During my fairly short time on here, there have been quite a few requests for a 'like' button and I wonder, apart from the obvious time saved in typing a proper endorsement of the views posted, what the positives would be.
Anonymity would mean that the poster would not know whose views coincided with theirs, thus, the ability to give a response would be lost.
Does anyone have other ideas as to the positive aspects of GNHQ facilitating the use of such a button?

GG ??

If we’re educated and rational then we can post to say we like another post and why and not indulge in playground antics about who has got more likes than someone else and then some posters believing that more likes validates the content of the post in some peculiar way

Thanks Anja grin
You just confirmed my theory.

I think Gransnet is fine as it is. No 'like' required and if you preview your posts you shouldn't need to edit them.

Good post maryeliza, I like it

grin

Yes, I must preview more often merlogran

Glad to know GG ??

GNHQ is getting better but they do tend to treat us like semi-demented inhabitants of an Old People’s Home...

ANJA I’m still smiling at this, some days that is exactly how I feel and there is only DH and me living here. grin

??*Merlotgran*. ?? I also wondered why we need an ‘edit button’, when we already have the ‘preview’ option.
I try to always use it, but somtimes press ‘post’ before checking whether or not I have had fat finger syndrome. ?

merlotgran Thu 24-Jan-19 13:45:59

The only problem I have with the Preview option is sometimes I forget I haven't posted a comment, only previewed it.

Lost forever. sad

Jalima1108 Thu 24-Jan-19 13:54:25

I sometimes think I am previewing, but there is the post - posted for all to see complete with typos

merlotgran Thu 24-Jan-19 14:02:07

Jalima. You'd think we'd get the hang of it by now. grin

muffinthemoo Thu 24-Jan-19 14:02:43

Give us an eyeroll emoji!!

Jalima1108 Thu 24-Jan-19 14:13:16

where do posters get all these emojis/emoticons, whatever they're called, from?

bad grammar there btw - did you notice?

GabriellaG54 Thu 24-Jan-19 16:06:22

without resorting to words I might regret
In other words, anonymously endorsing opposing views.
Some individuals are blockheads.

Would it mean that as well as getting lots of posts from people who don't understand the acronyms/abbreviations and haven't noticed that there is a list of them we would also get posts from people who don't understand how to use a "like" or "don't like" button?

Jalima1108 Thu 24-Jan-19 18:23:28

I know about our own acronyms but people use ones from elsewhere - what a lot of clever clogs!

MrsJamJam Thu 24-Jan-19 19:55:24

I sometimes don't get any reaction within a post about something I have posted. That doesn't make me feel invisible. And I certainly don't need likes to make me feel validated. Mind you, many years ago in a disagreement with my own grandmother she told me I was a hard woman ! After some thought I decided to regard it as a compliment to my toughness in adversity wink

Marmight Thu 24-Jan-19 20:02:56

No to like button
No to edit button. We already have 'preview'

GabriellaG54 Thu 24-Jan-19 21:14:44

Jalima1108
They're on your mobile (emojis) above the numbers on the keyboard. Just use instead of/as well as GN ones.

Jalima1108 Thu 24-Jan-19 23:57:48

Ah, that explains it, Gabriella
I don't use my mobile for GN
