Does anyone buy too much fabric/ craft items

I recently bought storage so I could finally keep my sewing fabrics in one place. Previously I kept bits all over the place. It is now I see how much fabric I actually have that I am shocked. I knew I loved fabric and love sewing, but the amount I have is excessive. I have now decided no more buying until I have used
Most of what I have. I hope I live until I am 150 to do this. Is there anyone else like me?

I'm addicted to knitting I've secret stashes of wool hiding in various places incase hubby finds it 😉 And I keep receiving squishy post too, it's maybe free with my new knitting magazines 🧶😜😂

What if your husband did find it??
I often get ‘squishy’ parcels, not just yarn but stuffing for the things I make - I get through masses of it! Can’t alas use scraps of anything - stuffing needs to conform to safety standards.

Who else remembers kapok? I found some not long ago among an ancient stash - must have used it for some things I knitted for a DD’s school fair when she was no more than 10 - she’s nearly 44 now! 😱

Thank you . I feel so much better after reading this🤣

Re 'using up scraps of material' - I make them into gift bags of different sizes and donate them to our hospice shop. I have also recently made around forty little bags using left over material ready for an 'Easter egg hunt' at our allotments, even small pieces can be used as 'handles' as they can be a different colour to the main bag. Little children seem to love bags for their 'treasures'

I'm horribly guilty of this .
Recently , some of my stash has gone to our church craft group .
There's charity shops and freecycle groups as well .
Come the warm weather , I'll be having a major blitz on my stored fabric .

Oh lovely, I've found my people.......

😂😂😂

I have some fabric but have gone off sewing. Perhaps I should have a try at quilting to use it all up.

Don't mention yarn, I promised myself to use up the stash before I bought new but there's a new crochet pattern just out .......

I go to a mixed media craft group if any of us have to much of anything we don't want we put in on the tables and people help themselves anything left over the person who brought it in takes it to local charity shop where any craft items of any sort or size are snapped up.

I used to enjoy papercraft, but rarely make anything these days. I have so many books and packs of paper/card! They are stashed in odd cupboards, bags and drawers all over the house. With those together with dozens of jigsaw puzzles my home is full!

Oooh, I love a jigsaw! So therapeutic. I've done a couple recently which I'll do again once we've moved and frame them.

Too much fabric? Not sure I understand the question!

Too many jigsaws? Um nope, my 30 or so Ravensburger jigsaws, at the moment, are safe from the ‘decluttering because we will be moving’ saga, I fear they won’t be safe for very long. MzOops wants me to redo them all, photograph them and then she will sell them, we will see. How can I bear to part with the Christmas ones?

Help
A couple of days in and I have fabric withdrawal symptoms.
🤣

Not fabric, but art materials. I could open a shop. I really should get down to more artwork…..

Lots of wool and always have a baby shawl or blanket on the go.

We gave several to the charity shop at Christmas. DH had completed them, photographed them and carefully packed each puzzle into a polythene bag inside its box.

Later on I found one puzzle piece under a piece of furniture, goodness knows which puzzle it came from 😁

There's a brand new one opening by me next weekend. First 100 there get a free goody bag, I think it's going to be busy!!

SeaWoozle I'm with you on the jewellery making front, I've loads of stuff too.
I made myself stop buying more but caved in when I wanted a go at making origami earrings.

My stash will last about 100 years.

Unfortunately as I am 67 someone else will have to use most of it.

I do pity my children.

I’m guilty of hoarding too much fabric and when I have an idea to make something out of it, it barely makes a dent!! I’ve recently been to a quilt show but was very proud of myself as I resisted all the fabric and just bought a Jenny Rayner book. I’m hoping it’ll re-ignite my enthusiasm for sewing and using a bit up. 🥴🤔

clairefraser1 Sun 03-Mar-24 11:16:04

Knitting yarn. I’ve got so much but it’s never what I need for my next piece😊

icanhandthemback Sun 03-Mar-24 11:59:53

I love crafting and do sewing of all different types, jewellery making, glass work, Cricut work, etc. You name it, I buy too much. I spend far too long sorting it, working out new storage systems, etc, etc. It's almost a past time in itself.

JakeysGranny Sun 03-Mar-24 12:02:39

Me too smile

Same here, or it’s nearly enough, but I just need one more ball of this or that colour….

But I recently found a new pattern on the website of the charity I mostly knit for, which is going to be brilliant for using up some of those small, leftover balls.

I saw a meme on Facebook which I can't find now. I can't take the credit for this but found it amusing:

' I have come to the conclusion that buying craft items and making crafts are two separate hobbies'
