Why do men leave the seat up & other annoying habits?

We've got a soft-closing lid, but even then, my husband and son can't be bothered to use it. Why do they use the last bit of toilet roll and leave the cardboard tube there, but not bother to get a new toilet roll out? They are about 1 foot away from the toilet in my house!

Nanny27 , maybe you could fit a door closer to your toilet door?

I tend to leave the seat down because of hygiene considerations and the cat(s) who could fall in and not because of my wife who doesn't consider me normally needing it up. What's the big deal about leaving the seat up or down anyway, it's no big deal.

As to spending a long time on the loo, it can be a place for quiet contemplation though this is annoying if you are desperate to go and cannot get in in time. The only valid excuse is constipation anything else is selfish when there is a queue.

At home we are lucky enough to have both downstairs and upstairs loo's so the problem of queuing rather happens.

No trouble at our house with loo seats. My husband once heard that, if you leave the lid up,, all your money goes down the drain (ancient Chinese proverb)!

Where I was dragged up we called it "spending a penny!"
That was pre-metric, of course, but those "disgusting" public toilets everyone is ranting about must cost more New Pence to get in these days!
Or do you have to swipe your credit card? And what would your receipt show as "items"?

I can't get exercised about this. I was brought up in a mixed family (2m, 2f) and if the seat wasn't where you wanted it, you opened or shut it. You're going to wash your hands anyway, so no big deal. Same when I married my husband, it simply wasn't an issue.

What does puzzle me is when I go to a public, ladies' loo and find the seat up. Why would a woman do that?

I'd only had 3 Shiraz too! Spicy beef stroganoff, sliced peaches/ice cream ; very yummy and just the job for a winter's eve.

Class 2018 appears to have done "spitting" to death; there was a brief episode on nose-picking and now into toilet malpractices. Phew!
I can see "farting" and "belching" as being next on the agenda.
I took time off to check the former on Google for potential man-traps. Blimey! 20 mil. "hits" and of course countless "jokes" as you can imagine, or not, depending on your sense of humour.
Having been led off the straight and narrow I'm now struggling to regain my composure!

Good luck with the 'farting' 'belching' threads Ruf, some of them on here are far too gentile and well-brought up to enter into such nasty discussions, but it seems ok to talk about toilets and pee on seats without a barrage of abuse so I think we've got away with it!

Keep up with the fun posts, you're a breathe of fresh air, we don't all want to whinge and moan. (No doubt I'll get a slating for saying that now but hey flamin ho)

I was lucky in having had a husband who put the seat and the lid down. He was worried a cat might climb in and drown lol.
I do like the lid down too as the water tends to spray when the toilet is flushed.

I was complaining to my GS about him wetting the seat. I later overheard my OH having a chat with him along the lines of 'a gentleman lifts up the seat, has a wee and then puts the seat down again'. I thought that was nice but unfortunately it didn't seem to have much effect.

Sassenach 512. You came out of left-field, unexpectedly. Thanks for your moral (or should that be immoral?) support.
I opened up my PC this evening expecting that barrage to come flooding out, but nowt!
In fact someone has even dared to mention the unmentionable "P" word; something I wouldn't have had the balls to add to my list. (virtual of course!)
However I must confess my original post wasn't seriously recommending adding more bodily functions,to keep the debate moving, but more along the lines of reverse psychology in that shock/horror would ensue at the thought of yet more to come. Not so far, apparently!
You say "some of them are etc. . but I'd say all who came to my recent virtual birthday party are genteel (I can't say gentile, not knowing them personally!), and mostly well behaved as confirmed by CCTV footage.
I'm still basking in the afterglow of that party and it's a welcome warm feeling right now I can tell you! Talk about Christmas in July! It's absolutely freezing out there. Cold enough to freeze one's balls off, as they say; now I'm wandering off the straight and narrow again.
