Renewing Driving Licence

Renewed mine again this year, and it's completely free. However, I don't drive any more and didn't need to renew, but a driving licence is such a good form of ID.

There are similar websites for passport renewal that charge a 'admin' fee as well as the fee for the new passport. Always check for the .gov.uk for a genuine site

Just fill in the form and send it off. If no fee is mentioned on the form, don't bother with one.

These scam sites exist for many other things too. For example, getting a visa. Look carefully at the website address.

Thanks folks just the info I wanted. ?

Anno - the photo licences expire. A lot of people get caught out. If you have the "old" paper sort they don't expire until you are 70.

Mine has been renewed twice and is coming up for the third time. No money was involved and the whole thing is quite painless. Not sure about your son's situation, momb. I am puzzled that his licence had expired two years ago, because, in my experience, driving licences don't expire.

My son renewed his lately. It expired 2 years ago. He was charged £14. Is this correct for a 30 odd year old?

Just got the form yesterday - automatically from DVLA. I turn 70 in October. I did not ask for it they sent it . It's definitely free but need a passport sized photo. Simply wait till you get the form.

This is the site:

www.gov.uk/renew-driving-licence-at-70

Camelotclub Sat 20-Jul-19 10:48:18

The site must have gov.uk in it.

All others are imposters.

I've got mine here, ready to do. It's definitely free.
Go to the website which it says, the gov one.

Thank you for posting this information, Bordergirl & others. I'll be 70 next year and this is a very useful reminder - especially about the "scam" sites out there.

You have arrived at a scam website please do not use it the renewed licience is totally free we did it for OH 2 yrs ago.

Doodle Fri 19-Jul-19 12:49:59

Yes me too. You’re on a scam website if there is any fee involved.

Greenfinch Fri 19-Jul-19 12:47:24

Same as the others.Mine came very quickly and there was no fee.

Charleygirl5 Fri 19-Jul-19 12:23:44

Mine was also renewed within a few days. It is a scam, please do not pay the money.

M0nica Fri 19-Jul-19 12:21:40

Yes, you have got one of those sites that masquerade as a DVLA site and then charge.

Either type the correct web address into your computer from the DVLA letter or click on te link above. DH and I have both renewed our licences online in the last month through the official website and did not pay a penny.

Pantglas1 Fri 19-Jul-19 11:49:11

Same here J52 except it was four days!

J52 Fri 19-Jul-19 11:47:48

DH has done it on line. No fee, straight forward and they even downloaded the photo from his passport, so no need to have a new photo taken.
The new licence came within the week, all you do then is cut the old one up and send it back.

I have just had a Driving licence renewal application for 70+ form sent through from the DVLA.

DH tells me there is no fee and it says on the front page of the form 'we do not charge a fee' but when I go online it says the fee is £57.

Anyone with knowledge of this situation ?
