Yarn weight for baby blanket

I have acquired a pattern for a baby blanket for which the recommended yarn is "worsted weight". I think I have once read that this is what we usually describe as double knitting, but I could be wrong. I'm sure someone will soon put me right.

Anno I’ve made several baby blankets over the last few years, lacy ones, one with sheep on it, and one with dolphins to suit parental wishesgrin
The yarn was double knitting equivalent but usually a blend of fibres to give a lightweight & soft feel & to enable machine washing.

It's a USA term, probably about DK - Aran thickness , using 4.5mm to 5.00mm needles but I'd do a test swatch.

It wouldn't matter so much for a blanket as long as it's big enough.

Light worsted is the same as DK in the UK.
