Lost my Sewing mojo

Oh dear I have lost my sewing mojo recently and have a couple of gifts cut out and ready to make for Xmas.
I absolutely adore making the gifts but not feeling the love this week.
I hope it comes back quickly.

I know exactly what you mean. I find my interests go in cycles. At the moment, I have just completed two cross-stitch designs, which I'm very pleased with. I bought a frame for one and some backing fabric for the other. However, they are both still sitting on my table waiting to be finished off. I hope I soon get the urge to knuckle down and get the job finished.

Tbh I just accept that losing my sew mojo is part of the cycle. The way I got through the last project, a layering dress, was to just aim for 30 minutes at a time, sometimes I did more but step by step It was finished. My sew mojo has flown, for now

Karmalady I will try short stints and see if that works for me. Usually once I get going I really get into it so hopefully I will. Thanks for the tip.

I do find that dull, overcast weather affects my sewing mojo - I thinks it's the fact that on dull days the light in the sewing room isn't great. Give me a bright, sunny day and the sewing machine is on fire smile

I have four pairs of very easy pyjama bottoms to make for the family. I have put off cutting out (out of an old duvet cover!) because I knew they would be problematic.
I now need to sew them up. Ugh. Really don’t want to but must. Next week?….

I’ve sewn constantly for over 50 years, but 2 years ago I lost all interest, the sewing machines haven’t been out since.

Maybe 2025 will be the year I start again.

I am not much for sewing but have crocheted all my life. When my Mum died nearly 4 years ago I lost all interest overnight. We always shared ideas, yarns, patterns etc and there didn’t seem much point after that.

I have forced myself in recent months to at least do a little bit but I know exactly what you mean. I think you just have to wait until you’re ready.

That's cos you have an allotment now ,Karmalady....

Ooh no, I still love sewing.
So many projects on the go and then at the weekend my granddaughter saw some material in my stash that she would like me to cover some cushions with.
Not just ordinary cushions but big ones. She wants bed pillow size but much thicker.
Then I have ongoing with sewing cushion covers for the charity shop where I sort donations.
These covers are mainly from beautiful curtains but have a stain or fading so can’t be sold. The same with beautiful dress material.

When I lose my mojo I put my current projects aside for a while and do something different. I do a lot of cross stitch and have several projects on the go. I choose a couple to work on at a time and swap them for others when I get a bit fed up with them. A new project always revives my enthusiasm!

My mojo has come back 😀.

Truffle43

My mojo has come back 😀.

Where did you find it? Perhaps mine's there too.
I lost my sewing mojo a couple of years ago, my knitting mojo too and recently lost my crocheting mojo the other day as well.

Perhaps I'll leave it where it is until after Christmas.

Truffle43 Tue 10-Dec-24 00:18:01

Allira It just appeared like magic. I tried to make myself sew last week and that was a big mistake as I ended up scrapping what I was making and buying some more fabric.
Tried again today and have made one of my Xmas presents. Not finished off but will not take long. Then just 1 more present to sew and I’m done. In saying that I need to deliver them next week so better carry on.

Not for me anymore. Only repairs or alterations if necessary. Mainly due to neck hurting and arthritis in hands- also struggle to thread the needles!

Truffle43 Tue 10-Dec-24 10:26:03

Susie H I feel it for you as arthritis is painful a friend of mine gave up knitting because of it and she does miss making things. I guess it’s just a sign that we are all getting a little older.

There are two courses open to you all - either shove the sewing into a dark cupboard and go out and buy Christmas presents for whoever should have had the sewn articles, or allocate ten minutes every day to sewing the blasted things whether you want to or not!

I clearly remember that the later option was how I got through exam revision at school and at university.

I regularly lose my knitting mojo but I find it usually after a few weeks.

I used to do a lot of cardmaking, having started in 1987. In fact, several articles I wrote were published in craft magazines (Craft Stamper, Making cards etc). I also did a lot of Cross stitch. I was definitely addicted and spent every spare moment on my hobbies.
Four years ago, my husband died suddenly. From that day to this, I have never made another card, nor have I stitched. It’s not because I am depressed, although I am very sad, obviously. I do other things that I did before, just not those. Crazy!

Yes I've lost my sewing mojo too and I really miss it! I've sewn since primary school - first on my mother's black and gold Singer, then on a wonderful little "fold up" Elna that I was given for my 21st birthday and then a Frister & Rossman which I still have. I think the main reason for my lack of interest is that my machine does not do a stretch stitch which is vital for sewing any of today's modern stretch fabrics. So my dilemma is - do I buy a new machine? - and I think the answer is no because my eyesight is now failing and I struggle to see what I'm sewing never mind threading the needle!

I've always been an on-again off-again knitter. I can stay off your years, then pick it up again for a while. My last project was a baby blanket for latest grandson who is now 9 months old, and I just last week ordered some yarn for a sweater for my DD.

I just hope that I stay with the project and complete it within a good timeframe. For me that usually means just an hour of knitting per night.

I have just started sewing and have made 4 dresses in 2 months. None of them fit as well as they should, but I have learned SO much.. I’m on a steep learning curve. The problem is that I have too much sewing mojo! Knitting, crochet, baking, reading and playing musical instruments have all been neglected, although I enjoy every one of these hobbies a great deal. How can I find more hours in the day??
