How many dead Palestinians ....

... will it take before the United Nations/international community actually does something?

Currently over a thousand dead, including many children, and rising.

We had a few measly words from Ban Ki Moon and that's about it.

Blair is partying; Clegg is waffling-on about Russia and the world cup, and Cameron, I've no idea what he's got to say.

If a thousand Israelis had been killed, WW3 would have broken out by now. angry

Yes of course ffin but that's a much harder task. Take an example from NI - the RUC was hated and reviled by the Catholics- and with good reason . As part of the peace process, action was taken to change it - it became the PSNI and Catholics could join. Attitudes towards it then changed - not perfect but much better. I don't think it could have happened the other way round

Jess I can understand why she feels she has to resign, but would she not do more good staying on and trying to influence policy from the inside?

whitewave Tue 05-Aug-14 15:28:24

It feels very much like ethnic cleansing to me. One much stronger nation totally controls another nation, by way of freedom of movement, movement of goods etc. Ensuring the subject nation becomes poorer and poorer. Very gradually over the decades the pressure and screws are turned and the loss of life is relentless. The irony is that it is Israel. Once Palestine is dealt with, the West Bank will be next.

The Palestinians will of course resist, as they have done ever since their country was annexed by west.

It will soon be election time in the USA. what can one expect. I truly despair.
I agree with the comments expressed by whitewave.

Lilygran Tue 05-Aug-14 15:59:39

'Ethnic cleansing'? For heaven's sake! Haven't you read all the posts and the links?

GrannyTwice Tue 05-Aug-14 16:48:43

My guess would be that she's been trying fur the last month and to no avail

thatbags Tue 05-Aug-14 17:21:16

I'm glad she's resigned. I agree with Douglas Murray who is reported on Twitter as writing in The Spectator that she's "over-promoted, incapable and incompetent".

GrannyTwice Tue 05-Aug-14 17:30:08

Well and who promoted her? Yes - a man of fine judgement !

whitewave Tue 05-Aug-14 17:42:17

Gosh lilygn I have been in Cornwall and unfortunately have not had time to trawl through everything - it was just a passing thought of mine - so sorry to irritate you!!

thatbags Tue 05-Aug-14 17:45:35

I've always thought that Arabs and Jews were of the same ethnicity.

TerriBull Tue 05-Aug-14 17:52:06

I believe that both Arabs and Jews are Semitic, I guess that would make them the same ethnicity.

Galen Tue 05-Aug-14 18:13:57

Hagar and Sarah?

TriciaF Tue 05-Aug-14 18:44:28

That's right, they're step-brothers. Abraham was their father, and they've argued since then about who inherits the Holy Land.
I was once talking to a Kuwaiti about this (our eldest lives there) and he said that in the story about God ordering Abraham to sacrifice his son Genesis 22 :1 to 2 their Bible said it was Ishmael (Hagar's son) not Isaac (Sarah's son).
Ishmael was in fact Abraham's firstborn.

Galen Tue 05-Aug-14 18:46:45

Wonder where I dredged that up from? Miss Gent's scripture lessons at The Friary Lichfied must have been really well beaten into me.

thatbags Tue 05-Aug-14 19:42:23

Well I didn't know that scripture stuff but I did know they inhabit and come from the same part of the world historically, so it's a pretty easy deduction.

GrannyTwice Tue 05-Aug-14 20:01:42

Well sod the scripture stuff - it's all fairy tales anyway. What Warsi 's resignation has done is provoke an interesting debate and some politicians are now putting their heads above the parapet

Brendawymms Tue 05-Aug-14 20:36:35

Faith has importance to most cultures of the world, and a lot of people do not believe their holy texts are " all fairy tales".

GrannyTwice Tue 05-Aug-14 20:39:03

Mores the pity!

Nonu Tue 05-Aug-14 20:41:37

A VERY,VERY good post Brenda and I mean that, faith is very IMPORTANT

thatbags Tue 05-Aug-14 20:48:12

To some.

TriciaF Tue 05-Aug-14 20:49:38

Faith is very important to most Muslims, which is the point here.
And many Jews.

Nonu Tue 05-Aug-14 20:52:33

Bags

Sweetie what are you like?

xx

thatbags Tue 05-Aug-14 20:55:17

How do you know, tricia? No need to answer. Rhetorical question. One person cannot speak for "most".

thatbags Tue 05-Aug-14 20:55:39

It's not about faith. It's about politics and power.

thatbags Tue 05-Aug-14 20:59:48

Besides, they are both Abrahamic religions (it's the same god), as is Christianity. Tribal warfare, as I said earlier.
