I cannot say I want a Tory or labour government , neither give me hope . Corbyn and his devotees aretoo much like .Trump and his devotees, this is frightening.

mostlyharmless, does it MATTER why her voice failed, why her throat dried, why she coughed? It was a genuine few minutes where she really could not speak because of a PHYSICAL problem.

It is awful for any speaker. Been there, done that.

That is why I sympathised. We should be able to leave personalities and policies aside to agree it was awful for her at such a crucial time.

Those who are analysing why she had a cough ought to be ashamed. She is a confident woman and a good public speaker (imo) and would have had no qualms about delivering her speech. The timing of her cold was dreadful.

I thought she dealt with the idiotic "comedian" very calmly and very efficiently, taking his paper and putting it down.

As someone on a radio phone in programme remarked, had he attempted that in America, he'd have left the hall in a body-bag.

May's security was appalling. Did she need that to contend with as well?

She's been badly let down by so many. Call me soft, sentimental, daft, whatever, but I was happy for her that her husband was waiting for her in the wings with a hug. I'd have liked that sort of support too after such a difficult time.

Such rubbish being spouted on here about May ‘not having a cold’ ( are you all psychics?) When you have a sore throat, and I have one right now, I can chat with friends on the phone but after a while the voice starts to crack and I cough.

She has always tended to sip water during interviews. I feel sorry for her as I would a wounded animal, especially as a member of a pack that is known to turn on it's wounded in a pretty evil way. Then again, she chose to join the pack; wasn't born into it. However, the lapse of security immediately made me think of how she has cut police numbers over the years thereby causing security problems.Also wondered if the security at the conference was arranged by the company her husband has links with?

I am discounting Iam64 and Anniebach and Anya as well as a few others on GN, Labour supporters who are fair with their criticisms.Criticise the politics and policies by all means, have a chuckle at some outfits that politicians wear, but have a bit of humanity for other things.That goes for what we say about ALL politicians.

She was fine with the speech in Florence, and at other venues btw. She has no trouble with public speaking.

I'm highly amused when the right wing start pontificating about how horrible and mean the centre left are when you read the posts from you, annie and others on this thread. I'm left of centre and have said nothing about TMs clothes or cough. I think the security breach was appalling and I felt sympathy for the cough. I also wish she hadn't coughed so we could have concentrated on what she said. I'm puzzled about the bracelet though - I wouldn't wear jewellery with depictions of someone far right on it. Or far left or any political figure for that matter.

annie, did you see this about JRM? Someone shouted right into his face that he should just "Fuck right off and die!" (paraphrased). All is well within the Labour party is it?

We all know Labour politicians who a year ago - just twelve short months ago, who were openly against Corbyn and Momentum.

Momentum is trying to have moderate Labour MPs deselected! There are HUGE divisions within the Labour party.

Now, those Labour MPs who could openly stab Corbyn in the chest last year because he was being harangued by the press and public opinon are having to quietly stab him in the back after his upsurge in popularity following May's ill-timed election. Perhaps they are all self-serving hypocrites? The older I get the more I think that of politicians - of any political persuasion.

Let's not pretend the knives are reserved for May. Corbyn has his enemies on the back benches too.

I am defending the right to free speech. You want to criticise Annie over her use of the word 'swarm' when I think it's been used inoffensively and appropriately.

You have decided it has negative connotations when it merely means a group which gather and descend...as in a swarm of wasps or bees. Nice friendly bees swarm, don't they?

The politics forum does have groups who collect to back each other, does it not? One group tends to swarm more...(they have built a nest in the forum rafters I think) the minute anything contentious is mentioned, and that will have been noticed by all who read or comment here.

There is another swarm...who tend to buzz around outside most of the time but pop in to make their presence noticed every now and then.

I see nothing offensive whatsoever in referring to a group by using a collective noun. That you try to pull someone up by making the word 'offensive' says a lot about your sensibilities and the way in which you want to shut people up. That's YOUR agenda.

The depictions on the bracelet are by her and of her. I'm fully aware also of her political views and very critical of her support for Stalin.

Well there's a pretty good imitation of a rather nasty tight wing swarm going on on this thread now isn't there. For whatever reason you didn't get the glorious leaders resounding conference speech you wanted and are feeling a bit miffed. Get over it, we all know she'll carry on limping on until they can decide on someone fit to replace her and what a choice they've got. The cough has probably bought her a bit more time that's all .

Well day6 if you had read my post properly you would see I clearly did say I felt sorry for Theresa May during and after her speech.
I was merely pointing out that her coughing fits came AFTER the P45 prank so could be considered a nervous reaction.
A horrible position to be in during a high profile speech and very unlucky.
However, I could list many, many things that she has done that could be criticised (lies, promises not kept, bribing DUP, calling an ill-judged election which cost the country millions) and she is a very weak PM.
She is too weak to command the respect of the EU over Brexit negotiations.

Is a member of the Labour party not allowed to think along different lines, to voice concerns at the way the party has turned into one controlled by the militant far left, and one that has a leader who is openly Marxist?

It SHOULD concern all those who are interested in the way the UK is governed...every single one of us!

The Labour party is in disarray. It has been divided and the situation has split the party. The voices of moderate members have been drowned out. Annie is not alone in feeling disenfranchised and concerned.

It does not mean she has switched allegiance. I think it illustrates to all of us the way in which a huge swing to the far left has left so many Labour voters perturbed and wanting a party dominated by working class concerns not the liberal middle classes who are pushing their own revolutionary agenda from their Islington or Tuscan strongholds or offices in academia's ivory towers. They have recruited the young, fervent and unthinking with promises they can not deliver. It's quite criminal imo.

That is not a Labour party many of us recognise, one which I and my family, from impoverished working class roots, supported.
