What should I do with these potatoes?

Hello all, could do with some advice!

Last night I prepared some new potatoes, (well, I cut them into the right size and put them in a pan of lightly salted cold water blush) for various reasons, they didn't get cooked.

They are still in a pan (with lid on) on the hob, and won't get used tonight either.

I really don't want to waste them, and they won't go with tomorrows lasagne!

Any suggestions?

Do kids still have spud guns? Maybe your GCs would welcome them as ammo? grin

The OP was asking about new potatos. Well, boil them , strain them. Meanwhile heat a couple of tbsps of oil. When hot, drop a pinch of cumminseed (not powder), a teeny bit of chilli powder and teeny amount of garlic paste (optional) and salt. Serve with steak, chicken or fish.

My neighbours given a good few pounds of cooking apples . I will peel them, stew them and eat it with custard. No apple pie for me.

Bradfordlass2 when we only ate things that were ‘in season’ the first new potatoes of the year were such a treat. What a shame that you can’t get them in NZ. I have a similar problem in Australia when my DD asks for home-made apple pie. It’s impossible to buy any kind of baking apples over there, let alone Bramleys. How can you bake a decent pie using eating apples?

Do you want to hear something unbearably sad?

Since I came back to New Zealand I have never seen, let alone been able to buy, proper new potatoes. They don't seem to exist.

Kiwis don't know what they are missing.

But I do. sad

My daughter insists that avocado is ‘smashed’ and new potatoes are ‘crushed’..... too many cookery programmes and not enough cooking methinks!

Purpledaffodil Mon 05-Aug-19 18:54:17

Only yesterday I made crushed new potatoes for the first time! Boiled until tender with mint, drained, then crushed with fork gently and a good glug of olive oil. Tasted great and could be put in fridge and microwaved in a couple of days. But not covered in cling film obviously ?

Indeed Callistemon but crushed are more squashed than mashed - rather like mashed avocado is now described as smashed! hmm

Callistemon Mon 05-Aug-19 18:35:16

Riverwalk apparently "crushed new potatoes" are very in at the moment.
Not that I have crushed any myself.

Callistemon Mon 05-Aug-19 18:34:33

they are nice sautéed though!!
Or cooked and dressed in a garlicky olive oil/nice vinegar.

I did read the OP smile

Use them to pelt those who didn't read the OP properly grin

New potatoes don't make good mash and are a bit small for wedges!

M0nica Mon 05-Aug-19 17:14:01

Cook and freeze them.

lemongrove Mon 05-Aug-19 17:13:21

BradfordLass haha, all very practical suggestions.?

Cook them now then when ready to use, cut into bite size pieces and sprinkle extra virgin olive oil, sea salt, and black pepper. Toss well to coat with the oil and cook in oven on about 170. They will brown and taste delicious.

I'm hungry now...yummy..fried egg and new pots. Lovely xxx

willa45 Mon 05-Aug-19 15:35:24

Slice them in wedges, cook them halfway and drain. Mix with enough salt/pepper, milk, grated cheese and butter to make a casserole. Add the cheese mix to the potatoes and blend well. Drop the entire mixture into a well oiled baking pan. Cover with plastic wrap and then tinfoil. Pop in the freezer until ready to use. Add a crumb topping (optional) and bake at 350F for about an hour.

WildRoses Mon 05-Aug-19 15:09:09

Potato wedges. Little bit of seasoning, little bit of oil, bung them in the oven.

HazelG Mon 05-Aug-19 14:49:01

Cook and freeze for another day.

jaylucy Mon 05-Aug-19 12:03:52

Boil them and either make potato salad, saute them or freeze them either as they are or mash and freeze

This is where I really want a 'like' button wink

inishowen Mon 05-Aug-19 11:32:46

I would make potato salad. Add some chopped spring onions and mayo.

Blinko Mon 05-Aug-19 10:19:09

Sorry, I was thinking of my five boxes.

Blinko Mon 05-Aug-19 10:13:06

You could always wrap em in that cling film...
