Recycling coffee pods

DH empties ours and collects the grounds in a tub to use on the flower beds, Then rinses out the pods and puts in the recycling bin. He says by doing it every few days it’s not too much of a chore.

Intrigued by the idea of jewellery made from coffee pods I checked out google images, and discovered it is possible to buy a Pod Star Reusable Stainless Steel Coffee Pod to fit Nespresso machines. It seems they are available for other machines too.

Ginny you and Mary are opening up my mind to a whole new world of alternative pod use ?

Forgot to say that they had emptied the coffee grounds and flattened the pods.

I saw a really nice fly screen made from pods hanging over a doorway in Portugal. It had long lines of colours in stripes, but I don't know how they fixed them together.

Nespresso provide labels and recycling bags - you either take them to a Click + Collect shop or a driver picks them up from outside your door. Service is free.

Check Collect+ online. Lots of convenience stores accept the capsules to recycle, think you have to get a label with a barcode online.

As an aside, I've tried other brands of capsules sold in supermarkets but have to admit going back to Nespresso.

Trust you Mary to have a pod necklace. No doubt you have corks hanging from your hats too ? I must admit I have a very nice 1940s necklace made of Bakelite with a Canada Goose type bird hanging on it, beat that. ?

If you order Nespresso on line they will collect your used pods when they deliver the new ones.

We ask for a few recycling bags when we are in store and wait until we have a few full ones before taking them back as we also live about 4 miles from the Nespresso shop.

We recycle ours to a house in our village. When the lady has a boot full she takes it to our local rescue recycling point.

you can but you have to empty them first- that means cutting the top with a sharp knife and emptying in food/compost bin.

Does anyone know why you can’t recycle them in your own bin as you would with an aluminum drinks can.

There are various drop off points at shops nearby and I drop them off when the bag is full and I’m heading in that direction.

When I was in Berlin a few years ago, I bought a necklace at a craft fair, made from recycled pods.

You can buy refillable capsules- wonderful.

I have a Tassimo and although they do a recycling scheme it's through volunteers and you have to get the used pods to their house. There isn't one near me so unfortunately they go in the bin. I would keep them in a specific bin with a tight lid on and take them as a batch when you go to town. At least that way you are doing your bit.
