The new series starts on Tuesday 21st May at 9 pm so I'm looking forward to some wonderful sewing again.

The new presenter Kiell is also back to replace Sara Pascoe.

Surely Suzy has to go next week. She is miles behind Pascha, Ailsa and Alex in sewing ability. I was not too keen on her dress or her sleeve of tattoos. Only sailors had them when I was small but to each their own. I wonder what the artwork will look like when she gets old and has extensive wrinkles and bingo wings.

Old arms look awful anyway, tattoos will not make them any worse.

She may not have extensive wrinkles and bingo wings when she is old. I don't, a lot of women do not, even in extreme age. In my case it is genetic, my (many) female counsins are much the same. When my father was admitted to hospital at 92, two doctors commented on how smooth his skin was.

Ilovecheese Fri 05-Jul-24 17:10:36

I thought it was rather better this week. The tasks didn't seem as impossible to complete.

charley68 Fri 05-Jul-24 17:47:53

I do not have a problem with Suzy's sleeve, and I quite like it. I'm sure Suzy does not give a fig what her arm will look like when she is older, she just enjoys how it looks now.
She is very lucky not to have gone home yet. Her bustier dress reminded me of Rhubarb and Custard sweets, and I cannot get that out of my head!
I wish she had chosen a different colour combo, and left the frill off. I think gold and black would look very good on a bustier dress.

Once again tonight's episode is tomorrow, if you see what I mean!

It’s so they’ve more time to make the garment M0nica 🤣

Only caught up with last week's programme last night but yes! 😁

The dress she was wearing herself looked as if it belonged to a fairy from a pantomime or the kind of party frock a four year old would love. Her fashion ideas are somewhat unusual.

Grandmabatty Wed 10-Jul-24 22:18:47

Still too many unfinished garments. The right person went home in my opinion

Parsley3 Wed 10-Jul-24 23:06:20

Diva week this time. Suzy may have flamboyant design ideas but she just cannot sew well enough to give her garments a good finish.

eddiecat78 Thu 11-Jul-24 09:28:31

Suzy's "made to measure" wasn't actually made to measure! It was so loose she didn't need to spend any time fitting it.
I'd be interested to know the wording of the brief as the person who left misinterpreted it completely

Farmor15 Thu 11-Jul-24 11:13:50

Luke definitely came into his own this week - he seems to have pretty good sewing skills and is a contender to be winner as otherwise there only seems to be one other candidate.

Casdon Thu 11-Jul-24 11:48:42

I’ve been looking for some new sweatshirts made in the UK, and Esme is actually modelling a very nice shirt on one of the sites. It’s great to see the hosts are practicing what they preach.

Grandmabatty Thu 11-Jul-24 14:08:10

Farmor I agree. I think Luke was on top of the brief and produced an interesting garment. I felt Patrick and Esme were much more relaxed last night for some reason. I've never been impressed with Suzy. She talks a good game but rarely produces the goods

Callistemon213 Thu 11-Jul-24 14:14:56

I've just watched it.

I did think Suzy saved herself with her made-to-measure as she fulfilled the brief even if it wasn't quite finished and there was a mistake. The outfit was definitely Diva and Lady Gaga.
Both Luke's and Pascha's outfits were excellent.

Unfortunately, although the person who left was normally excellent, this just wasn't her week.

Sarnia Thu 11-Jul-24 14:17:16

Close again for Suzy. Such a shame Alex went. She is a more talented needlewoman than Suzy but her diva outfit at the end was more Rhinestone Cowboy and was unfinished. Next week for Suzy? I have been thinking that for a few weeks now.

'An outfit for a Diva which would have stage impact in a huge arena', I think.

Choosing a singer you like when they're not at all a Diva (and not that well-known) just didn't fulfil the brief.
They're not marked on what they made in previous weeks, only on that week's performance.

So, sadly, I think it was the right decision.

I was trying not to say I case some posters hadn't watched it but yes, Alex didn't pick the right made-to-measure and failed to complete it too.

I'm sorry to see her leave.

Grandmabatty Thu 11-Jul-24 16:14:26

I think Alex was misguided to pick the person she did. He isn't a 'diva' and wasn't particularly well known. In addition her outfit didn't stand out. To be honest, when she said a country star, I immediately thought of Dolly Parton. It wasn't her week at all. Suzy has long outlived her position on the show. She was very lucky to survive last night

All the programmes in this genre work on the law of probability. Same on Bake Off, Strictly, Pottery Throwdown etc.

Wherever you get a group of people having to undertake a skills led task there will most probably be one or maybe a couple more depending on the size of the group who are not at the same standard as most of the others. The truly bad one(s) will go at the beginning but there will inevitably be one who doesn't do well but does get some things right. And within the remaining group there will probably always be one who is generally very good but will have a bad week - and they go.

All it needs is for one person to be worse on one occasion and the not very good contestant gets through again. Probability is that one good person will mess up each week - with that probability decreasing as the numbers dwindle.

So last night we saw a consistently good sewer with quite advanced technical skills make an error of judgment and it's "goodbye". Leaving the "not so good" to fight other day!

marshmarigold132 Thu 11-Jul-24 19:38:32

I wondered if they get to choose whether their models are male or female.

BlueBelle Fri 12-Jul-24 05:28:41

I’m late to this as only just watched the latest episode
I find a lot of it very samey and a bit annoying The young chap (comedian) seems a nice chap but not remotely funny and he doesn’t come across as spontaneous but highly practised with a totally unnecessary role
I feel very old when I look at the costumes as they seem to be all outside any vague comfort zone of mine and sometimes just plain daft( I don’t mean just the diva costume) thought the chaps diva costume was definitely the best by a long mile I think Suzy is more of a designer than a sewer
I think I m only looking forward to watching because there’s so little else on

grandMattie Fri 12-Jul-24 06:25:37

I agree BlueBelle. I feel that, especially with the “reuse” bit, nothing is wearable, despite Esme saying she would wear some items.
I wish they would have a bit more time and make a good job of their sewing. It is all style over substance and it would seem that the more whacky the better.
Me too , I watch it because I’m tired of the violence and swearing of most of the programmes at that time of night.

Calendargirl Fri 12-Jul-24 06:41:14

They seem to allow so much time for the first challenge, sometimes longer than the made-to-measure, or is that me?

Yes, Alex was a good sewer, but her cowboy outfit was patently the wrong choice.

I think she saw herself going into the final, before Diva week, and so did I, tbh.

It would be nice to see more finished outfits, not held together with safety pins and tatty, last minute hasty sewing.

I disagree about Kiell, I much prefer him to Sara Pascoe.
