Hello all, usual good wishes!

Now, this isn't exactly an argument, but Mr P and I have been discussing this and cannot agree, so we are asking you!

Who would you say was the greater/more important/made the greatest contribution of these two, Leonardo da Vinci or Albert Einstein?

GrannyGravy13 Fri 03-May-19 20:09:49

I think de Vinci had more vision Albert Einstein managed to get more acknowledgement.

I am for de Vinci!!

kittylester Fri 03-May-19 20:10:23

Crumbs, on a Friday night - that's too much for my poor brain.

If I have to choose - da Vinci!

mcem Fri 03-May-19 20:15:05

Da Vinci for me. Brilliant engineer I know but his art trumps Einstein's science. Any accusations of frivolity duly accepted!

crazyH Fri 03-May-19 20:20:05

Einstein

phoenix Fri 03-May-19 20:28:09

Hooray, da Vinci leads!

I know he was reputed to be a bit odd, especially with regard to the acquisition of bodies confused but for me he was the ultimate, beyond all doubt, polymath of all time!

annodomini Fri 03-May-19 20:33:35

Da Vinci.

janeainsworth Fri 03-May-19 20:37:44

Einstein

MawBroonsback Fri 03-May-19 20:37:59

Oh Leonardo, without question.

hugshelp Fri 03-May-19 20:41:06

Da vinci.

MawBroonsback Fri 03-May-19 20:45:51

AIBU - he is known as Leonardo Like we say “Michelangelo”.
Nobody talks of “The daVinci Cartoon” do they?
The forthcoming exhibitions are advertised as “Leonardo” - not da Vinci.
It’s just that stupid Dan Brown who started it.

phoenix Fri 03-May-19 20:45:53

Thanks to those who have taken time to respond.

Please may I ask those who have said Einstein, what made you decide that?

Mr P went for Einstein, and has put forward his reason, but would be interested to hear others reasons for their choice.

MawBroonsback Fri 03-May-19 20:49:13

Leonardo di ser Piero da Vinci, more commonly Leonardo da Vinci or simply Leonardo, was an Italian polymath of the Renaissance whose areas of interest included invention, drawing, painting, sculpting... Wikipedia

So not just me, then

Deedaa Fri 03-May-19 20:52:07

I think mentally they must have been about equal, but Leonardo's artistic talent just gives him the edge.

Luckygirl Fri 03-May-19 20:55:09

I'm with you phoenix - he was an all-round genius, whereas Einstein was more of a one-trick-pony.

Only on gransnet could Einstein be dismissed thus!!! grin

Bathsheba Fri 03-May-19 20:57:29

Oh Leonardo for sure. Einstein was undoubtedly a genius, a scientist par excellence, but he was a bit of a one trick pony, whereas Leonardo da Vinci was the ultimate all rounder wink

Bathsheba Fri 03-May-19 20:58:00

Haha, Luckygirl great minds and all that....

phoenix Fri 03-May-19 21:18:13

Maw (etc!) humble apologies if I have transgressed in the naming of "you know who" blush

He's still my absolute hero, and if I could bring one person from the past back to life, it would be him!

Think about the things he designed when engines weren't even invented, just imagine what he could come up with now!

MawBroonsback Fri 03-May-19 21:22:09

Did you see Fiona Bruce’s programme on him last night?
Funnily enough, his art was the talent he rated least of all!

Urmstongran Fri 03-May-19 21:54:09

I’m way too uneducated to join in this discussion!
😧

On a Friday night my husband and I discuss the merits of the local bars .... and whether a pizza trumps pasta!

🍕🍷🍺

fairisle Fri 03-May-19 22:02:13

Einstein

Jane10 Fri 03-May-19 22:04:20

This argument is unsettleable! It's comparing two such different skill sets. We're lucky we had them both.

callgirl1 Fri 03-May-19 22:14:41

I`ve never been one for science, art trumps it every time, so Leonardo for me.

Izabella Fri 03-May-19 23:35:55

A difficult one. Leonardo was a polymath so had a broader skill set and was able to apply himself to a wide range of subjects. Leonard was a visionary even in science, but did not have technology or the later development of science to underpin his visions. Einstein was able to apply his work living in a later time to a greater degree.

I think they were equals in their own time(s). We can't really judge who was greater from our 21st century standpoint imho. Having said that if I had a choice of which one I would like to 'meet' then Leonardo would win every time.

Einstein - much better hair 😜 (secondary school gal here!)
