I got out my sewing machine yesterday hooray!
There is absolutely no way anyone should be able to follow a pattern and make a lined dolman jacket in was it 4 hours? It takes me that long to read a pattern which clearly some of our sewers didn't. 😅😂

(304 Posts)It's back!
Starting on Tuesday 15th July at 9 pm.
I record the program and watch later so I'm able to fast forward the cringey first part. I've gone right off Esme, she's always had favourites but it's never been so obvious before that she's picking on certain contestants. Kit irritates with his smugness but he is skilful and helpful to the other sewers which is a generous trait, and I think Esme wants him to win. His pattern challenge wouldn't be wearable because of the top stitching, totally off brief which has been penalised in others before. His made to measure was a good costume but definitely not 'made to measure'.
Esme has picked on every little fault of Gaynor the entire series. I'm sure she knew which was Gaynor's in the transformation challenge. Patrick liked it and complimented many features but for Esme it was 'too mumsy'. This is a criticism she often uses, said by the woman who wears shapeless dresses and flat shoes every week! I think she has the final say in the judging, hence why Orla had to share garment of the week with Kit, when Orla's was actually 'made to measure' and fitted to her model.

And another four hours to dither over choice of fabric, lining fabric, thread, zip etc
Is there something wrong with the the sewing machines? There seem to be a lot of needles breaking. Mind you, that happens with my new sewing machine which I dislike so rarely do much sewing now. It rarely happened with my trusty old Singer.
Good summing up, Rosie51.
I do like Kit but he does look very pleased with himself sometimes, perhaps because he glows in all the praise from Esmé.
I've nearly finished my pyjama top. I began them in March, finished the bottoms but have just got back to it again. I had to unpick a seam before I could make the collar fit.
I agree about Esmé having favourites and accusing poor Gaynor of being mumsy was cruel. I don't think I care who wins. It will be whoever chooses the best fabric and makes the fewest mistakes on the day.
I hope Kit wins. He’s very competent but modest when he wins a round. He helps the others, is polite and funny and blushes when his work is praised. I think he’s a darling.

Yes. Creative and a lovely sewer, sewist whatever

Gaynor's made-to-measure was elegant, fitted perfectly and fitted the brief as that is what a Mari-morgan is; eternally beautiful but scary and deadly.

Sewist is better. Every time I see sewer I think of a drain!
Tuesday night's show was dreadful. The outright favouritism, of favoured child, that is Kit, is nauseating. To watch the gaslighting, and the belittling of Gaynor, over the last few weeks has been awful. The nit picking of any little detail to find fault with, on all of Gaynor's garments was dreadful.
Yes, her jacket was not finished, but this has happened to others too in the pattern challenges. Kit had topstitched the gusset thereby ruining the effectiveness of it - that alone should have given Orla the win for that challenge.
Gaynor's transformation garment was a dress, but derided by Esme as 'mumsy', 'boring', but it looked better than Kit's or Caz's.
Gaynor's idea and design for her M2M dress was beautiful, and well constructed, giving a watery feel with the use of all that chiffon. It fitted well, and moved beautifully. All of Gaynor's M2M garments have been so well sewn, but each week Esme has found any tiny thing to criticise.
All made more awful by the fact that we all knew that Gaynor would be the one leaving this week
Yet again, all the older contestants are gone
Kit's outfit was a very loose top, and very loose pants. The hessian was the 'star' of the outfit, nothing to suggest that he designed it. He admitted that more than one person could fit inside it - so not a M2M in any sense of the word. There is a pattern out there for that scarecrow outfit, and is very well known to Dr Who fans.
So it is totally obvious that Kit is the favoured child, when that outfit of his was given shared GOTW status with Orla's. Her dress that fit so well, and was her own design and interpretation of the character.
I do hope that this is Esme's last season.

Thank you. That’s really sweet of you. 💐
I also think Esme is favouring ‘Kit the great’ but deriding Gaynor who was definitely a very good sewer but too plain for Esme (who I will say very quietly I think looks awful most weeks)
I hope Orla or Caz win but guess it ll be Kit
What a surprise
Well!
Just as I was saying that Esmé won't let Kit be eliminated - he went. She did look quite tearful.
I'm quite amazed.
Well there we go
I did think Kit was a bit over confident snd a tad smug before when he was talking about doing his own pattern etc but still I was surprised as I think he was
I really like Orla and her sewing is excellent but Yasmine was a surprise, her sailor suit was lovely I think Caz may be next out
I agree about Kit. Pride goes before a fall and Caz is falling by the wayside as well.
I think Yasmine's outfit was excellent. She chose a good
fabric, of course, easier to sew and press than the others.
Definitely Kit came over as a bit smug tonight, but it's a pity he's gone after being so consistently good throughout the series. He's quite a talented designer and sewer I think with hopefully a bright future in fashion.
I’m shocked! But I did think his garments weren’t very good this week. Orla to win.
I think it could be any of them now. They are so close. But Yasmine's was beautiful, absolutely on point for the era.
They didn't like him making his own patterns and veering off piste.
I don't agree with the judges. They are losing a very imaginative and accomplished craftsman.
I don’t think it was that they didn’t like him making his own pattern Grammaretto I think it was simply poor compared to the others and I think he overreached in trying to win brownie points
I really think Orla should win she has been very consistent mostly in the top three whereas Yasmin s was her first really good piece but Caz could be the dark horse
Kit was bottom in both the pattern challenge and the showstopper, so he had to go despite being the consistently best sewer in the competition. It was so very nearly Caz who could have gone. I think the final will be very tight between Caz, Orla and Yasmin. I rather hope Yasmin wins. Her confidence has risen during the last 9 weeks and she is so polite. I like her.
