The new series starts on Tuesday 21st May at 9 pm so I'm looking forward to some wonderful sewing again.

The new presenter Kiell is also back to replace Sara Pascoe.

Have just watched this Tuesday episode, oh dear, although loved the crocodile, but no really oustanding sewing skills, I thought Susie would go,let's see what next week brings, but who sews their own bras and pants πŸ˜‚ .

Oops. Sorry for typos.

I spent the day with a fried recently who is stuck in bed recuperating. We watched every series of the Sewing Bee just because we both used to love it.

It was quite startling how different they were from the first to the last. It reminded me of some of my favourites, like the lovely lady from Birmingham who sewed for her daughters, the lovely Welsh lady who had a special deaf sign for Patrick, the medical student from Edinburgh, the Nigerian lady who didn't use patterns, and may more - all extremely talented but also all interesting people with a bit of character who were entertaining to watch.

I agree about Susie. Bit of a show off.
Is Esme all right, does anyone know? She is a bit tremulous at times and her voice shakes.

Callistemon213 Thu 27-Jun-24 19:55:55

Susie's fashion style is definitely weird imo.

Callistemon213 Thu 27-Jun-24 19:54:59

wink

Calli
Fabulous dress but I'm not sure as to the material. It looks a bit satiny.

Fed up with Susie now and how did she manage to sew anything with all that red wool dangling off her.

I have never watched a series where so many garments are unfinished or botched. In the past each series has had several excellent sewers and even the lesser sewers knew what they were doing.

Callistemon213 Thu 27-Jun-24 19:22:40

What do you all think of this spectacular dress made by a 6th former?

I bet you won't guess what the material is (no cheating! 😁)

I haven’t even caught up with their names they are so uninspiring it’s really pathetic and most of the stuff looks awful not enjoying it at all

Susie survives yet again. I had her down to go and by the look on her face she thought she was a goner too.

Beautifully summed up YorkLady

I love this program, however this series is really poor. No outstanding sewer, garments not finished. Time limits seem unrealistic and I don’t want to watch a show where everyone appears to be stressed!!

Parsley3 Wed 26-Jun-24 10:00:29

There is no standout sewer this series. Even the best of the bomber jackets was poorly finished but poor Patrick had to praise it. Esme's face is a picture at some of the efforts. She isn't even bothering to say that she likes the colours.

Glorianny

How is Susie managing to stay in? Her efforts this week were so bad, but she still survives.

I don't know, my money was on her to leave.

M0nica Wed 26-Jun-24 08:07:07

Another collection of unfinished garments. It was only the weekly post programme discussion that kept me watching last night.

Although the crocodile costume was a delight, it says it all that, of all the other garments, that was the garment of the week.

Dull, dull, dull.

Grandmabatty Wed 26-Jun-24 05:31:35

I agree Glorianny. Her sewing has been poor for a number of weeks but she's still there. The swan was a good idea but badly executed.

I agree with you Farmor15. The main problem this year is the poor quality of the sewers.

Early on in the series the producers made the other mistake and had teams of almost professional level sewers. It meant that the tasks got harder and harder, I remember kilts and corsets, as a result the sewers were so concentrated on the task they hardly spoke to anyone and, again, it was a bit dull.

They then aimed at a real diversity of sewers and that works well, but they have now become too careless about sewing skills - and this lot just aren't good enough.

At the start they also had clear times for each round 2.5 hours for the first round, 1.5 for the second and 5.0 for the third. I think they should go back to that and design the projects to fit those timings.

Farmor15 Tue 25-Jun-24 06:36:41

I don't actually think the tasks are harder but just that the sewers are worse! Some of them can't even make a buttonhole or sew a blind hem!

There's no excuse for 3rd challenge - made to measure- not being finished as they knew about it in advance and could practice at home.

I think the programme has probably run its course though I'll watch this series till the end!

Purplepixie Tue 25-Jun-24 00:34:00

I think the tasks are harder this time or am I remembering them correctly? Love the programme. πŸ€—

Millie22 Wed 19-Jun-24 21:28:33

I think the time restraints are getting a bit silly now. Really it would take a long time to make a Nehru jacket and that's why only two were completed.

I didn't like any of the saris. Patrick and Esme are having to judge so many unfinished garments.

I keep thinking of the lovely sewing we saw when the consultant lady was on. This year everyone is struggling.

BrandyGran Wed 19-Jun-24 19:55:44

I think would be sewers would be put off sewing as the garments not finished and done hastily look so amateurish.

Greta Wed 19-Jun-24 19:03:31

I have sewn over the years but I'm not very accomplished. I think it would be interesting to watch a programme where professionals give sewing instructions starting with the basics, i.e. following a pattern, cutting etc. There are so many beautiful fabrics but unless you are a skilled dressmaker you may not feel confident enough to have a go.

BrandyGran Wed 19-Jun-24 17:33:16

It was really a task too far to expect even a very experienced sewer to produce a wearable Nehru jacket under such pressure of time! The final garments were deplorable- not finished or even ironed. I love the Sewing Bee but either they give the sewers more time to complete the tasks or make the tasks less complicated.
