Yes, bathsheba I saw that one but I’ve seen a ready knitted one which looked simple and was shaped like the paper poppies .... I believe someone was selling them after being featured on country file last year ...

I have one I have worn the last few years. I just put a donation in the first box I come to. It is garter stitch with a black bead centre. It’s just a knitted circle really, not too fancy!

Did you know that you can use the same pattern in purple to remember all the animals lost through war and if you knit them In blue with yellow centres they work to remember all those suffering from dementia.

If you crochet I have a simple one I always use.

I bought myself a bling poppy on internet and now shall just donate a fiver each year and wear my bling poppy. I used to wear a knitted one and donate each year but it got a bit tatty.

Whilst I admire all the people knitting poppies unless they still donate to the British Legion the Legion will be losing vital much need funds.

Jan16 Sun 27-Oct-19 12:01:55 if you refer back to my post you will see that my pattern came from the British Legion. It may be that many of us want to remember but choose to give our money to more needy charities and do it through gift aid which is not possibly when we put money in a tin. In my case I think that they are sitting on a massive asset in their huge house next to Richmond Park which could raise a vast amount of money which they could use to purpose build something much better in a less expensive place.

I don't like these knitted poppies. Or any kind but the ordinary ones that we have worn for years. The British Legion needs the money coming in all the time.

Nonnie if, by the 'huge house next to Richmond Park', you are referring to the Royal Star and Garter Home for ex-service people, that was sold long ago and has now been rebuilt as luxury flats with lowest price approaching 1 million pounds. So I guess they've already used that money.

I prefer the white poppies which you can get from the Peace Pledge Union. The red ones seem to have lost their meaning somehow. They used to be about quiet remembrance but now I feel November 11th has become something of a fetishism of the military. War is not a glorious thing.

Like many others, I've made a poppy which I wear, but I always donate to the BL & the poppy appeal.

I made many of these last year. I followed the pattern apart from changing to black yarn after row 8. The porch of our village hall is adorned again this year and I spotted some of mine this morning.

The purple poppies always make me cry thinking of those poor animals, especially after seeing Warhorse.
