I have started this, but think it may be well beyond my capabilities… Has anyone succeeded in doing it? I have
got as far as Row 12, and ground to a halt…

Graphite

Yes, I have made it as a gift but still have the pattern.

Are you just stuck on Round 12 or saying that what you have so far isn't looking right?

Do you know how to read the charts?

It is fiddly but once you have a couple of motifs under your belt it should all become easier.

Maybe do one round at a time on several motifs so that you become familar with each round.

I agree with Graphite, in the past I've had all the tiles on the go simultaneously. So for Persian Tiles I did 16 Round 4s then 16 Round 5s etc

Hi Chardy, thank you very much - that’s interesting and makes sense. Will give it a go. Thanks again.

There's always at least one (!) round that's really awkward, and this always you to focus on sorting it out, rather than those "How did I tackle this yesterday/last week?" moments.

Thank you Woollywoman for bringing this lovely pattern to everyone's attention. It's a beauty

Working several shapes at a time also has the benefit of that pleasing moment when you can put several completed pieces together to see how it's all looking. Good if you aren't following the colour combination in the printed pattern.

Psychological, I know, but knitting socks is similar. I always work two at a time to avoid what I've heard called "second sock syndrome" - when you've finished one but can't work up the enthusiasm to start the second. It has happened to me that I have returned to a vanilla sock project after a longish break and worked the heel turn on the second sock differently to the one on the first sock! Not the end of the world but it doesn't happen now that I work two at a time.

I always knit the 2 sleeves simultaneously

I’ve really enjoyed reading this thread, fantastic help given so generously. I bought a crochet kit but gave up and just used the yarn for granny squares!

PS I DIDN’T need more yarn!!! 😂
