Three generation short break

Could do with some inspiration. We are hoping to have a three night weekend break in the UK next year but inspiration is lacking. Six adults, three children between 3 and 13. Preferably under one roof but could split over two or I guess three properties. Either April or September into October. Concerns are to have enough bathrooms, something to keep the children occupied, for it to be comfortable but not ruinously expensive, a pub close by would be a major bonus. Have begun to look at cottages but wondered if a complex would be better. Would love to hear what has worked for you or indeed what didn't, always good to learn from others mistakes smile.

Another place that has not been mentioned and which you might enjoy is Windermere, in the Lake District. We booked a house last year for 5 people. No swimming pool. We had a lovely time because we could go on the lakes in a boat, shop in the little towns nearby, had a ride on a steam train for a Thomas the Tank Engine fan (GS), and also found a great children's play park. We also went to a motor museum which was really good, and other days we just chilled out at the house playing board games with the children. Nice and relaxing and I would recommend, especially as the scenery is beautiful around there. We only went for a week but would have loved to stay for two! Big house quite near to the lake with plenty of bathrooms/showers/toilets. Nice garden for the children to run around in too.
