Many Gransnetters know that I have very little control over my left hand as a result of a brain injury many years ago. I have always loved doing craftwork but following a recent illness and hospitalisation I haven’t had any motivation. I decided at the weekend that I really wanted and needed to create something, so I’ve started working on a bead bracelet. When it’s finished it will go to a small local charity for fundraising. I’ve made hundreds of these over the years, they’re not difficult but as I’ve chosen to use the smallest beads in my craft stash it will take me a while! I find it so rewarding and it’s definitely good for my mental wellbeing.

Brilliant, Blossoming : congratulations 👏 on overcoming the obstacles.

Thank you Chocolatelovinggran. One bracelet completed, I think I’ll use larger beads for the next one!

I've been looking at the earliest known cave paintings and some date back 64,000 years. The need to be creative is an intrinsic part of being a human being and the satisfaction and wellbeing derived from it cannot be ignored.

Your bracelet is going to look wonderful. I am in awe of your skill and perserverance. Please let us see a photograph of the final piece.

Thank you Beechnut.

Bracelet number 2, I’m getting faster grin. These beads are all the same size so it’s easier to pick them up.

Due to my neurological condition my hands shake all the time . But funny enough not when I am doing my cross stitching no ideal while but it's a relief for a few hours.

I did know a woman that was born with her left arm only growing just below her elbow . But she knitted by putting the needle into the crook of her elbow and under her arm. She could do everything and had 3 daughters. She had false arms but didn't like them . As she found a way to do what she wanted her way

So pleased to hear that you are carrying on with your crafting .
I am a crafter ( with arthritis in my hands ) )and know many people who have given up because of achy hands or other problems . Like you I think they could perhaps do a bit less or do it a bit slower.
I have a friend who is almost blind but is insistent that she will not give up her art and patchwork. She uses a large magnifying glass and works slowly but gets there in the end.

It's such a lovely feeling to craft something (anything) out of redundant wool, material, old embroidery thread - will start again soon. You've given me some ideas. Thank you.

Sorry Blossoming I forgot to say how beautiful your bracelets are . Do you make for craft fairs as women of all ages you love them . And smaller ones for children.

Blossoming Wed 23-Jul-25 14:48:16

All my bracelets are given to a small local charity who can either sell them or use them for tombola prizes.

You must have great patience. Your work is lovely.

Blossoming Wed 23-Jul-25 15:02:20

Thank you 4allweknow, patience is something I have had to learn!

AngieLC Wed 23-Jul-25 15:41:05

That’s beautiful, Blossoming!

Blossoming Wed 23-Jul-25 17:10:58

Bracelet number 3 completed, that’s enough for me today!

Blossoming Wed 23-Jul-25 17:11:29

Thank you everybody for your kind words.

Blooming good for you. I love your attitude. There's usually a way to master an obstacle. There's something very calming and dare I say, therapeutic about creating. It's helped me through some dark times.

Thank you for your positive post. I used to go to a craft group, at a centre in a deprived area, where one lady only had limited use of one hand yet she made the most amazing picture using different fabrics, buttons, sequins and threads etc.

FranP Wed 23-Jul-25 19:40:27

So very well done!

As you are so artistic, have you considered painting too?

Esmay Wed 23-Jul-25 21:25:34

Well done .
Fran wrote why not try painting ? I agree with her .
