Do vegans wear wool?

Well, just that, really. I know that (most) don't wear leather shoes, obviously you can only get leather from a dead animal (ooh, just thought, they could have garments made from snakeskin, providing it had been shed/sloughed) smile

But what about wool?

Many vegans do know about the ethics of clothing.
www.ethicalconsumer.org
is the place to go to find out about how ethical your clothes are.

Colman's moving out of Norwich, for those who don't like all those fields of mustard.

This just came up on my Facebook News Feed and I thought it may add to the discussion....

To lighten the discussion for a moment, anybody who watched the ALDI Christmas advert for the last two years knows carrots can talk! Christmas 2017 saw Kevin the Carrot trying to save Katie the Carrot, but she ends up saving him! They've got three children now - Chantenay, Baby Carrot and Jasper! tchgrin

Watch the Kevin and Katie Romance

As you were tchwink

Thanks for that, Foxygran. He's so right.

Jalima1108 Thu 04-Jan-18 17:04:03

Oh dear, I just took Kevin and Katie out of the fridge and was going to chop them up for dinner.
I'm worried now what will happen to Chantenay, Baby and Jasper

hmm

Jalima1108 Thu 04-Jan-18 17:08:12

That's getting ridiculous now, suedonim
I am assuming they were happy to take pain relief prescribed for them, which could possibly have been tested on animals during clinical trials.

As for wellies - they are man-made too.
I still have a vision of a clog maker sitting carving clogs, and I understand they can be very comfy.

Jalima1108 Thu 04-Jan-18 17:13:21

And I think most fleeces come from recycled plastic
I think I asked on another thread what happens when garments, garden furniture etc etc come to the end of their useful life - does anyone put a fleece in with the plastic to be recycled - what does one do with them?

Jalima1108 Thu 04-Jan-18 17:13:54

sorry, garments, garden furniture etc made from recycled plastic

Jalima1108 Thu 04-Jan-18 17:17:15

OldMeg because fleeces vary so much in quality I think only certain ones can be used for clothing, others for items such as carpets - but I agree with you; why can't the rest of the fleeces which may not be suitable for clothing, furnishings etc be used for insulation in homes, making duvets, etc. Why are duvets made from sheep's wool so expensive?

WilmaKnickersfit Thu 04-Jan-18 17:17:22

Just want to apologise to Foxygran for the timing of my last post.

Jalima1108 Thu 04-Jan-18 17:21:48

I presume you've seen the news about the restaurant in Shropshire?
Yes! I thought I'd posted a link to that but it must have been on another thread.

shock

durhamjen Thu 04-Jan-18 17:22:05

Okay, Jalima, what do you suggest vegans wear on their feet?
I suggested that suedonim was getting ridiculous when she said about a vegan wanting to have her baby in a hospital bed.
How dare they? Vegans taking up beds that should be left for meat eaters.

WilmaKnickersfit Thu 04-Jan-18 17:25:41

Jalima ever felt you've been a bit of a smart @rse? Sorry, about that. Carrots are one of my favourite vegetables. blush

MissAdventure Thu 04-Jan-18 17:27:49

Maybe vegans should wear these?

Jalima1108 Thu 04-Jan-18 17:31:13

Okay, Jalima, what do you suggest vegans wear on their feet?
I am assuming that you are not trying to be confrontational with that post smile

I can't suggest anything really djen that's why I am asking; did you read the original post about the vegan couple who will not wear anything man-made either?

I was curious about what they wear on their feet if not shoes made by man (or woman) especially in a chilly part of the world, as vegan shoes must have been made using some type of a process by man (or woman).

Aepgirl Thu 04-Jan-18 17:31:19

If we were all vegetarians or vegans there would be no animals in fields. Farmers don't keep animals just to make the countryside look nice. Where would our children and grandchildren get to know about animals - zoos are taboo too now!

Jalima1108 Thu 04-Jan-18 17:35:18

Sorry Wilma I was trying to answer in the same vein, as I had just taken out a couple of carrots to cook along with broccoli and peas.

SueDonim Thu 04-Jan-18 17:36:29

My point was that this couple eschew manmade materials but put aside their principles when having their baby.

Chewbacca Thu 04-Jan-18 17:38:24

How dare they? Vegans taking up beds that should be left for meat eaters.

Has anyone actually suggested anything of the kind? Or is this just a reactionary rhetorical question?

Jalima1108 Thu 04-Jan-18 17:39:11

sorry to ask again about their shoes SueDonim - I am just really curious.
I am not criticising anyone's choices, just interested as we have vegetarians in the family but no vegans; I would not want any vegans to start feeling defensive.

SueDonim Thu 04-Jan-18 17:41:50

Jalima wrt the manmade thing, what I meant is that the couple I'm aware of won't use anything not natural, rather than not man-made. Obviously even clothes made from cotton are made by (wo)man! Btw, when we lived in Africa, local people wore footwear made from old tyres, which I assume are still made from rubber.

I've got this horrible flu so sorry for being muddle-headed!

SueDonim Thu 04-Jan-18 17:43:37

Oh, x-posted, Jalima. I honestly don't know what they wear on their feet. As I say, it's the daughter of a friend of a friend so not anyone I know personally.

Jalima1108 Thu 04-Jan-18 17:46:17

Ah, so they probably wear manufactured shoes which would be waterproof!
Thanks SueDonim, I had visions of them walking barefoot in the snow or carving wooden clogs (which, of course, I can remember people wearing when I was young!).

SueDonim Thu 04-Jan-18 17:51:20

I guess so, Jalima! It's an intriguing train of thought, to work out how you'd replace everything in your life with natural, non-animal products.
