DH (bless him) has suggested that we invite a few friends from the village in for a lunchtime drink on New Year's Eve. Bearing in mind that I will be exhausted from our family get-together on 28th and that DD2, her husband and 2 DGDs are staying until 30th, what can anyone suggest that is really, really easy?

We used to regularly have little parties like this a few years ago but one friend died, one family moved and two split up so the socialising fell by the wayside and we'd like to try to get it going again.

Mulled wine would be better for an evening do - you can dilute it a bit more (canny Scot here) with the orange juice, but seriously as people may wish to drive, it is less alcoholic. Is it an evening or a daytime do? If daytime, I'd do Buck's Fuzz with Prosecco (waste of good champagne) because again people can drink lots and be "merry" without too many side effects.

Buy Blinis in any supermarket then put a smear of cream cheese
on them, topped with smoked salmon and some lumpfish roe that looks like caviar!
