Thanks for those suggestions.

We have most, if not all, the Julia Donaldson books but I had forgotten Meg and Mog - his mum lived those. I'd also forgotten The Tiger Who Came to Tea which we had and seems to have been borrowed by one of the others.

Yes, Meg and Mog, also ( how could I forget) the Mog books by Judith Kerr, also by her The Tiger Who Came To Tea.

PS his reception teacher was surprised when he could read the word 'cauldron' wink

GS3 at that age loved the Meg & Mog books. In particular he was fascinated by Jan Pieńkowski's colourful illustrations He also taught himself to read before he went to school by following the simple words.

My DGS is exactly the same age, and he loves them over all his other books.

Yes, anything at all by Julia McDonald ( The Gruffalo, Superworm etc.) well written and beautifully illustrated.

Our younger grandson (aged 4) shows little interest in books. He and his sister have a couple of stories every night and she will ask for stories or 'read' to herself during the day but he is too busy being physical - currently he is a Ninja Turtle jumping down stairs etc.

He has a good imagination, enjoys playing board games etc and is starting 'big school' in September. His number skills are advanced for his age (according to playgroup)

Has anyone any suggestions for books that will 'grab' him?
