up half-made things, materials and tools that I do actually making anything. Then finding the appropriate colours etc for something means taking a whole lot of stuff out and untidying it again.

I love crochet, but can you have too many crochet throws...

Grammaretto Thu 10-Jan-19 10:26:17

crystaltipps it is stunning. Lucky baby.
M0nica well done on the zip. I discovered a tent repair shop where they replace heavy duty zips so saved me tackling mine.
I stayed up late to finish the baby socks last night so hopefully they'll get on their way to the frozen north later today. This was my first attempt at socks so I am quite proud.

M0nica Thu 10-Jan-19 09:14:36

Loopylou, me to. Finally get the new zip into my warm, and 10 years ago expensive anorak, finish the cover for my Kenwood mixer. Finish the tapestry covers for a chair, make new curtains for our bedroom.

They all are stacked so neatly in my sewing bedroom. Every time I get going, I start by carefully sort through the stack/stash again to remind myself of what needs to be done and that takes up so much time that I then have to tidy them away again as it is nearly a meal time. hmm

Thank you? new baby is a girl.

Ilovecheese Wed 09-Jan-19 17:49:39

Lovely quilt Cristaltipps

Billybob4491 Wed 09-Jan-19 17:43:39

Thank you Rosieleah - Love the quilt Crystaltipps.

Witzend Wed 09-Jan-19 09:26:39

Thanks so much, Loopyloo, and I'm so sorry to hear about your health problems.

Crystaltipps, that quilt is beautiful! Do you know whether it's going to be a Gdd or a Gds?

Have finished an appliqué baby quilt for new GC due in 3 weeks time

RosieLeah Wed 09-Jan-19 07:10:31

Good morning, Billybob. The tunic pattern is King Cole 3746, knitted in aran.

Billybob4491 Wed 09-Jan-19 07:04:36

Rosie - where did you get the tunic pattern from? would like to try that.

RosieLeah Wed 09-Jan-19 07:00:08

I've got a new sewing-machine and am practising applique. I just finished knitting myself a tunic and I like it so much, I'm planning to knit another one. Then there are patterns for cushions which I bought from Sewing Quarter....

loopylou Wed 09-Jan-19 04:10:31

It's this one www.womansweekly.com/knitting/reindeer-toy-knitting-pattern-for-your-christmas-sleigh-18383/ Witzend (hope that link works!)
I just need to sew it together........?

Witzend Tue 08-Jan-19 22:10:56

Loopyloo, where did you find the reindeer pattern? Sounds like one I'd like to make for next December.

I've just started the Alan Dart pirate - have done one leg tonight. Only about another 37 pieces to go.?

bonji Tue 08-Jan-19 12:57:47

Been making a tea cosy this morning following a tutorial on utube. Just off locally to the first craft club of the year where if I remember correctly after Christmas/New year break we are knitting a tissue box cover - such excitement as DH tells me but makes a pleasant afternoon as we chat more than make!

loopylou Tue 08-Jan-19 10:07:00

My New Year resolution is to finish my WIPs (Works in Progress) before I start anything new. That means completing 4 crochet blankets, two Aran hoodies (child size thankfully), two cardigans for me and a knitted reindeer for my DD. That might need to be next year's resolution too!
I also have unfinished lavender bags.......
Oh lordy that looks like a whole lot of work but I unfortunately am being treated for heart failure so pretty limited in doing a lot so just need to summon up the oomph and get on with it ??!
